    I don't have this problem, but I noticed how little the engine shakes here. I have a 2014, 1.4 turbo and the engine shakes a lot when idling. But it seemed to always shake so, idk...

    Shouldn't be any different than what you saw with this vehicle. I would suggest a cylinder misfire condition, but you should get a DTC with that. Could be an engine mount wearing out.

    Hey thanks for the reply. I have no engine codes. Can a dtc tell me smth is wrong even if no engine light is on? I'll ask my guy next time to check the mounts and ask if he finds cylinder misfire

    The most common fix is the rod clip. Don't waste money on a new handle until you've inspected it. Also, Dorman replacements are just as good as OEM and come with a warranty. Cost half as much.

My question is if turn on power of the Manufacturer Amplifier don't come on the Manufacturer Amplifier...but the radio head unit has no sound!.....is the no sound issue due to Manufacturer Amplifier has no power on? If the gm motors don't have my pertaining Manufacturer Amplifier and discontinued it which way can I hookup my after market boss radio without the Manufacturer Amplifier is it possible? Thanks in advance with any way to hookup my new radio with Manufacturer Amplifier or is a way to address this unusual issue?

    There is SEM Car interior and trim paint available in spray cans to make a perfect color match of the armrest. SEM has paint colors for all GMT 400 colors used on the interior. Did exactly that repair myself a while ago also with an aftermarket part that was TAN color and matched color perfectly to navy blue interior. To give the interior paint top durability I locked in the pigmented SEM paint with General Finishes Clear 2K Poly Top Coat, Water Based, Flat sheen - using isocyanate catalyst. (That may be cost prohibitive since the finishes with catalyst are only sold in 1 Gal jugs - and you need an HVLP spray rig - we use it on outdoor furniture all the time).

  • @DrShock
    @DrShock3 күн бұрын

    Definitely cost prohibitive. And very unlikely to last given the arm rest exterior is soft flexible vinyl, not rigid like interior trim. Originally they are molded to color, not painted, unlike some other interior trim pieces.

    Hi I have a question, say you weren't able to notice any physical disrepair to the board (for example cracked solder joints, bad capacitators, broken traces) how you you more forward in diagnosis to make a repair to the component? I am interested in trying to learn how to repair electronic modules and am curious what could be done to learn how to fix. I have the original Delco radio out of my 2006 Silverado (I've since replaced it with a more modern touchscreen pioneer head unit) but I've always wanted to fix it and maybe reuse it for like a shop radio but i cant find any damage to the board so there's likely a failed component somewhere (concern was no sound out put all other functions normal)

  • @DrShock
    @DrShock5 күн бұрын

    It's really not cost effective to do board level repair on a three decade old automotive module. Especially since many, if not all, of the ICs Delco (and later Delphi) used are going to be proprietary and _unobtainium_ commercially. For something _easy_ you could test for shorts to ground on the capacitors and resistors, and you could do a diode test on each of the diodes and transistors. You could test for continuity to voltage and ground at each of the ICs (presuming you could determine the pinout in the absence of a datasheet), each leg of the harness connector, and each of the bridge connector pins. But I'd say that's about it, and I wouldn't even go that far when you can just pop in a replacement from the salvage yard for $15 or so.

    As always an excellent video. Would potting help sustain the board, or retain more heat?

  • @DrShock
    @DrShock5 күн бұрын

    Thanks. Due to the electro-mechanical aspect of the module resulting in an open space requirement, potting would not be possible. But the board was sprayed with a clear _conformal coating_ for protection from the elements originally by Delco.

  • @DrShock

    I did not need to re-apply any coating as the solder reflow did not sufficiently disturb the factory original one to be a concern.

  • @DrShock

    Not likely, because the entire VIN string is compared by the BCM. Why though - you're already in the EEPROM editor just replace the whole string and be done with the repair.

    Love all of your eeprom videos. I used to work with eeproms way back and am glad to see people still doing it. Here is my question..... So i had XM on my vehicle before it was just totaled. I had a special rate that i prepaid for5 years of service and it is not transferrable according to XM. I know my radio id on old vehicle and new radio vehicle. I changed the id in the new radio to the id of rhe old radio (verified it was actually on the eeprom) and the id got changed back automatically so it didn't work. Obviously there is a module somewhere (radio, BCM, other) that is the master that is overwriting it. Any thoughts on what other module in the vehicle is doing that? Or is it another eemprom within this module that is overwriting it? Thanks.

  • @DrShock
    @DrShock5 күн бұрын

    In order to keep that lifetime subscription, you would have to keep the same make/model/year range of vehicle and same type of radio and XM receiver pair. Then copy the original XM receivers EEPROM contents and (with the copy only) overwrite the VIN (at least with GM vehicles) in the EEPROM memory of BOTH the replacement radio and replacement XM receiver to match the new vehicles BCM VIN because none of the scan tools are allowed to reprogram an XM module. As you've seen any other approaches will be thwarted by the firmware inside the module. This is a combination of BCM, radio, and XM receiver all working together to insure VIN locked alignment.

  • @user-ch3if5jk6s
    @user-ch3if5jk6s5 күн бұрын

    @@DrShock Thanks for the reply. I had a 2005 Grand Prix that has a board very similar to your video. New vehicle is a 2008 cobalt. I guess what I want to do won't work on newer vehicle since they are different type of model radio & XM receiver modules. But that makes me really wonder....Is it really hard coded into the XM module or is it possible that it is in the radio and the radio is the master that feeds it the XM radio ID once the initial pairing is done at the factory? Example the BCM has mileage/VIN and it is the master and if the Speedometer module or radio is changed without the proper VIN or even a different mileage coded, they won't work.

  • @DrShock
    @DrShock5 күн бұрын

    The radio negotiates the VIN with the BCM. BCM is only involved in the VIN. Radio stores the VIN and makes sure the XM receiver matches that VIN. Radio knows knows nothing more about XM receiver. XM receiver uses VIN + ID to communicate to the satellites for account authorization and authentication. The ID *AND* VIN must match or your subscription isn't going to be valid anymore. The XM receiver knows nothing about the vehicle type (make/model/year) just the VIN and ID. But it knows if the VIN is not a match with the BCM because the radio is in between to tell it that information. The XM receiver will VIN lock when this is detected.

    Hello and best regards from Hungary, very great and informative video! I have a first generation fiat bravo , manufactured in 1997. It has no ABS. All mechanical brake parts are new on the front and back also, but on the MOT they tested the brake power and its only 50%...So of course mot is failed. They said maybe the brake booster is the reason. One sympthom is indicate that is true: when the engine off and i push the brake pedal lot of times, no change in the pedal hardness feeling. I mean it is not sinking, not feels like spongy , it is standard hard, however not coming higher level like at my other car. But the strange is, When i start the engine and pressed the pedal , it is went down slightly a little bit like normaly should be. However i can hear a little shh shh noise when i press the pedal. Not noisy, it is similar like in my other car what is function very good. What do you think, this sympthom means my brake booster is over?

  • @DrShock

    That's a sign that the _stepper motor_ unit, which controls the needle position, was likely on its way out anyway. That shaft the needle rides on should be _very_ difficult to remove. You can desolder and replace the stepper motor itself. It's not sold by GM, but they are out there on eBay just search one that fits the Cavalier.

  • @DrShock

    You'll have to read the contents with an EEPROM programmer first. Typically if these chips fail they will read nothing, or all garbage. But they rarely fail, it's usually some other component(s) on the circuit board that fail, or damage to the circuit board that does in a BCM.
