    YezenIRL did an excellent video titled, "Tragic Idealism: Why we should pity Daenerys Targaryen" that explores the cognitive dissonance between her apparent altruism and her justifications for executing on her plans of rulership. I recommend it to everyone. However valid and thought-provoking these instances foreshadowing a darker nature in Daenerys, there are still some things that bother me about presenting Dany as the Big Bad of the entire story. I mean, look around Westeros at what all the MEN were doing to people. There isn't a single thing Daenerys did at any point that the men of Westeros who held power did not do, and worse, to people subjugated by them on a regular basis. And yet Dany was the only one that ever cited a shed of altruism behind her intention to rule. Furthermore, there are enough scenes of her grappling with wanting to be a good, compassionate ruler that makes peoples' lives better to contravene the notion that her motives were just to be another tyrant. In the world that Martin created, "the end justifies the means" is a theme common to every one of the characters, not just Daenerys. So as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing anomalous about her behavior; nothing that makes her stand out as being more violent than any of the men around her and from any of the aristocratic houses of Westeros. Having not read the books, I don't know how Martin builds her arc along the way to strafing all of King's Landing. We can all agree that Dumb and Dumber should never be forgiven for how they ruined the show, and they should not be viewed as the authority on Daenerys' real plot arc by any means. But without sufficient enough examples of violent motivation to outweigh the numerous examples of altruistic motivation in this character, it's not enough to convince me that she is the villain of the entire story.

    Well, it was her last ditch effort to call for peace. That is what good rulers do. Risk their lives to negotiate for peace to save thousands. And to get clarity. Now she knows that the only way to win is through war. Now she will be all for war and not peace. So this scene no matter how stupid, it needed to happen.

    Yes, but their egos were too big to give control over to anyone else. These guys were still even writing most of the scripts in the final two seasons. The crazy thing is they could've just remained as executive producers and if others had done a halfway decent job in ending the story, they still would've received most of the credit.

  • @priyankadey4855

    The show so badly wants us to know that Alicent and Rhaenyra still care about each other that they are willing to make both of them look like complete idiots. Ironically, they wouldn't have to go to these ludicrous lengths to underscore their deep connection if only they had taken the time out to flesh out their bond a little more in season 1. If they had only explored their relationship during Rhaenyra and Laenor's long stay in the Red Keep, we may have felt the poignancy of kin turning on kin without either party acting like imbeciles.

  • @reelworld1
    @reelworld116 сағат бұрын

    Exactly. My two problems with the first season were character development and the fast pacing. The latter also impacted the first. It was an awkward transition to the younger to older Rhaenyra, and it felt like so much story was left to have the blanks filled in. I know there was one deleted Rhaenyra/Alicent scene prior to Alicent's marriage to Viserys that could've helped a bit. To make up for last season they could've utilized some flashbacks in the first few episodes and then had them correspond via letters.

    In real life it’s common for female leaders to be even more hawkish because they feel they have something to prove to the men around them. Liz truss saying how she wasn’t afraid to get into a nuclear exchange with Russia comes to mind. Like what are you on about that should be your main fear😂

The quality began to slip in season six, seven and eight were CLEARLY rushed. Should have seen more of Cersei, Spider and Qyburn, Jon and Daenrys meeting should have BEEN different and Tyrion Most definitely should have not been downplayed so much in the latter seasons. More Brandon content seeing how( in more detail) he becomes the Raven. But no one mention this, they just say what they didn't like, not what was needed to improve the latter seasons. That's why I don't take this blog seriously.

    Lost ending was fantastic. Can’t argue if people have different opinions but people that say “it didn’t make sense” “they were dead the whole time” either are lacking the brain power or didn’t watch the series in full. Everything that needed to be wrapped up was. The emotional payoff for these characters we got so invested in was so heartfelt and true. It’s everything GoT lacked in its ending. Staying true to what the show was originally about. The fantastic characters.
