However, in the official phylogeny, they are marked as extremely close relatives of the Banbaro. So either they are an extreme exception were they are basically direct cousins of a Brute Wyvern without being Brute Wyverns themselves, or they are Brute Wyverns and the games simply classify them as Herbivores for gameplay purposes. As far as this video is concerned, the latter is assumed to be the case.

Here's my attempt on classifying Elder Dragons. Traditional Dragons: Kushala, Teostra, Chameleos, and other Elder Dragons that follow the body plan of "Four legs, two wings." Elder Leviathans: The Mohrans, Ceadeus, and Tartonis. Cephalopod Dragons: The Yamas and Nakarkos. Serpent Dragons: Amatsu, The Serpent Duo, and Shantien. Mystical Dragons: Kirin, Elzelion, and other Elder Dragons that defy classification Black Dragons: Alatreon, Dhisufiroa, Safi'jiva, and Fatalis.
That bit about Radobaan eggs was very interesting! Also it's a bit of a shame that Banbaro and Fulgur Anjanath made the Jade Barroth even less relevant

I honestly wish that there were more people like you in the MH community. Because I love talking to my friends about the ecology and biology of monsters, but they don't really seem to care all that much. Instead of seeing them as actual functioning animals, they just view them as typical game bosses.

Hey. Yes, you. You're not alone. I, for one, adore creature designs and am a nerd for (paleo)zoology. I got friends who can look same way as me at Pokemon, but still looking for such ppl who, like you, can dive into MH creatures.
I just had a thought the other day. In-canon I think the Erude Region (the one with most of the volcano locales in it) should be a haven and breeding ground for criminals and other unsavoury types and be the area for the whole criminal underworld in the Monster Hunter universe (including illegal monster fighting rings). It would make sense since hardly anyone lives there and it would be a very difficult region for The Guild to poliice due to the geography of the area. Its just like the Southern Earth Kingdom in Avatar The Last Airbender which was also a criminal haven due to the geography of the Southern Earth Kingdom reigon. I thought about this after your Monster Hunter Film Adaptation video. It would be better for that than the Island District.

@Plain Water while the MH logic is sound, the ATLA logic is not. The entirety of the earth kingdom was and is a complete den of chaos and criminality, with only semi-exception of Ba Sing Se, and the only exception being the Foggy Swamps with the water benders(who keep to themselves and are mainly tribe based). The entirety of the earth kingdom is notoriously hard to police and is almost always in anarchy, with loads of roving bandit gangs.

Very interesting video. I would have thought that Anjanath would have been in the same category as Deviljho, Glanenus with Duramboros because of the tail, Barroth with Banbaro because of the horn, and Barchydios being the only outlier. I know the Glavenus and Barroth wouldn't fit well but Anjanath certainly does with Deviljho. I do hope to see some more Brutes in the future they have a really interesting design.

@@bri1085 Banbaro and Duramboros are in the same tree but different branches which is fine, they are similar enough. It was a stretch to pair Glavenus and Durambros but the only reason was because they both use their tails as their main weapon. I know its like comparing woodpeckers and pelicans because they use their beak. I was thinking more like they'd in the same tree but a very different off-shot branch. I got the idea from Shogun Cenataur and Daimayo Hermitaur. They are similar but very different. Glavenus could be the sword and Duramboros would be the club so they'd be kind of counter-parts.

@@jettblade I understand what you're getting at, but I feel they're just too radically different to be that closely related. Their tails became weapons in different ways. On top of that their diet is also different. Bet then being rivals would be very cool.
If had to take a guess and what those Unclassified brutes belong to I'd say that glavenus and Anjanath are in the same superfamily as deviljho which I would call Tyrant brutes with 2 sub familys which I would classify as the barbed tail brutes with has deviljho and Anjanath and the sword tails which would include glavenus As for barroth and brachydios I'd say they both belong in the same family as both have larger arms then other brute wyverns and I'd call this family the Strongarm brutes

@@joshuasgameplays9850 I think glavenus ancestor and Anjanath/deviljho Ancaster where part of the same infraoder before splitting into thier own separate super familys being the barbed tail brutes (Anjanath and deviljho) and the sword tail brutes (glavenus and acidic) they are all large predatory brutes with massive power Jaws, tiny yet clawed arms and some form of spikes on thier tail of sorts, with deviljho barbs, anjanath quills and the blades structure on glavenus, plus both Anjanath and glavenus and fire orgin like structures in thier throat, so I think the 3 of them are more closely reatled to each other then they are to any other brute wyverns, I'm not a biologist tho so take what I'm saying with a fair bit of salt
Wow, I never knew Gastodon and Kestodon were actually small Brute Wyverns. This video is amazing!
The mention of migratory Anjanath females made me remember how mildly annoyed I am that we like, almost never get female variants of canonically male-only monsters. Just smaller, faster variants with less extra spikes and such that blend into the environment better. I could see them, as like, a rule, having far faster attacks, and maybe even let some have tools shared with the males be adapted for interspecific defense instead of intraspecific combat, and thus receiving more brutal movesets. Like say, Mizutzune just straight up shooting acid at you instead of doing the whole soapbubble thing, for an extreme yet simple example.
@Aquafis

Look at black Diablos which is a female. Or Lunastra. Both are amazing variants in my book.
I’d imagine that ancient hammer wyvern nests would be a great source of fossils of hatchlings that couldn’t dig out of the tar. Maybe even contributing to how well known they are
"The Barroth can stay cool without much effort." Chads.
One cool detail about Duramboros is that its horns are developed to be extremely heavy so that it can swing its tail without being thrown off balance. Breaking the horns will often cause Duramboros to stumble around after tail swings.

Capcoms ecological chart lists them under Theropoda like you mentioned. Brute, Bird, Flying and oddly Fanged are under Saurischia making them dinosaurs. I don't get the Fanged Wyverns though since to me they're closer to Synapsids at least on first look.
Glavenus and brachydios are definitely related because of their thick and shiny plating and highly defensive forms, making them most likely scavengers and not predators.

I love taxonomy and i really really love to see it in monster hunter, i always tried to understand these monsters taxonomy and now i see this, great! I never really understood the subspecies thing because if the take rathalos for example, the "base" rathalos also has to be a subspecies or at least a different species of rathalos than for example silver rath or azure rath cuz if they are a subspecies this "base" rathalos, this rathalos also has to be a subspecies to distinct it from the other subspecies. For example the species tiger has 2 recognized subspecies, the continental tiger (p.t. tigris) and the sunda island tiger (p.t. sondaica), there is no "base" tiger tho, if there is a tiger it is either one of these subspecies so a "base" rathalos must also be a subspecies of the species that it is part of or it is a dinstinc species with no other subspecies which would mean it isnt a subspecies as this clasification wouldnt be needed.

The games classify them as herbivores, but the official Phylogeny we got in the Rise Book (twitter.com/BannedDino/status/1483853492657737729) mark them as close relatives of the Banbaro. I guess this is a pretty common misconception but rajang and garangolms are actually not apart of the “fanged wyvern” classification but is instead classifed as “fanged beasts”. This includes other monsters like azuros, lagombi, and congalala. As you can maybe tell, fanged beasts are classified due to there mammal like qualities. When it comes to rajang and garangolm, theyre part of the “Pelagus” group that include other primate like monsters like kecha watcha, blangonga, bishaten, etc. I hope this helps
interesting how they aren't related to bird wyverns, this entire time i thought that brutes and theropopd bird wyverns were relatives, hence the VERY similar builds, like sure maybe Velociprey is closer to a bird wyvern like Hypnocotrice but something like Jaggi and other dog wyverns i thought were more closer to the brutes also i always broke the later groups into: . jaw wyverns . sword wyverns . not sure what barroth is to be honest . fist wyverns

@@wonderfulfam2141 ok to roughly explain, classifications like pieces, bird, brute etc, just describe the biological structure of a creature. A brute wyverns typically have 2 legs, no wings, and tend to be aggressive. The easiest way to tell is by asking whether or not a monster is limited to being only on land (for example, you won’t find a kestodon flying or swimming). Being a herbivore just describes what they eat (which usually means they just eat plants). Carnivores mean they eat meat, and omnivore means they eat both. Usually, these don’t have anything to do with describing the biological structure of a creature. So because of this, it’s possible to be a brute wyvern and a herbivore.
