Marissa Lyda

I’m Marissa! A mom to 2 boys and I’m passionate about budgeting for our family!

My husband and I got married right out of college and had $87,000 of student loan debt. We had dreams for our future which included having a house and a family and we knew we couldn't do it all with so much debt. So we decided to start a budget and make some sacrifices, and within 2.5 years, we became debt-free! Since then, we've saved for an emergency fund, upgraded our cars and bought a house all thanks to budgeting.

I love budgeting because it gives you the permission to spend on things that are important to you all while still working on your financial goals. Here on my channel I share budgeting tips to help you feel confident in your ability to balance life and money.

People who said that have never struggled with money. They haven't had to put off their dental care because they can't afford it. They don't drive around in a car with no AC when it's over 100 degree's outside, they don't have to calculate every item they put in their cart and weigh all the produce and disconnect that one banana. People who say that have money and aren't happy because they don't know what it's like to not have it. They don't know the joy of going shopping and knowing you have enough to cover it. They understand the peace that comes with knowing that you can afford a car repair AND A RENTAL CAR while it's being fixed. They don't know how it feels to be able to just do what you need to do because you can afford it. They don't cry at night when they get a bigger bill. Or when something unexpected happens that costs money. They have a peace they don't even know exists.

Had a CIT Bank account with funds on deposit for over a year. Then I tried to wire 30% of the balance to escrow to close on a real estate purchase. Wire denied because I changed phone carriers two weeks ago... same number, just a different service. Rep told me this was policy and wires would be blocked for SIX MONTHS. They agreed they had confirmed my identity, but claimed it as policy. I was able to transferred funds out via ACH and get a bank check in the mail which will both have to clear from my local bank. Fortunately I have time on this purchase, but I am closing the CIT account.

Mama I'm so sorry for your loss, I feel you. I found out I miscarried my baby last week, at my 8 week ultrasound appointment. Had a silent miscarriage, my baby's heart stopped at 7 weeks and my body had no idea. I feel like a part of me is gone forever and I miss my little baby every second of the day. I'm trying to continue on with life, praying to God to give me strength, hope and light but the sadness is so heavy. Me and my husband TTC for 7 months until we got that positive test - the best day of my life. We told our family and close friends and celebrated my sunshine's life. Everyone was so happy. Telling all of them the sad news was terrible and I felt like I was reliving that moment time and time again but their support and prayers have given me some peace. I really don't know how to move on from this but I'm hopeful that God one day will bless us with a family of our own. My dogs have been super helpful in all of this, I know they know because they cuddle me all day and lick my tears away. My husband has been my absolute rock in this, he lets me grieve, holds me every chance he gets and tells me he loves all day and night. I'd be lost without him. This, by far, has been the worst experience of my life, the heartache is like non other. I would have loved to kiss and hold my baby, I wonder everyday what he or she would have looked like. The doctors had to do a D&C on me 3 days ago and I am so sad that I never got to know my baby. Never thought I'd be one of four women who go through this. Please pray for me and my husband.

It’s a slippery slope toward idolatry to start thinking money buys happiness bc if you lost a loved one today, nothing you buy will make you happy. Things or “stuff” can spark joy for us but it’s not our source of happiness. Rich celebrities who have everything prove this time and time again. Faith and family over everything.

  • @TheBudgetingWife

My faith and family are different level of happiness in my life. But you can have that and also enjoy the things you've worked hard for. Of course my minivan doesn't come close to my love or happiness for my family.

You don’t have to take a vow of poverty to be a good Christian and it’s not idolatry to be grateful for being financially able to buy things that spark joy. All I hear is gratitude, not worshiping earthly possessions. And just because she is grateful for what she has doesn’t mean she doesn’t find happiness in faith or family. Geeze, what a judgy take.

We sacrificed and said "no" to a lot for years while we paid off debt and built our savings to build a financial foundation. Which now allows us to say "yes" to spending money on things we want! The point of working on your finances is not to restrict yourself for forever. It's so you can enjoy more in the future. :)
