WildKiwiAdventurer

Hi I’m Chris,

I am an adventurer traveler showing my lifestyle, the incredible places I travel and the things I experience through the art of video.

Order my Autobiography: www.wildkiwiadventurer.com/product/the-boy-from-gorge-river-signed/

I grew up in extreme isolation at Gorge River on New Zealand’s South Island West Coast. My family live 2 long days walk from the nearest road in a place that is as stunningly beautiful as it is rugged. We live as sustainable as possible by growing a huge vegetable garden, catching fish and hunting for most of our food.

Since leaving home when I was 17 I have set out to explore the world in constant search of new places to explore and things to experience.

This has taken me on an incredible journey from teaching extreme survival skills at -40°C in Antarctica, sailing across the arctic in a small yacht to looking after 300 Alaskan husky dogs in the dark Arctic winter

I love your comments!

Regards Chris

I came to your house when you were a baby must've been around 1999. Morgan Sexton was our pilot and I remember bringing some groceries and leaving my yoghurt. Perhaps you got the yoghurt. Really enjoyed this video thank you.

Amazing country! Amazing family! Your story makes it possible to think “I’d like to do that!” If I could do the 40km’s to Gorge River, I would really love to try. I am in my 80th year, my partner a few years younger. So maybe we’ll seriously look at that.

Hei, too bad that you didn't find the way to get up to the ridge after the climbing cabin. You were actually too far down by going to the cabin. The traverse goes straight up in front of you after descending Styrmannstinen. You ascent Zapffetoppen (actually called Hollendaren on norgeskart.no) by staying on the ridge on the left of a narrow south-west gully. Then, just before reaching the top, you have to traverse the gully and climb up on the right to make it to the top and find the ridge that will bring you to Store Blåmann! Great vid and hope you'll get to try the traverse again 😉

Very helpful video. I do have a couple of Smith goggles as well. What is the most suitable VLT for the goggles? My Smith goggles can be switched if needed. I have a lens with 12% VLT, (for very sunny days), 35% VLT, and 60% VLT (low light). On your video, I think the closest match to what I have is the Green Sol-X Mirror (12% VLT).

Hi - I came down the coast to visit you guys about Jan 2001. You were about 8 yrs old and we fished for guppies off the rocks for lunch. Really enjoyed staying a few days. Later your dad rowed me up the Gorge and I tramped up over into the Cascade and out that way. Had to packfloat two of the gorges - nearly succumbed to hyperthermia in one of them that was a bit longer than expected. Great adventure though. I know this is a bit late - but thanks for the clip - brings memories to life. Cheers

Should NOT be encouraging fat tourists to ANTARCTICA. Sooner or later they will bugger it up, just like all other tourist destinations...........

Does anyone know why they put their head all the way down while standing up? Are they looking at the snow, looking at their stomach feathers or communication something to their fellow penguins? I think I am as curious as they are lol Thank you so much for sharing - they are beautiful!
