Is MHGU Still Worth Playing?

Ойындар

Is Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (MHGU) still worth playing? In this video I’m going through all the key aspects of the game, from its standout features to its potential drawbacks.
Whether you're a veteran hunter or new to the series, this video aims to provide you with all the information you need to make a thoughtful decision For those transitioning from the more recent Monster Hunter World or another modern Monster Hunter title, it's important to note that MHGU lacks some of the modern conveniences you might be accustomed to.
The hunting experience in MHGU has its own unique flavor, which may or may not resonate with your preferences. So, if you've been on the fence about giving MHGU a try, stick around and let's explore whether it's the right fit for you.

If your coming from Rise or World know that the skill system in older games like MHGU works different. In order to activate a skill you need to have at least 10 points in a skill.

I enjoy playing it. I completely understand if newer players wouldn't want to play it as much because there is a learning curve, but I grew up with MH4U and like going back to MHGU and playing. It sucks that the servers are gonna shut down soon tho :,(

Yeah it's sad! I grew up with Monster Hunter Tri & i wanted to play MH3U. Got it for a few bucks a few weeks ago. Sadly the servers are offline now if i've read that correctly. (8 April, right?) I will take a look at it anyway, if i got the time, but it's sad not to experience it with the online community.

I started with GU on Switch and my older bro started with World and apparently he played bow there so when he came over and I had him try GU I recall him saying how weird the bow felt compared to World and that he didn't like it and would pass on getting the game. I mentioned this story since your comment reminded me of it and how the difference in how weapons play between games can affect whether a person would be interested in older games in the series. Also, Aerial Style Hammer for life.

MHGU just has a ton of content to absorb when playing the game, the game afterall was made as a celebration, a "festival" I dont get much triumph and adrenaline in completion of a narrative like MH4U, but this game is really fun to do with other people, and there are a ton of challenges to take on, a good variety rather than "monster have big damage hit" There are a ton of ways to play the game with the various weapons that have came from the older titles, and the newly added weapon styles and hunter arts, aswell as the ability to play as prowler; my favorite class (boomerang cat armageddon) There is a learning curve, which can be overwhelming, but as most games work, the more you play, the more used you get. My only gripe with the game IMO is that due to the vast majority of content this game has, trying to complete it like a story game, much like the previous games, will be a very sluggish and exhausting experience, oh yea and hyper monsters are ass i hate them (A HYPER DURAMBOROS HAS THE SAME HP AS A WHITE FATALIS RAGHHHHHHHHH) Deviants are hard from the start if you arent prepared, and as you climb the 16 quests that each Deviant has (aside from the G-RANK exclusive deviants), you are given more preperation and time to learn the monster patterns as you go from low-rank deviants to EX deviants. This is why i believe EX deviants are a good challenge, their difficulty is quite artificial but it allows you to apply the knowledge of the G-RANK fights with the risk of getting oneshot if you are cocky enough, the previous quests allowed you to adapt to the monster before the "actual" challenge comes by, with a few extra steps thrown in such as EX Bloodbath stabbing his horn into the ground thrice times rather than twice to throw you off. So, to be honest, MHGU is a great game when you are in the endgame, but it can be a bit well, exhausting at times in low-rank, and you CAN be disappointed if you expect a decent narrative to be made while playing the game, this game was mostly made as a celebration of monster hunter, it is, as i said before, a "festival"

Was looking to play this recently, Started MH3U way back in the 3DS and had played MH4U and MHGenerations as well. I can only say that this games is a keystone title in the Franchise. Just with the Fighting Styles alone, not to mention prowler mode, the content is 2-3x over a normal MH game. If Capcom ported this to PC as it is and do cross play, I bet it could give both rise and world a run for their money.

Honestly though, there's several other negatives. Even as someone who played since PS2, going back to the old games now is extremely rough, as Rise and World have done away with a ton of extremely grating minor inconveniences. Things worth mentioning for newer players coming to this game; - The UI for skills, abilities, and gear comparison is vague and muddled. You'll need to comb through guides to really understand some of the gear and deco mechanics, as they don't do a lot to tell you from the UI alone. - Inventory management is a pain in the ass in these older games. You can't auto-sort based on what you have equipped or by gear category, item category, etc., so you'll need to learn where everything is if you have a stuffed inventory. - The zones on each map are segmented by loading screens, and yes, you CAN be knocked through a 'door' into a loading screen and it is quite annoying. Rule of thumb is never fight near a door. This is probably my largest holdup when returning to the older titles these days, because I feel the larger open maps have been one of the biggest boons to immersion in the series. - Monsters honestly get frightened and run away a LOT more often. Get used to paintballing every other time you engage so you can always track them. Tracking the monster is not a thing in these old games, so if you lose them on the map, you may have to play hide and seek if they aren't in the next area over. - SHARPENING STONES ARE NOT INFINITE! You will need to carry these! - You can't quickmenu crafting, unless I just forgot how. Get used to navigating the menu if you're someone who likes to craft on the hunt. For that matter, you can't quickmenu anything - you have to scroll through your inventory vanilla style. I loved GU when it came out and put almost a thousand hours into it, but going back to it after having been spoiled by the modern games is rough. The first several hours are extremely dull and full of minor monster slaughter and gather quests, and things don't really begin to pick up till midway through low rank 3 when the monsters get a little more exciting. Definitely had my nostaglia goggles knocked off when I revisited this. BUT, despite all this, it's still a really solid game. The loss of QOL, while aggravating, doesn't take entirely away from it being a large game stuffed with content, and when you find a weapon and style that really clicks for you, it's fantastic. Get over the hurdle of the first several hours and learn some of the changes and you'll be able to adapt and have fun, even if you're a newcomer to the franchise. Just, don't expect it to be as easy to pick up and grow addicted to as World and Rise were - it takes some investment.

  • @Aesieda

    @Aesieda

    7 күн бұрын

I think the loading screens and segmented maps add to the immersion. World and Rise force the hunting area to be very localized whereas in classic games, a hunting locale can be miles across. The loading screens sell the idea that your hunter is traveling for a while before reaching the next zone.

I love this game, and every monster hunter fan should play it. It's truly the 'cap stone' game of the older generations, and has just about all the content from all the older games. The only things left out are some of the gigantic bosses where you had to use the environment to take it down rather than directly fighting it. You can solo all the content, even the G-rank monsters with skill and patience. To say this game has an ocean of content is an understatement. It's like having every main line dynasty warriors game in one, and DW8 alone as hundreds of hours of content. You can put *THOUSANDS* of hours into this game always having something new to go after or other weapons to master. This game even has a fully fleshed out Palico mode with as many ways to fight as the cat as there are ways to fight with the most complex of the 14 weapons types. Get this game, it's a no brainer. I got this game for $20 in an E-shop sale.

@@Hunters-Den yeah there are some materials that are necessary for a good quantity of weapons and armors, so i was talking about stuff like where to get bealite, machalite, dragonite, carbalite, Bones as well since the game does not tell you about anything For example Monster Bone L is required for a LOT of items But is only dropped from Daimyo Herm at 19% carve and Shogun Cean at 18% capture, with a 25% break shell for both and a bunch of missions to get 1 bone at 15%, i played for like 20 hrs and got none and i need several for weapons and rathalos set So yeah basically where to find the core material that will be in need by everybody since some are self explanatory

I started with 5th Gen, so I had to relearn a lot of things. It is a lot to adjust to, and I thought I'd never learn, but just take it one quest at a time. There are also a lot of weapon guides on youtube. Gunner in particular is very different. I've been playing the entire game solo since none of my friends have the game, and it does hit that same spot that 5th Gen MH does. Progression, you against the monster. The story is very minimal but the core MH gameplay more than makes up for that imo. For any of y'all wanting to dive in I would also recommend watching Hunters Den's video on Palicos. Gives you plenty of info, and you can just take it one section at a time if you don't want to be overwhelmed by all the information at once. I've also posted a comment there that goes more in-depth about getting the moves and skills that you want. That's a bit text dump but thank you if you've read this. I've thought about getting into multiplayer but I'm a Longsword main and I'm kinda scared I'll just get in the way. I DO go for tails (unless there isn't a frontliner weapon in the party such as GS or Hammer- basically if I'm the best potential face smasher then I will smash the face, if I'm not or there isn't another cutting weapon then the tail is my first priority) but the huge range of the Spirit Combo unfortunately lends itself to friendly fire. The advantage I do have though is that I have more spare time than the average person, so I can probably help speed up farming in LR and HR (haven't reached GR yet). PS- haha recognized the BuJaBu set there at 5:24. (For those that are unaware, BuJaBu is a classic early game mix set for blademaster (melee weapons), with Bulldrome helm, arms, and legs + Jaggi chest and waist. It gives you Attack (L) which is great for going through LR fast. It also looks pretty nice which is a bonus.)

hardest one in my opinion MHFU by faar. this game is the only mh game ever that involves strategic farming for upcoming monsters. because there is always a specific weapon for that specific fight that outclasses every other option this game doesn’t have this magical no elemental weapon that can be used against everyone and outperforms everything else. this game is truly a monster hunt.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but imo MHGU is one of the most beautiful games out there, above both World and Rise and only second to Elden Ring. You always get to look so far into the distance which makes it all seem so massive and the colors are clear and amazing. I think there are not a lot of games that give you such a massive sense of scale, while actually being quite limited. Looking at the Wilds trailer I think they rediscovered that aspect of the games again.
