If we were able to trim with 5 giant boys, you can with 2! It's about what you get where, when you shop, planning,...

I live in Ohio and food is not taxed, but everything else is taxed. If you go to a restaurant, if you eat in the establishment, you get taxed, but if you do carry out, it’s not taxed. 🤪 Confusing, I know! Haha

In CA the distinction for food is prepared food is taxed but groceries aren’t. So even prepared food at the grocery stores, like the hot food bar at Whole Foods, would be taxed. If someone else cooked and prepared it for you so you just have to eat, it’s taxed. So freezer meals and stuff wouldn’t be taxed but deli sandwiches would be.

Sales tax in Phoenix AZ is 8.6%, so your $150 eating out budget in Portland would be $162.90 in Phoenix. Maybe increase your eating out budget to $165 to compensate?

Do you track your purchases each day or as you jake them? If you are waiting until the end of the month to add everything up- then yeah you won’t find out until the end how far over budget you are. If you do it daily you will realize once you’ve hit your limit and stop spending on eating out, fun, etc.

Love your budgeting videos!! Just curious if you have any kind of TV streaming in your budget? One question, when you are transferring out of sinking funds savings do you add it into one lump sum to transfer or send individual amounts out of savings directly towards CC bill every month? I’m still trying to get the flow of transferring from my sinking funds so was curious how you do it so it doesn’t get confusing. Also super jealous of your property taxes! I live in Vermont and they are double yours😢

I’m so jealous of these numbers 😅 in New Orleans our property insurance is $1200 a month, property tax is $900 a month, car insurance on two cars $675 a month and we pay 10% sales tax and 7% state income tax. Wish our parents and family would move! California was cheaper to live in and had better schools/social safety nets.

Yes, hurricanes and flooding, although our house has never flooded and was built in 1958. We get hit hard by “wind and hail” coverage because we live near water. The car insurance is high because there are no laws regulating injury lawsuits. That plus a high rate of uninsured drivers equals higher premiums.

In AZ there a not a grocery tax but cities can implement. Phoenix does my tax grocery. Glendale does.

I'm shocked you can feed your family for even $686. We can't get below $1200 and we are all hangry and unhappy at that point, and cost of living is not high where we live! My kids just EAT I guess.

We are a family of four. Two kids ages 4 and 2 and live in CA. We pay around $1,000 a month for groceries. Sometimes a bit more if we purchase beef. I cannot wait for grilling season! Marissa has always been a tightwad with her grocery budget. I watched her when she was around $250 a month for groceries. $600+ must be making her head spin off camera haha
