Very happy owner of the RF-7 III here. For myself, I'm just not compelled to upgrade ever since I bought them in 2019. The giant soundstage and dynamics these speakers throw has to be heard. Capable of high SPL too, those four 10s can make a whole house breathe without really needing a sub.

I decided to purchase a pair of RF7-lll about 3 years ago along with/ Denon X8500H AVR and have not added any amps or any accessories to the system yet… but I can say … it sounds great for not having an amp and more than enough power to fill the entire house with music of immense clarity… so glad I have them… now that I’m 63… it’s probably the last system I will need .. very happy with my Denon / Klipsch system ! Btw… Thomas, your videos are always quite informative… Thanks.! 👍😎🤙🤗

I loved what you said about "detail and resolution"! As our aural senses interpret what we hear, yes, you're correct there are 'musical times' where the blend of the detail, to the extent you don't hear the detail, just the glorious blend. It's music... a thing of beauty, not to measured, just enjoyed.

Have Cornwall III's driven by 40 watts of push-pull 845 tubes and still in love 8 years running. I mostly listen to classical and jazz and find them to be life-like and life-size. In no way shouty or in-your-face as is often associated with horns.

Great video Thomas. I have owned the 7IIIs for a year now. Their break in period is no joke ( and long), massive difference in feeling the pressure even at low volumes. After alternating amplifiers, Bryston- McIntosh, both 100 watt amps, there are differences in mid and bass. The McIntosh has a much lower damping factor, the mids sound softer. The 7s sound glorious.

I have vintage Klipsch LaScalas and Chorus 2. I know the Klipsch sound is the coloring of the wood cabinets. But I decided to brace up the cabinets and deaden the horns with material. I replace tweeters and crossovers. The dynamics, low distortion and live sound is still there but very clean. After hot rodding them and adding subwoofers they are now untouchable for under 10k in my opinion.

I've had the RF-7 III for two years now driven by a Marantz pm-ki ruby and a hifi rose rs250. Tbh, the only speakers that I've heard that I'd consider an upgrade are Sopra's but those are out of my budget. Absolutely fantastic speakers for the money. They are so, so much better than the Klipsch's RP line.

I've owned the RF7 III's for about 3 years and they amaze me every time I play them. The soundstage is vast. The guitar strings and vocals at the mid range are very life like, detailed and present. I have them paired with an Emotiva amp at 300 watts per channel. I would love to hear them paired with a Mcintosh amp. Great video! I always wondered how much more I would get with La Scala's. This has answered my question with bass. I can't imagine spending $17,000 a pair and still having to add subs for full dynamic bass. I'll stick with my RF7 III's for a very, very long time :) :)

LOL. Love how you went out in the field for the review! I have to agree, Klipsch give me Emotion more than any other speaker I have demoed or own, which are the Sonus Faber Lumina 5. Klipsch aren't as detailed or present the music with as much separation and clarity (although they are clear) as much as the Lumina but they have that Emotion, and that immediacy where the music just comes out as if no drivers were there. My Sonus Faber's have an extremely low distortion rating and it is apparent when you really dig into the volume and it gives so much clarity, Klipsch on the other hand I feel can totally fall apart when pushed to high volume because I believe their distortion is too high, but then again, they are so efficient that you don't need to crank it up too much anyway; a Klipsch volume level of say 2dB is probably for the average speaker like a 70dB or more. Seriously, Klipsch is one of the Best for low level listening! Their voicings have greatly improved over the years so much so that I am really considering trading in my SF for a Forte IV or maybe the RF7 III. They really pressurize the room well, this is something my SF doesn't do too well but if I decide to keep them I will need a few subs.

Extremely happy to see you talk about the speakers as I was one of the people that commented about what you were talking about and an owner of them. Enjoyed it overall but I wanted to hear a little bit more deeply about different aspects of the speaker besides just the bass, and note more comparisons to other speakers. I feel like most the video kind of revolved around just the bass , but we didn’t really get to see too much more deeply about some of the other aspects of it that you touched on slightly, like soundstage is it 3-D how big is it? How wide is it? What genres of music does it excel in the best? What genres does it lack in? How is the decay build quality and just all the other audio file terms you usually use to describe a reviewed speaker you do. I’d love to see a part 2. It kinda didn’t feel like a normal review video say as many other speakers you reviewed. But hey man, I still very much enjoyed you taking a little look at the speakers, and was very appreciative of it. Thank you. Yes I agree. The speakers do bass very well but certain genres of music they like much more when it comes to bass as am I a bass lover, so that is why I paired My four Rf7iii‘s two in the front two in the back and My centers in Rc64iii with a JTR Captivator, 4000 ULFLP. Door 18 inch subwoofer tuned to 10.5 Hz oh buddy Thomas I’d love for you to hear that system as man do you think you know bass but until you’ve heard something like this it’s hard to fathom I Power my front stage with a parasound A31, and I will be setting Dolby Atmos speakers up soon as I use the system for home theater and music. All the rest of my rears, and soon to be Doll B atmos speakers are powered by an anthem MRX 720. And I stream from tidal I don’t use any room correction mainly, I listen to music and Dolby surround with the spread option on but from time to time I will listen in two channel and also all channel.bits hard to sometimes be so over critical of my speakers because of things I read or hear on the internet. Like my speakers really lack in mids or are not nearly as detailed or as not information in songs compared to the heritage line or the soundstage is not. 3d. It’s soy silly to let things like that Take away from your sound system. Because I’m reality I am so blessed to have what I do and sometimes I just let things like that get to me and I find myself not enjoying listening to music as much. Now I have casted away such notions and I will refrain my mind to not let church things deter me and how I listen to or enjoy music. You said to have some tissues ready If listening to the lascallas. Man after casting away the negative outside influences which is really just me being to critical? While listening to the song you said you demoed I let tidal play a mix based off that song and I cried. If you’d like to know some of the great songs I think you’d love that we’re in that mix lmk and I’ll enlighten you. Gosh ig if there’s a lesson to anyone out there reading this do not let yourself fall into that trap. We’re all humans and we’re not perfect so sometimes you might but remember to remind yourself what is important and that is what you’re grateful for and what you have and not what you don’t have. X

The speakers brands I loved the most were Rogers and Klipsch.....and there was many brands to listen to but certainly not exposed to their best most of the time. Since then my feelings haven't changed, even if others brands or different conceptions styles came to my knowledge. Now you have two different Rogers companies, the "original" in the UK , which produce the famous LS3/5A speakers but also a tube amp that is never tested in the medias.....you should ! Then there is also an American manufacturer doing only tubes amps....never tested as well....and you should !

When I first got my LaScalas the bass was not really there so I picked up a pair of subs which helped. Moving around the room you could definitely hear that there was much better bass in some areas but not in the seating position. The subs were positioned like your friends subs in the photos. Much better than without subs but still lacking. One day I was looking at pictures of speakers and came across photos of Forte IVs and it hit me, turn the subs around to make a modular Forte LaScala hybrid. OMG it worked. I can walk around the room and the bass is amazing. I hear bass on many records that never seemed to have any. I would not describe it as heavy but more like it is flowing all around you. And it goes deep. It took very little time to achieve amazing results. I wound up with the front of the sub right at the rear of the LaScala. It really is mind blowing what a difference it made.

(So not worth) Now the sub are back in the front, placing the sub in the back is a good idea but I will have to bring the la scala closer. I’m afraid to lose some sound stage but I will try it. Maybe the Solution is to reduce the sub size… For now the main advantage of the sub is for the electronic music and a little bit more presence overall. It doesn’t improve the mid base (freq over 100hz) in these area the biggest impact have been to introduce le gallion or the Bruno amp. Can you tell me what are the amp you use with your la scala?

@@ebonneau1 I’m using two SVS SB1000 pro Last night I played Fading Sun for the first time, at moderate volume, shelves were vibrating at the opposite end of the house. Move your LaScalas closer so you can squeeze the subs in on the sides while also reducing your toe in. If you gain the bass as I did and maintain your sound stage all is good. If you gain bass and lose staging then you can look for smaller subs. If it doesn’t improve bass then you had fun being an audio nerd 🤓😊

I’ve heard many speakers from $35k and down from KEF, Perlisten , Focal, Magnepans, Martin Logan’s, Revel, B&W and Paradigm. Also sone Wilson Chronos never considered because they are way out of my price range. I decided on the Klipsch RF7’ III’s and I went back and listen to some after I made my decision and I tell you what, I made the right decision. Granted I didn’t get to audition any of them in my own space and gear but the RF7’s are everything I want and need.

8:26 Hey T&S nice channel. Instant Sub for me. Funny to hear you rate “basement level”. Never heard anyone else use that terminology. That’s what I was saying about the sound from the new Grado cartridge, I installed on my 80’s Mac rig. Almost 3D- reaching through the floor, (is what I thought). So cool. But…may have pushed the old mid divers too much. Time for a re-foam. Heck, they’re almost as old as me…😂 As far as Klipsch… phenomenal, from my experience. So fascinated by them. Started with The One BT speaker for a family room iPad job. Very nice. Love it. Then, before I went the vintage receiver route, for a office listening spot, I took a flyer on The Fives. Wow, they do it all. It’s all there. “The skin of the drum”, as you say. Now, I’m set up 2-3 feet away and not filling a big room. But, I didn’t expect to be so completely gobsmacked. Can only imagine those RF7’s cranking out some Hip! 🇨🇦🍻

I have a theory.. when people listen to live performances, they are likely listening to a PA system often using horns. I believe that is why people find the "live sound " familiar and also why so many people like klipsch.

  • @JamesWilliams-gf8gm

    @JamesWilliams-gf8gm

Ok I will bit. When you hear a live band down the road around the corner the sound is unmistakably live. It is not frequency respond as that is all messed up, not sound stage, not integration, not timing as that too can be recorded… it is dynamics. No speaker can truly replicate real dynamics. But horns get closest. Good horns really don’t honk (caused by defraction back down the feed throat) as that has been fixed years ago.

The RP line and even the RF-7III just doesn't deliver that live sound to my ears. It's missing some of that midrange magic I find in the Klipsch Heritage speakers. The Fortes are way too sensitive to placement; if you put them too close to the wall you get boomy bass; if you put them too inside the room the bass goes away; you really need to invest hours of experimenting with that distance and toeing.

The one caveat to my ears the Bass was not meaty it was there just not strong. I found them at mid volume to a bit lower I could enjoy them regardless of lack of meat. I was recently floored by the 5's and understand the 7's are even better. But having, I think I've mentioned some of this before, maybe. As I have 3 receivers well that rules out the 5's or 7's. My samsung Q950 11.1.4 sound bar has a flatter response than the RF7 III's, my Polk Reserve speakers have a flatter response than the RF7 III's.... which speaker do I listen to the most, my RF7 III's. At the end of the day, GR Research is also a salesmen, and you can find a flaw in almost anything. One thing to note, is if your ears are at midwoofer height (the dang speaker is so tall, that when I'm seated on the couch I'm well below the tweeter) there actually isn't a midrange dip that is pronounced, maybe 2-3db at most. Considering the imaging and Soundstage the RF7III's offer, what that translates to, when listening to live music, is a layering of depth in the sound stage, the singers are further away, the drums are closer, the guitar is somewhere in between. Nothing is soft, just feel like staggered distances... quite a unique sensation and sense of realism. The long winded paragraph can be summed up in the following, they're a perfectly imperfect speaker, don't die on the hill of searching for a flat response. I aware of that video for a long time so I did pay attention. I have been voicing and measuring speakers recently too. The 1 khz dip, perhaps that is the reason why I hear a 'smooth' midrange. This 1khz area, I had an interesting discussion with a musician and music mixer not long ago and if she could, she would eliminate it with her equalizer during mixing. I would just say this, you might enjoy this speaker the way it is, or you might prefer it with the GR fix. You have to listen to it to be sure.

Enjoy your V8 manual car, especially while the electric tesla does it all technically better.

Glad you mentioned this. Some people like the colored sound produced by removing parts of the midrange (just look at the popularity of the smiley-faced eq), others want natural and accurate reproduction of sound. You just have to decide what is best for you. For me, these are a hard pass, but not everyone will agree.

I've owned the RF-7 and Cornwalls for a few years and like them both for very different reasons. They behave very differently based on the amplification type and power and components hooked to them. I got the RF-7 as part of my surround system including the massive RC-64 center channel and rp-8000 for rear surrounds. In this capacity, powered with a fat warm amplifier with lots of current flow (talking class AB here), the RF-7 can be amazing, as in really amazing, but hook them up with class D or a receiver - forget it. As stereo speakers, I find the RF-7 can be quite good also, given you pump some serious dB out of them. It's as they get better and more integrated the louder you play them and I think they will outperform anything else Klipsch makes in their regard. This however is not their best use, their best use is for hard hitting Dolby playback. Obviously the Cornwalls, Khorns and LaScala have much more detailed and prevalent midrange and I also love that type of sound also. I do prefer the looks and geometry of the RF-7 over those other heritage offerings and the RF-7 is less footprint. The La Scala was a speaker I always had an interest in, but just couldn't get past the lack of bottom end, even though those can be some of the emotionally engaging speaker ever with certain types of music and amplification. I also always felt the LaScala LF cabinet was not that good of use for it's volume. For example, you could place an 18" direct radiating woofer in there and get massive deep bass to compliment the HF hornes. I think the LF horn may have been a cary over from its industrial application, i.e. to protect the drivers. Anyway, the only mistake you can make with the RF-7 or the heritage line is incorrect equipment pairing. Spend some time messing around with the setup and it will pay off.

Thanks T. One other important note about all of those Klipsch discussed, is that they will sound quite a bit different after a couple hundred hours of moderate to heavy use compared to fresh out of the box. They get much smoother with use. Also, when you actually look at value based on the quality of the drivers (something that matters a lot to me), the woofers on the RF-7 are much higher quality than the woofers in the heritage series. Seriously, the woofers in the Cornwalls, LaScala and Khorns are like $50. The first thing I'd do with the heritage series is upgrade the woofer to a high end pro driver costing a minimum $300/each. I may do this with my Cornwalls at some point when I discovered that they couldn't keep up with the drum speed on a track from Metallica. The RF-7 have no problem with this.

I’m sure they sound good, but at that price point I also expect great styling, and those are UGLY. Fine for a home theatre I guess (although at that price point, why not go for the much sexier KEF R11 Metas). I would never consider them for my living room.

If the horn sound is what you’re after, sure, but I would go for the Heritage series any day of the week over these. They look like the type of speaker you have when you’re a teenager and have no taste in design, lol.

4 years ago I bought the Klipsch RP600M because the hype on KZread was so high and they were only 300€. I was disappointed from day 1 to day 700. I don’t get it. They sound so dull in the midrange and devoid of life. I would like to audition higher end Klipsch speakers but they’re out of my price range. Some day I got a Google ad for Closer Acoustics OGY speakers and I bought them. And I have been happy since.

@@ThomasAndStereo I love the analogy! I prefer Wendy’s. In my opinion the Q Acoustics 3020 run circles around the Klipsch RP600M. It’s not a technically better speaker. It’s just a different flavor. Anyways, the OGY may as well be the most underrated speakers out there. Only Jay’s Iyagi reviewed them and the response was shy. I can’t imagine a better a speaker under $2k.

Then look at the Forte iv. Classic look, and great sound if you have the right room, positioning. And, I use an ART 30 band equalizer to tweak them along with a few other things which audiophiles would be critical of, but it works well.
