After years of loving this song I just realised something. The man thrown in the maze originally was in the public. From this I get that us, as a society, are mocking people's struggles, adding on to it by humiliating them until it's our time and we finally understand the struggle and pain of all that have come before us

Look into the conversation with the video's director, Ringan Ledwidge (R.I.P.) He mentions Phantasm (the creepy ball thing was based on similar ones) & Possession, which includes an outstanding performance by Isabelle Adjani. She said later that she had to go into therapy after that role. If you watch the scene on the subway you can see why! The director set this video in a subway, but a brightly coloured one, not the grim place where Adjani's character breaks down, it's an interesting contrast to the scene that takes place. Rosalind Pike's performance is just as physical as Adjani's. She wears a similar dress to the Possession character & though she starts off in control & confident she soon falls into abject fear - the influence is very clear. Ledwidge created a.genius video & Pike turns in a brave & powerful performance. It's the best music video I've ever seen. I love the menacing music, it's pure Massive Attack. I listen to it regularly as it's great in it's own right, but with that video... it's fire.

the real story of this song is about a drunk man who lost his son ( we were wonderful together, you were wonderful, I was pathetic and it is a story of a man whom Stomae met once on the street of Brussels and he made a song about it...he sings and act as well, that makes it realistic video..... it is a said story
