Hey there, Shadowsoothe here!
I'll be uploading various piano arrangements I work out...whenever I get them worked out. They'll range from anime to Asian pop (kpop and jpop mostly) and video game music as well! Perhaps a few other things that pop up every now and then.
The arrangements themselves will start as solo piano arrangements I create in Sibelius. The audio you'll find here will have been put through Pro Tools for a bit of an extra oomph to go with the Synthesia visual of it! Perhaps I'll upload some that are just the piano, but we'll see!
Hope you enjoy! :)

Certainly a different take on the theme. I kinda like it. Swaps out the industrial punk for a more trance-like style and makes it work.

good job as always!!

A lot of double stop chords. Removes one note in the triad, doubles another. Suggests it's supposed to be played on a guitar. Instructive how the left hand hits every 1/8th note when it's supposed to sound faster even if it isn't.
Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the double stop chords/triads, I assume you're referring to the "power chords" I'm using during the 'climax' of the song loop (for example, 1:39 to 2:07)? If so, then the comment about the guitar is on point as the synth in the original song sounded/felt like a guitar lead and I used that as an inspiration to help fill out that part as the original is using single notes for the melody whereas I used octaves (doubled notes) or added the fifth (the "removed" note of the triad/power chord). The 1/8th note runs that you're referring to (starting at 1:12 to 2:07 of the first loop) is the way I interpreted the energy of the song (rather, the energy I felt when first playing this part of the game). The arpeggiator part in the original is also a factor of this as I liked what it brought, but it's not really something to put directly onto a piano part so I went with the running 1/8th instead.
@@Shadowsoothe This is your interpretation of the original song? I thought it was the original, good job!
To be fair, this one wasn't from scratch like some of my other videos. I started from a copy of the song from the published DoReMi book which is...pretty barebones and basic (dare I say...boring?). While not the actual copy I worked from, I did find one that seems like a direct reprint of what I worked from at www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0083224 if you want to see the starting point. It was basically starting from that and studying the original to then work around the melody and chord progressions to adapt/arrange a piano solo that better presented the energy of the song (well, to me...of course). And yes, I added a bit of an embellishment to parts of the melody for fun and extra flair to certain parts of the song. The tick-tock left hand at the start of the song was trying to work in the tick-tock percussion in the original, but put to pitches in a bass sequence to help drive the initial section. Of course, I also needed to figure out an actual ending for this since it's just a loop in FF9. The rest of the parts around my piano solo were produced in Pro Tools. They weren't to exactly remake the song, but a certain sound set I've been liking to use in my other videos. Of course, looking back at this now with mechanics I've learned how to use in Pro Tools I can hear parts I think I could do better now, but I'll leave this one as is. Perhaps I'll upload a "remastered" one at some point? Pardon if this is unnecessary, but since you thought mine was the original...here's the actual original for reference. kzread.info/dash/bejne/epVqy7mJodWwlag.html I assume you knew of the original before getting to my YT video...but it's just in case~ :) Thanks again for giving my version a listen! (Sorry this got so long!)
@@Shadowsoothe I like seeing bigger arrangements reduced to something that can be played on the piano because it's easier to see how it's structured. The melody in your version for example, two lines playing at the same time. You probably had an idea of the intervals between those notes. Or maybe that was already in the original music. Perfect fifths, minor thirds, major thirds. The left hand providing rhythm. Those notes aren't really chords they're heading for a chord in the scale. Because they're two notes without the third that would create a triad their relationship creates the harmony until the next chord. Something like this is probably what composers end up with before they arrange their music. If you have made something like this or plan to make something like this from more arranged fancy music I'd definitely like to see it. Something like Kessen 3 by Rejiro Koroku or similar underappreciated epic scores. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJ-Eua2te9fYqJM.html You'll not even find midi version of this music even though it's easily comparable to Nobuo Uematsu. I don't think Nobuo Uematsu is overrated, he is just over-covered. Keep up the great work, it's very interesting.
Thanks for the feedback! It's interesting to hear how this looks to another person. Throughout the song, the chords of each progression are actually there. In the first part, the two tones in the right hand make up part of the chord while one note of the left hand completes it. The other beat of the left hand is part of the chord too, but its pulse helps drive the song. I hadn't heard of Koroku's work so thanks for the suggestion on that. I'll have to give it more of a listen and perhaps something will catch my ear to start working on at some point. I've got a few other things I'm working on (or planning to start) so I don't know when that would be.
amazing!
Thanks! ^_^

I only had the cassette tape from Pizza Hut though I don't recall how I got that anymore. I've considered making an attempt at "Count On Us" from that album, but we'll see.

This song is my favorite among all the piano performances played by Smile. If you don't mind, could you send me the sheet music or mid file? I'm also making a smile piano cover version Thank you for your reply.
Hi there! I'm happy that you liked my version of Smile so much! Well...my mix of two versions I had made so I suppose it might be a bit misleading of the, er,, "quality" of my cover/arrangement with the two playing together? I really appreciate your asking for the midi file, but I'm sorry that I can't provide you that. I still think about the best way to provide sheet music, but I'm really not sure how I want to go about doing that (no idea as to the best place to go for this)... It'd really be neat to hear people playing my arrangement of songs though!! I'm curious, did you listen to my Adv v2 that I uploaded later? You can find it at kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipel0aZ7mbq2m7Q.html if you'd like! Don't forget to smile~ <3 (I hope this translates well back into Korean as I noticed you supplied a Google translate of your original Korean!)
Thank you for your answer. If it is difficult to provide the mid file, I will ask for another request. I like the sound of the instruments in this music. So, I'm curious what instrument did you use? What kind of piano did you use, and what other instruments did you use with it? Answers I'll wait.
I'm so sorry about the delay in getting back to you!! Being that this was my first Pro Tools production the setup is kinda weird, but I'll break it down as I can. The music you hear is based on 4 tracks I have in my Pro Tools file, which are as follows (everything is using the Xpand2 instrument set that comes with Pro Tools First): Track 1: Adv v1 piano solo (blue and green bars). The piano sound is a custom mix I put together. I'm not sure if you use Pro Tools or not, but in it you can assign 4 instruments on a channel. So this 'piano' is actually a combination of 4 things - "Natural Grand Piano", "Piano Soft Layer", "Reduced Piano", and "Resonant Ambience" at various sound levels. Track 2: Simple v1 piano solo (red and purple bars). This one uses a built-in preset called Hard Grand Piano in the Acoustic Piano group, but I've tweaked it. Instead of the Natural Grand Piano it uses I replaced that with a GS Piano+ (under Electric Pianos) and added a Soft Pad called Sunrise+ as well as tweaking their volume levels. Track 3: The acoustic guitar "riff" you hear along with the pianos. This is a tweaked use of the House Piano preset where I changed the two instruments it originally has to Hard Nylon String and Finger Nylon Acoustic+. Again, I tweaked the volume levels of these two instruments from the preset. Track 4: The drum loop behind everything. This is another tweaked use of the House Piano preset...amusingly. This time I changed the two instruments to two of the included drum loop patches (Loops for Pad Banks 3+ and Drum n Bass 175+). A note about tracks 3 and 4 is that I have NO written part for them at all. Both of them are based on the midi file of the "simple" piano arrangement with those instrument patches applied. Essentially it's a bit of "Pro Tools magic" as I've come to call it as the software interprets the midi file using the instrument patches I've applied and...you hear what it comes out as! This is what I've done on pretty much all of my tracks. A couple I've written out certain parts I wanted to have in the 'backing band' (like what I am doing with my newest one that is almost ready..."Love Bomb" by fromis_9), but otherwise it's just Pro Tool making "magic" with chord progression midi files (or the piano solo itself). If you have any questions I'll try to clear up what I can! I'm hoping this helps and is clear to some extent as it crosses a language barrier! EDIT: Forgot a word and formatting.

Oh? A medley of the rest? Or were you wanting to see/hear my take on something else from Lagoon's OST? xD
@@Shadowsoothe I really like the armed and ready & the game over and I'd like to play them on the piano myself but I don't know the music :)
Hmm, looks like "Armed and Ready" (the boss theme) is a 0: 34 loop and the game over theme (I guess it doesn't have a title for it?) is a 1: 02 loop. I'm currently working on another song I've been wanting to do (of a huge pile that keeps growing!), but I'll keep these in mind as possible things to do afterwards. No promises though! ^_^; Not sure what I'd really do with these tracks at first listen, honestly... :S By the way...I don't think I ever really heard the game over track before now. I had heard a number of the other tracks while watching PJDicesare speedrun this silly game. He...didn't spend much time on the game over screen. :P EDIT: added spaces in the loop timers as...without the space it apparently tried to be time stamps? >_<;
Very awesome
Thank you! :)

I want to play it at home, can I get the sheet music?
Hi there! I appreciate the interest in the sheet music of my arrangement! I'm...still trying to decide the best way to share it.
Thank you! Looking forward to it!
Classic melody
Indeed! ;)
Pretty cool. Looks like guitar hero
It makes sense that you'd think it looks like Guitar Hero. The visual aspect from the moving bars is from a program called Synthesia which is...basically a Guitar Hero for piano. Thanks for checking it out!
It's so good, can not stop listening!
It makes me happy to hear that you liked it that much!
@@Shadowsoothe Are you a fan of Super Junior? I see another SJ video from yours xD
Yeah, I like a lot of their songs (you have a video of another song I've thought about attempting). I originally worked on "Islands" and someone who watched that video suggested/requested this song. I hadn't really planned on taking requests much, but this song really interested me so I decided to do it. One of these days I really should do a song or two of the group that really got me into K-pop... Infinite. :)

Hi there! I do have sheet music for the piano solo (each of my videos are based on sheet music I've written in Sibelius, actually). However, I have yet to decide how I may make it available. I'm not against doing so, but I haven't worked out the best way for me to proceed. Thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you liked my version to ask for the sheet music (I really need to look into this more...)! ^_^

Nice work, bro! :D
Thanks Jeff! I'm glad you liked it. :) There's definitely some audio tweaks that could still be done to this as we discussed on Discord. Who knows...perhaps I'll upload a v2 of this instrumentation of some point with those adjustments (making the LH pop out a bit more and add a sustain pedal to the piano portion as well). Of course, our discussion reminds me about how I've thought about starting a second playlist on this channel for "piano only" uploads (without all the other Pro Tools fun). More things to work on. ;)
@@Shadowsootheultra nice version.. i liked it alot.. i know it's been 2 years and hope you doing well.. will love to see version 2 =]
@@eitanmalul4877 Hi there! (remade the comment as apparently I can't @/tag you when responding in YT studio!) I'm happy that you liked this version I shared! :D I've been doing well and working on other songs (finishing another up probably this week?). I had actually forgotten about thinking about remaking/remastering this one. Now that you reminded me of it, I wonder if I should redo areas of the piano solo along with the sustain pedal. Well, maybe tinkering with other variations for the left hand...dunno... Of course, when listening to this one again after the others I've done recently I could see tweaks to the drum loop (try to 'fake' in drum fills like I have on recent tracks) or maybe see if there is anything from AOA's track I may want to add to the backing portion? This video was one of earlier projects before I started controlling more of what I was producing in Pro Tools for the audio (transcribing parts and sound balancing everything...or attempting to). I may have had the synth bass a bit too much in front (it's a faster bass sequence than what I have in the piano solo itself!). Listening back to this makes me want to redo/remove the synth track that ends up sounding a like a fake voice 'echo' (starting 1:12 in particular through that verse). I'd have to see how I had it controlled in my mix to see if it's popping up in other places that actually worked... Lots to think on as I'm not sure what I'd want to do for a 'version 2' of this yet... x_x;;
@@Shadowsoothe Tyvm for the reply ^^ i'm sure whatever version you will do it will be amazing..! i really like and appreciate your work.. hope to get near you level one day :D will wait for the version to come out XD

I love it♡, do Dorothy by Suju please! :( I can't find it anywhere
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) Also, thank you for the suggestion. I hadn't listened to much of the Suju sub-unit stuff and this is a really pretty track so I'm surprised no one has done anything with it, I'll definitely keep it in mind as something to work on! I haven't been able to do much for quite awhile as the whole Covid thing has prevented me from having the music lessons with my teacher who has been helping me work on these while teaching me music theory. I'm hoping I can start back up soon with the vaccines being more prevalent. There's a K-pop song I had been working on and almost finished when this mess started...hopefully I can get that finished and upload that soonTM! Thanks again for stopping by! <3
Hey there! (I wanted to @tag you, but apparently I can't do this here??) Are you still wanting to me have at go at arranging "Dorothy" by Suju KRY? I've been listening to that more again now that I'm back into lessons and starting to finish up a few other projects (the one I mentioned uploading in the previous comment has been up for some time now). I've noticed that there are a few piano renditions of the song already up on YT, but were you looking for a Synthesia video of it like what I did with "Islands"? Not sure how mine will end up sounding compared to those already out there (I haven't actually listened to any as I don't want to, um, bias any thoughts I may have on it), but I'm thinking it will be my next project after I finish the two I'm currently on. Hope you don't mind waiting a bit longer!

Haha. Sorry, I got impatient. I enjoyed them all regardless.
For reference, here's how the split of the arrangements in the video are: Advanced version (originally posted to my SoundCloud in August 2017): SoundCloud link (piano only): soundcloud.com/shadowsoothe/smile-software Left hand: Blue bars Right hand: Green bars Simplified version (originally posted to my SoundCloud in August 2019): SoundCloud link (piano only): soundcloud.com/shadowsoothe/smile-software-v2 Left hand: Red bars Right hand: Purple bars Also, any points that it shows only purple bars for the melody is when the purple and green are doing the same thing! Perhaps I'll upload videos of these versions on their own. Not sure if I'll make them piano only or process them a bit with Pro Tools like this one. If interested, let me know!
