    Instead of seeing what this offseason has been we spend time trying to make the moves sound better than they are....these moves were just outright irrelevant moves. And in many ways a wasted off season. I don't get it. Players that were 4th line and scratch players who all of a sudden are going to become something more? He did the same in Toronto, spent the first couple of years getting picks, prospects and expiring contracts......great....wasted 2 years...then did nothing with those acquisitions......I don't mean to be insulting but I think people in Pittsburgh are delusional about Dubas and the moves.

    People in Pittsburgh celebrate Dubas' moves and I don't get it. I lived in Toronto, saw first hand what he did there. And he is doing the carbon copy here.....he came into Toronto, got a ton of picks and prospects, people in Toronto were excited...he then made no good moves with them....over the course of his time there he was unable to build a bottom 6, unable to build a bottom 4 d, and made horrible assessment of goalies. Gave out too much money and term on his contracts......The team is not better today than it was last year....look at the Capitals, look at Nashville, in 2 years these teams made shrewd moves and are 'contenders' again. Dubas hasn't won a decision in a long time (I think Ryan O'Reilly is the only won in Toronto).....Dubas' MO is clear, and one is take flyers on a bunch of scratched D, and Scratched or 4th line forwards from other teams in hopes that they all of a sudden do amazing.....it never worked in Toronto and it hasn't worked in Toronto. Former players and execs are shaking their head at Dubas in Pittsburgh, but everyone in Pittsburgh think he is doing some good job or something.....he's an average GM given he reigns of this organization and Sid's last years, what a waste. Pittsburgh was a perpetual talking point, Pittsburgh has become irrelevant in the league now...and they didn't need to be with Sid here.

  • @Magicalmetric

    He was new and young in Toronto, he did a lot of great things that other GMs wouldn't think of doing but he also made mistakes and I would imagine learned a great deal from the experience. I think Shanny also may have put a few spanners in plans that Kyle had and forced his hand on a few things. This time it's all Kyle. Time will tell if he shits the bed again. I'm optimistic.

  • @MarkFields-vb6zc

    That may be true. Let’s hope he’s learned. Except if you look at what he did in Toronto. He is doing the exact same thing. So so far it doesn’t appear like he has learned. Every former player or executive or coach who is commenting on Pittsburgh are shaking their heads, and frustrated for Sid. I feel the same.

    💯. I didn’t like us bringing in Dubas. He’s never done anything that I was impressed with. At this point, he is not quite, but not very far from a younger version of Hextall. I know people will point to the fact that he got rid of all of those bad contracts in exchange for Erik Karlsson. Kind of impressive, but the sharks were also desperate to dump that contract. And I just didn’t see a need for a $10 million defenseman who doesn’t play defense. I mean Letang is a cheaper version. he doesn’t know how to identify good solid bottom 6 forwards. I know people will also praise him for getting rid of Riley Smith contract, which is great but I don’t know. Is that him being a genius or is that just Chris Drury being stupid?

    This guy Dubas is brutal. I feel bad for Sid, he's going to waste the last years of his career. For picks and prospects that he has shown no ability to turn into a team. He did the same in Toronto, with top 2 lines that was as good as any in the NHL and couldn't build a bottom 6, couldn't get bottom 4 Dmen and poorly assessed goalies. Kind of funny but this move, more than any other, has finally made me realize we're rebuilding. A 2027 second and retaining 25% of contract, and no player to take the place of Reilly Smith. Yeah he had a bad year but still. Seems like Kyle is very focused on the future and not so much the present. Probably for the best but that's a little rough. And i'm not sure about this whole thing where Kyle signs everyone and their mother, to a 1- year deal, to see if any of them fit with the team. It's like a huge quantity over quality decision.

  • @zeusthedrumlord547
    @zeusthedrumlord5474 күн бұрын

    There’s still a lot of offseason and cap space left. The move that sends smith out doesn’t have to be the same move that brings in his replacement. The league doesn’t have to work in the way that you either rebuild or go all in and no in between. Some moves are for the future, some are for now. The bruins, for example, have been doing that for years. I think it’s just that lately most of the moves feel like future moves because Rutherford and hextall were so negligent with that aspect of moves. They were pedal to the metal always. And reckless in hextall’s case. I think Dubas realized that going forward you need to refill the cupboard at least a little. If this team is in a playoff spot at the deadline I’d be surprised if he refused to send out a first to load up like we’d hope.

  • @TylerEL
    @TylerEL4 күн бұрын

    @@zeusthedrumlord547 I'd agree with most of what you said except for having a lot of cap space left. We are bottom 10 in cap-space, its quite low. And like i said, i don't like Dubas' penchant for signing everyone and their mother to 1 year contracts, throwing things against a wall and hoping something sticks. I'm not a Dubas hater, but i think his analytics make him want to grab every player that is analytics tell him is worth it, based on cap-hit against projected production or whatever formula he has going on there.

    I don't know Dubas' plan, is he trying to get better today or not? Because Eller is better option than Hayes, Smith is also better option than Hayes. Hayes has gotten softer as he has gotten older. Acciari brings more to the PK than Hayes.....if this move was just to get a 2nd rounder. Then for the sake of a draft pick your team is worse off today. I've commented before, but I have never liked the way Dubas builds a team, just a lack of ability to build a bottom 6 in a manner that actually works..Toronto with all its top end talent had a horrible bottom 6, and it wasn't because Dubas didn't make moves...he just never made the right one.
