I agree. I don't think it's 'enough' to grab the attention of America tbh. I hope she releases another single with more of a 'hello bitches' vibe. I really want her to show more of her Korean influence in her Western releases.

The song is infectious. It hooks you in with simple/generic lyrics that are easy to sing along to. It's perfect for top 40 radio, which is probably what her team is aiming for. I love it, but at the same time I wanted more from her because I know she's capable of more. CL is a good all-around performer, but she's never going to be a good lyricist as a hip-hop artist, so it's good that she's exploring the pop side of things. She only started writing recently, so she doesn't have the experience or diction to write anything mindblowing, so anyone expecting that from her should just look for someone else.

2NE1 is actually not splitting, they just lost a member Minzy. Bom and Dara are supporting CL American debut a lot. I didn't like the song also but it just grows on you and I have been playing it nonstop.

I didn't love it when I first heard it - but primarily I was turned off that she chose to remake a method man song as her english debut single. I would've liked something more original. I had sasaeng fans calling me a hater for saying that. But after I listened to it a few times and the fact that Method Man made a cameo - I warmed up to it. I think this is a better follow up to her debut english single - but not the debut single. The debut single should pack more of a punch like "hello bitches' but in english.

It's perfect pop material. Catchy chorus and tune, but ultimately pretty disposable. I get the criticisms of the song. It's almost completely Westernized (other than the hints of 1st wave ska/reggae in the beat). It doesn't have any of the traits that make kpop different, so that's a bit of a shock. The video is kinda odd & feels low quality, especially the graphics. Despite that I still really like the song. The chorus & beat are infectious and get stuck in your head. I love the ska/reggae influences in it. I love the tone & texture of CL's voice in this one. Ultimately the song feels like a groovy summer jam--something you'd listen to while just chilling with friends & family. To me that makes it a pretty damn good pop song.

I'm also feeling conflicted, idk why i like it but i don't know why i don't. It's good and I love CL but something about it ... I think if they stuck to sound at around (3:06) throughout the song I might've like it more. But i've been listening to this on repeat and it has grown on me

It's been growing on me the more I listen to it, but it still feels like it's lacking something. The hook is nice, but the verses are basic and meh. I expected more from her for a debut. I don't hate it, but my expectations are tempered some if what is coming is going to be more of the same.

I agree, it's pretty mediocre. Doesn't really stand out. If she wasn't an idol before this nobody would listen to it. But whenever I say I don't like it her stans are like 'well you shouldn't expect a kpop song'. No, I know. It's just basic.

I completely agree with you. And its funny how almost all the other kpop reviewers try to really choose how they phrase their words and try their hardest to censor their real reactions to this song just so they wont get hate from most fans. Im a fan too (blackjack, VIP, all around YGstan) but i dont get how the other fans gang up on you when you so much as state a different opinion or perspective about this song. I mean, even as a fan, were still entitled to our own opinion right? People not digging it as much as her previous ones dont make them less of a fan. Its just that, this song just doesnt cut it for them. Like me. It doesnt mean tho that i wont support her and still adore her 110% and wait for the rest of her album.

I'm indifferent about it because she is working with so many great producers and they put out a song with such a big sample. If you sample a song it should be on the same level or better than the original. Method Man's lyrics are about 75% of the song. The line about the 40 doesn't fit her style and it's dated.

I thought it was meh - it felt lacking
