I started this channel with the dream of making millions and a few online friends. Although I have yet to make my first million, I am proud to have created an active online audiophile community. Unlike other traditional review channels, I designed this channel to give you the feeling of chatting with an old friend. I am fortunate to have made many audiophile friends on my audio journey, and with decades of combined experience, I can give you a unique perspective on the gear I reviewed.

I purchased these. Confirming what other said about being great a low levels. There is also lots of sound stage, the better the amp, the more you get I'm thinking although they sound great running off my REGA Brio-R. I love that they are made of birch and are really quite beautiful The finish is high end and they have nice tone like cello when you rap them with your knuckles. I am one to EQ via WiiM app and these sound good with a variety of presets depending on how the music is recorded. Really fun to play around with. Never yet used the foam inserts BTW. I just don't see the need. Listen to wide range of music. Diane Bish sounds amazing. These are full range speakers. You don't need a sub., so really do help the home decor if that's important to you. One less thing lurking around the entertainment center.
Count me impressed! They sound fantastic! That relative ease in projection stands out for me, as I cannot stand eyeball-scorching PA screaming from speakers! An Excellent assessment, and thank you for posting.
Vidar? More articulate speakers demand better electronics.
ZU DW6 with Superfly upgrade !
Dynamic fidelity is largely ignored by reviewers. I’m glad that you discussed it in this review. For me, dynamic fidelity requires high sensitivity speakers that can provide adequate SPL with 2-3 Watts. Sensitivity in the high nineties is the minimum. This is a prerequisite that also allows for the use of low power tube amps. Real music, listened to in real life, can be shockingly dynamic when compared to systems based on typical low sensitivity speakers.
As before - intelligent video sharing meaningful thoughts.
What is surprising are the mediocre two-penny plastic remote controls for devices sold for more than $10,000.
Very interesting, thank you.
@ThomasAndStereo Hello from a fan from the East Coast of US. Loved your channel and subscribed. I am a fan the smooth and warm flavor of Jazz and classical music and contemplating ordering this one as opposed to a R8 used with Psvane upgrades. I plan to pair it, my first attempt to tube world, with my B&W 702 S2 to replace the Crown XLS 2502 I don't really enjoy. All these seemed to meet your description. Do you see any reason I should not go with R300 instead of going for the used R8? Thanks in advance.
Love your intro and the enthusiasm.
Hello Thomas, with harbeths 30.2 xd? What do you think?
Great review as always Thomas! I really feel like I know what these speakers are all about, gotta get an audition myself.
Interesting: Isolation feet with OBs? The LRS are OB, so this review got me to experiment... I squished some Moon Gel pads under the metal T bracket feet of the vertical stands of my Oak framed LRS (on tiled concrete floor- thick wool rug between speakers). This gives the speaker a damped subsonic (3hz?) frequency "wobble" if poked. Initial impression? I believe I can hear further back into acoustic recordings. Images more detached from the plane of the panels. I find this surprising, since I've long subscribed to the rigid spiked philosophy 😮 Maggies don't fit that idea! Then came Max Townsend podium$... You can buy 10 Moon Gel pads for about $20. Cheap upgrade/experiment! 🎵🎶😀🎶🎵
These speakers are just bad design . The fronts are hold by nothing ( normal an entire box will hold it in place and stops it from resonating ). Without it the entire front will resonate on it's own resonate frequency which is a worse case scenario. And the louder you play, the worse it gets. And there's more like no dampening of the speaker units themselves and radiation of sound from the back of the speaker straight into your room ( which is out of fase ). Same problem like electrostats , you have to place them half way in your listening room and still you will have bad low frequency response .
Wow, you're brilliant. You should design speakers!
@@dougdavis8986 I already do so. It's one of my hobby's.
This is damning
McDonalds French fries, please/ Come to America/ i can tike you to a mom-and-pop restaurant and get fries that will make you cry.
Why aren’t these speakers on the website anymore?
Yes they are
As the comment section fills with colorful comments about the expensive cables, your cable friend's bank account is filling at a much faster rate. 😃
I love your videos! There is a teachable moment at the 4:50 mark, best (anecdotal) case of sighted listening results yet. To compare the sound alone of any two or three items you have to listen level matched and blind. Level-matching may not play nearly as big of a role with cables of course, haven't heard anyone so brazen to say custom cables are 'louder'. I've also yet to see anyone have the slightest difficulty deciding using sighted-listening 'tests' (ahem). You must choose between comfort (sighted listening) or the unmitigated truth (blind). With expensive gear why fool yourself?
I have RF-7 II and RF-83s amazing 🤩
Reminds me of Denafrips Hades...
I hear that this also works on surround sound systems. I have one that uses a set of satellite speakers. Would you recommend a super tweeter for such a setup and if so, how would you connect this? Would you just connect it to the center?
Less echo in the second session starting at 19:53.....now this is over internet...so ....
I think I may have found my new preamp! I LOVE the fact you can upgrade easily and at your convenience.
How does it compare to Pure Audio Project?
These really are special…and so glad that we’re getting your impressions on them. Thanks again for your super comprehensive approach! Wondering how much of a delta between these and the new Caladans by Clayton Shaw at 1/2 the price. Noted that these aren’t just a simple open baffle 🙏🏼👍🏼
I like these but darn is there something to do with low soundstage other than sitting on the floor??
Yes, taller speakers 🔊 Fill room w more sonics
Grandma and her mind-blowing hifisystems, so cool😄
Apparently I'm just getting my feet wet with 2.2 sat/sub, TL & Maggie/Sub systems and satisfied with my music sessions. I just need some audio buddies for the full range, horns and OB experiences... Great review Mr T!
Think ahead, very affordable 👌
Dam, foil inductors, those are expensive and the very best, you don’t find those on $.100,000 speakers. I have done side by side tests with foil vs wire coils and the difference is huge😮
If Open Baffle are so great and even cheaper to build, why aren‘t they industry standard? What is the reason? There must be major downsides? Which are they?
WAF. Those speakers are big.
@@ThomasAndStereo Are you sure this is the only reason Thomas? What about placement? I heard they are Divas compared to closed baffles?
@alpachlavi sure, there must be gazillion reasons why it is not as popular. I cannot speak for everyone since everyone has their reasons. What I think is true is rarely people get to listen to an open baffle today. If people have no experience with open baffle, how can they be interested in open baffles? Magnepan seems to be very popular and they are open baffle. Something to think about. In the 70s, we have speakers with big 15 inch woofers , and today, we have 5 inch small speakers. Is it because 5 inch woofers are better? Someone who has listened to a 15-inch woofer might not agree, but how many people have had the chance to listen to 15 inch woofers.
@@ThomasAndStereo ok, you won. Next speaker I will try is an OB. Thank you
I make new crossovers for these B&W 800 and other B&W models.
you should always demo speakers without other speakers in the room, sympathetic resonance will suck out energy and sound from the source. This is audio 99 level, remedial. I expect better Thomas
I need a bigger house :(
@ThomasAndStereo This has been "De rigueur " since the 70s with Linn/Naim dealer's "single speaker demonstration rooms". They wouldn't even allow telephones in the dem rooms due to their deleterious effects. Now we'll have to take your previous speaker reviews with a pinch of salt! At the very least one should short out the unused speaker inputs to electrically brake/damp the drivers. Happy to hear you've seen the light / heard the colouration;-)
Did you test with a tube amp of certain lineage :-) Noodles at the ready…
The only thing that matters is how they sound to you ~ I wish I lived close by I'd love to bring my records over and give them a spin just to see how they sound on your system ~
My issue with these is there is no place for my cats to sit on top. 😻
Darn, forget WAF, CAF should now be considered for all speaker manufacturer
Damn, I saw the M33 in the list of amps, and was looking forward to hearing about the match as I'm considering the Kef R3, but there are no local resellers and I don't have the opportunity to try them with my NAD
I wonder if i could use field coil driver from Voxative as open buffle speakers...
Only one way to find out.
Are these better than the perlistens s7t since they are similarly priced? Also isn’t Clayton Shaws caladan speakers better than these for only 3k a pair?
The Perlistens are sealed box designed so it will not have that 'open' sound as the Maco speakers. At the same time, the bass of the Perslistens will be stronger. However, you will not have the intimacy of the midrange of Maco, but the Perlisten will be..... you get the point. It is like comparing cucumber to broccoli just because they are both green color, which one taste better? So are these better than S7T, yes for some people, no for other people. Is Clayton Shaws speaker better? Define better? More intimate midrange? Faster bass? More detail? I don't think anyone can say it is better until they try both at home, and these Maco speakers have not shipped yet.
Love your enthusiasm, always! Many thanks for your great Galion TS components, and your very objective, comparative & informative videos. All the very best from Japan, (ex-Scotland).
Thank you very much!
