I'm a fan of the dub, and was wondering how it could've been so bad it failed in Japan. The animatiins are done so well and it lends itself to being good. Aside from the script of the dub it almost felt like i was watching a japanese Scooby Doo. Which you would think would be successful. It makes alot more sense now that I know it was.

Who said Hikaru was named after Sulu? Sulu wasn't given the name "Hikaru" until 'The Entropy Effect" novel in 1981. His name was just "Sulu" on the TV show. The name "Hikaru" was only incorporated into Star Trek VI in 1991 because Trek novelist Peter David was on the set that day.

That was an assumption I made and ran with not knowing anything beyond cursory information about Star Trek. This video was kind of a transitional era for my videos. I make sure to avoid making bold unsubstantiated claims like that in my newer videos.

You know, I'm pretty against the grain in this. I think the part 2 designs worked pretty well to communicate that the dreamy illusion of Tokyo was dead. It's mentioned in part 1 that the population is under a bit of a hypnosis to convince them they are living in 80s Tokyo paradise, living lives seemingly more fulfilling than they actually are. Shogo in part 1 is not an 80s action hero. He is a part time McDonald's worker who uses a motorcycle to try pick up girls. BD is not the comically evil smirking slimy military man that Shogo's perception sees him as, but is someone forced to take drastic action to try to salvage what he can from a no win war. Yui does not actually have blue hair.

I just looked up the voice cast and yes Nagisa is voiced by the same voice actress as Rosemary in Metal Gear Solid 2. Her name's Lara Cody. Incidentally, she also voiced opposite Wendee Lee in Streamline Pictures' dub of Dirty Pair Flight 005 Conspiracy.

We know it was dubbed in Miami. The voice actors were never credited but some of the voice actors have been identified and many are bilingual having more prevalence in the Spanish VO/dubbing scene. I know one of the voice actors was also in that Mexican cartoon Villainous.

Idk if I’ll receive a respond, knowing the video is one year old, but I’m making a personal project or hobby to collect the manga, and film version of my favorite shows, like Mazinger z, space battleship Yamato and space pirate Harlock, and a couple more for the future as we’re slowly loosing a lot of old shows that we’ll never get back, but a problem I faced, especially with space battleship Yamato, is that I can’t seem to find the original series as it’s film version, seeing you have clips of it, did you find the og version, if so where did you get it so I can get the series as well, and do you know any websites/places where I can find the original shows, and its books so I can buy them? Thanks if you respond and also for those who help as well

7:36 To add on to the VA trivia, from Battle City onwards, Bakura is voiced by Rica Matsumoto, the Japanese voice of long-running Pokémon protagonist Ash Ketchum. This change was made due to unfortunate circumstances. Inoue was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2001, and later passed away in 2003.

Man, who would’ve through that Zambot 3 was meant to be the serious one, while Daitarn 3 is funny. Tomino already showed his fangs very early on man. I admire him for the guts he has to incorporate so many mature & dark themes in his stories, through I never being a big of killing members of the main cast

Some of the clips and rumors floating around about this anime actually finally convinced me to go watch it. Honestly, my wife and I are only 3 episodes in and the off-the-rails dialogue does make the show enjoyable. It's almost like watching Team Four Star's version of DBZ Abridged, only instead of an abridged series, this is the whole series. I wouldn't mind seeing more projects like this, especially if a studio could be bothered to release an official dub that was taken seriously alongside a more or less ad-libbed dub that was just fun for the voice actors to do.

I never watched "Ken le Survivant", but I watched "Nicky Larson", and wow, it was bad, really bad, the dialogues made no sense, the censoreship was really weird, there is an episode full of love hotels, and they are called vegetarian restaurants, even though we can see naked women in gentleeman company. Then I learn it was a very bad adaptation of City Hunter, I watched CH and it was way better. What you said about AB production is true, the company is infamous in France for how cheap it was, even their live action shows used the same sets and actors, some scenes were even filmed on the studio parking lot. But aside from that, France has cultural protectionism, and Japanese animation was seen as a cultural invasion, hence why the CSA was so strongly opposed to them and would find any excuse to prevent diffusion or apply censorship. And finally, their was familial conservatism, especially with Ségolène Royal, who to this day still continue to try to ban mangas and animes for their violence and the bad image of women it gives. Nowadays she isn't taken seriously, considering all the blunders she did during her political career, but during the 90s, her anti-Japanese standing was strongly followed. My parents didn't want me to read mangas due to this, I had to hid to read them when friends would lend them to me. Ironically, this happened at a time when our President was very found of Japanese culture (even though he did some blunders himself, like detonating a nuke in Polynesia for Hiroshima anniversary in 1994...) Funny thing now, recently, a French movie name Nicky Larson was released. I didn't want to see it just because of the name. But it turned out to be a good movie quite faithful to City Hunter.
