How Sideways is TOO Sideways? Testing My K-Swap AE86 Touring Car at Gingerman!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With my DREAM AE86 updated and repaired, we hit the track hoping for some precious mileage. The car drove well, handled abuse from me just fine, but we are still very, very inexperienced compared to half the grid. Lots to learn, lots to improve on. We'll keep trying!

What I've learned from this video, is you turn left to go right.

On another note, I'd try a slightly reverse rake setup and slowly adjust the rear up until you get the perfect balance. It should help with cutting out a lot of that oversteer. You might understeer at first, but it should let you throttle more, which I think will suit that car better with the added performance.

@@deesautohouse367 I don't think rake should be a primary tool in tuning car balance because you're not moving much weight around by adjusting it. Personally, my rake is just set to be angled forward a bit based on maximizing downforce (and counteract pitching at high speeds when running a rear wing). I think that changing front/rear roll stiffness is much better for tuning mechanical grip balance. So to make the rear end grip better, a stiffer front swaybar/springs would be good, or a softer rear.

@@frederickschulze8014 Can't argue with your ideas either. I'm just speaking form my experience. I found that changing the rake did help me with being able to accelerate out of the corners more. As we know, there is probably handful of ways to correct it.

Agree, the fastest race cars are effortless to drive, like the Supra and the M2. But this car is not really about being the fastest. It’s about the experience, the raw unassisted driving. It takes effort, finesse, and a lot of mental capacity. This is exactly what I wanted, and one that can train me to be even better as a driver!

Once the tire starts slipping, you have to reduce the input below normal threshold levels to regain grip, which is why sliding costs you time and grip. Dancing at the threshold level is what makes a driver next level, also, I told you about the radiator, we can improve it's performance aerodynamically, and help the aero of the car in one go.
