LoopLinks

For me being an DIYer is not about building something new, but reusing something OLD.
This channel is a place to show off how you can reuse e-waste that is broken or damaged and make it better. This can also mean modifying it for other useful purposes.

    This is such a nice, clean version. It appears that you’ve customized some of the parts adding the Rook logo and name. Are you planning on releasing the .STLs for those?

    Thanks. I made one customised part i.e. bottom cover plate for covering the electronics and for mounting the z end stop. If you want I can share the file in the video description.

    Hey, LoopLinks, what are your thoughts on this printer vs like the Creality K1 or Bambu P1 series? Which in your opinion is the best value and best overall. Also, can this printer print pla with the door and lid closed? Like doesn’t it have some filters on the back? Thanks.

  • @LoopLinks

    Hi, I can't say which one will be the best overall because I haven't used the other two printers. However, 5M Pro has been a consistent printer. I printed Rook MK1 parts in PLA and PETG, and they all came out perfectly. I have had no problems with it so far. Yes, it can print PLA with the door closed since it features a fan in the back for external circulation, which draws new air from outside the chamber and carries filtered internal air outside the printer. The only thing which I don't like is that it doesn't support live camera view in Orca when I last checked.

    Rooks are good project printers for learning how a printer really works and getting hands on. This was an amazing build video, just my worry if I build one myself is that I’m just gonna say “okay that was fun,” print a few things on it then put it on a shelf and never use it again. It doesn’t really have that same performance or upgradeability of a V0.2 or something else that I could build for a bit more money and get as a kit if I don’t feel like self sourcing.

    Thank you! I understand; however, in my case, I had most of the parts lying around. And I needed a small printer that could be built easily without breaking the bank.

    Amazing video 👏 I use this same hotend on my printers, it works well at high speeds for a good price. The only problem was a thermal error where the temperature reading varied greatly when the assembly moved very quickly. I solved this by removing the jst connector from the sensor and soldering it.

    I wonder what the total cost estimate comes to?

  • @SweHam
    @SweHamАй бұрын

    Probably not too much, a good chunk of components were cheap knock offs. The rails for example say HiWin on them but they definitely aren't genuine, they lack the laser etching on the rail

  • @LoopLinks
    @LoopLinksАй бұрын

    Cost was around 250$ excluding Motors, Extruder, Bed and Power supply. Motors, extruder and power supply were reused from one of the old 3d printer. Guide rails weren't genuine however sliding blocks used were original Hiwin.

    Nice! You should program the light to "fill up" to follow the printing % progress. Start from no lights to full lights. You should also include where you got the parts like leds and controller board.

    I originally bought an Altec baby boom. I.loved it. It finally died after Night after night I kept it hooked to the charger so I could watch movies. I killed the battery. Soooo I went and bought 2 more Altec speakers..the hydro link(?) With all the STUPID DISCO LIGHTS. I think they soldered in the lights back arse wards or something backwards because I have to click through every light setting to get to normal speaker mode. NORMAL SHOYLD BE THE 1ST SETTING. Thats why Im here..I want to know if I can open it up and snip the LED lights. I hate these things.

    Yeah but you need to add a support to the x-axis from the other side. As in the end I showed how much x-axis is tilting in the corner where there is no support and due to that there were some imperfection in the engraving.
