I played the original on 3ds, I can tell you it's really good, id say better than stories 2, if 2 has anything over 1 it's certain changes to certain mechanics like having 3 weapons equipped so yo7 can have easy access to different element types or damage types. There are also some changes that's better in 1, like the ability to actually change your monsties element. There is one thing I'm curious about, but I won't know til I see the switch version. For those curious, on the 3ds you could get Epona as a monstie if you scanned a zelda series amiibo. Anyways I wonder how faithful it will be to the original and what things from mhs2 they brought over to this version.

Give me one sub weapon for underwater fights for some very limited Monsters. Like you fight siege monster with canons but an actual underwater weapon and that would be fun.

Using the rite of channeling, does the gene you transfer have to be in the exact same spot that it was in on the sacrificial monster? That's the way it was in the original release and it drove me insane. Also, it seems to me like a lot of the "typeless" genes have been given power/speed/tech instead of being blank. That was something else that bothered me in the original release because it was really difficult to achieve bingos when most of the attacks didn't have a type, just an element. ...still not sure if I want to get it, if only because Mizutsune was the only water monster in the second game that I really liked, and it wasn't in the first game. What I did on the 3DS was get a Lagiacrus and make it water element, but man, the lack of Mizutsune stung, especially since Glavenus was added later as a DLC monster and we really have enough fire element monsters to choose from already. Seriously. (this is a minor gripe, I understand, Mizutsune is just my favorite monster that isn't an Elder Dragon and the selection of water monsters is pitiful)

I was surprised that people actually thought that Bakugou was a bad guy. It was clear from the beginning with just a little media familiarity that most of his over the top behavior was a front. Watching the first episode where we see the absolute worst of him in order to cement a negative first impression of the character, my only thought was "Wow, the point where the author reveals this character is sympathetic is gonna be _really great."_

I actually have to disagree, there is such a thing as lazy game development. It it typically low effort game design that both looks and feels like the dev spent about 5 minutes to make it. Now, reusing assets can be fine as long as it either A) makes sense narratively or B) is creative. For instance you have two rival clans of centaur, both can use the same models but it has to make sense why both are there, were they originally one clan? were they sister clans that are now feuding because of the dalliances of their ancestors? are they the off shoots of two brothers/sisters/siblings who always saw each other as competition? These seem like narrative points but it is the execution of of their stories in the game that defines whether they fall in the lazy development category or the well thought out category of development.

The show used to be more tactical. The power creep is what made it awful over time, it became something it wasn't initially.

I don't know if it's just me (and you guys can tell me in the replies), but I think there is one more aspect that broke MHA that a lot of people seem to overlook. There are many themes in MHA that you have pointed out, Oceaniz: deterioration of altruism, passing the torch, crushing societal expectations, etc. But there was one more overall theme for the story that, in my opinion, set MHA apart from upcoming shounen series today. Heroes and villains. In the world of MHA, there were only villains (those that used their quirks for their own desires, regardless of whether it hurt others) and heroes (those that used their quirks to contribute to the greater good, and save others). Victims that grew up to harm others out of spite (*cough* Shigaraki *cough cough*) were treated like villains as they should. Even characters like Stain, who had a point about modern professional heroes being fake, are still treated like villains because of their destruction. Plus, in a world full of fake heroes, there were still people who genuinely wanted to be altruistic, even to their self-destruction like Deku. A lot of shounen these days have become morally gray, like JJK and Chainsaw Man, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with writing morally gray stories, they made me appreciate shounen like MHA that followed the classic heroes vs. villains theme. And I'm not saying that MHA is completely black and white; it's not. It's just that its moral-greyness wasn't from having no true heroes or villains, but from those that claimed to be heroes not actually being heroic, and from villains who saw themselves as the real heroes, righting "the wrongs of society". But what always remained the same was that there were mainly two sides: good and evil. And no matter your background, you could choose to stray away from the light or become it. That was the difference between Deku and Shigaraki, Todoroki and Dabi, etc. And then the war arc happened. And suddenly everyone in MHA has "always been morally gray". Shigaraki can no longer be truly blamed for his actions because he's possessed by All-for-One. The League of Villains aren't actually villains; they're "victims of society and nothing more". Every hero in the series is being judged more than the villains. It's forced moral-grayness at this point and it's just feels disappointing to me.

I’m glad that this is finally coming to light. MHS 1 and 2 are both SEVERELY UNDERRATED and I can’t stand it being overlooked anylonger

I just thought of something dangerous about the black dragons if we think about it how many of them are really out there that we know of because in the past if there was more elder dragons than in theory with that much bio energy there might just had being a small population of black dragons with the ever stream as with all those hosk of eggs place where you fight the emperor of elders right and the red dragon too

I dont think rise is a "bad" game, nor did it look too bad in my opinion either. I just didn't connect with the strange narrative or characters in town

Changing a Monstie's element in Stories 2 was possible, just more difficult, and there were no visual changes to the Monstie or its attacks happened. Not sure if it works this way in Stories 1, but in Stories 2 it worked like this: Monsties have Element Attack and Element Defense - Fire/Water/Ice/Thunder/Dragon and Non-Elemental. A Monstie's default element is usually the highest, and the element it is weak to is the lowest. By using the (Element) Attack Up genes, you could raise its Element Attack to become higher than its default, thus changing the Monstie's element. But very often, the Monstie's element will change back when it levels up. You would need to stack multiple (Element) Attack Up genes to keep this from happening.

Oh!! I didn't know there was going to be a remaster! This is great bc I played the demo for the 3ds forever ago, but they took down the store for the 3ds before I actually got to play it. It'll be nice to finally get a chance to play it!

I missed the element changing system SO much in stories 2, you can technically do it, but it’s borderline impossible and nothing about the monster changes. In stories 1 not only would the monsters color change but the kinship skill would get an elemental effect to match. Watching Seregios dive bomb with dragon energy or Silver Rathalos Nuke the area with Ice was amazing to watch and experiment with

I still wish to this day that they put in Gore Magala in these games and that you can tame it. They put it's frenzy virus/blight in these games which would go perfectly with it and makes total sense to it being there

One thing I wish both Stories games did is using the actual theme of a specific monsters. It felt odd to fight a Rajang, Brachydios, and Mizutsune while not hearing their unique theme music. In Stories 2, only Velkhana and Fatalis get to use their music themes.

MHS2 was my introduction to Monster Hunter, and I love it for that. Super interested in playing this, at some point. Also, definitely looking forward to more Monster Hunter Ecology! Can we maybe get vids on Astalos, Nerscylla, and Lagiacrus in the future?
