Hi everyone, I’m Christan Long!
I am an adventure traveler who grew up as a part of The Long Family of Gorge River. We are the most isolated family in New Zealand. We live 2 days walk from the nearest road on the South Island West Coast, between Haast and Milford Sound.
Mum has lived at Gorge River with Robert Long since 1980 and has raised my sister and me in isolation, living 2 days walk from the nearest road. We are known as New Zealand's most remote family.
Mums Garden at Gorge River is one of our main food sources and many hours of work go into this garden.

The best kind of gardening. Very natural. Returning to the earth and harvesting the bounty. Thanks Mum for allowing us in to share in your life.

Meet Robert and Catherine back in February after tramping in from the Cascade. Got invited in for a cuppa and a yarn. Lovely hospitable, interesting people. The walk in took 8 hours so didn't beat your time of 6:50 Chris but maybe next time, thanks for posting these videos

During our younger years, remember my father used to plant vegetables and fruits for our consumption. For compost/fertilizers, we used carabao dung, used to gather them put it in a sack/bag and bring it back home. Thanks for sharing this video, brings back memories. Living now in Christchurch NZ, originally from The Philippines (Southern Leyte). You should visit Southern Leyte! 😀

Your mother said that the only rubbish you take out is plastic and some types of metal i think most metals break down over time especially if buried and go back into the ground where metal originally came from in it's natural form.

For Mum and Dad they are very good at that. Dad lived there for 10 years by himself. However we do get a lot of visitors too, hikers and airplanes and helicopters.
