I literally just started reading it a coupe weeks ago and I'm on chapter 70 something. Completely caught off guard by how compulsively readable it is. Unfortunately, it's coming at the expensive of making progress on the other series I'm reading, but still I'm having a lot of fun

Id be fine with one piece having 1000000 episodes if it instead of pirates it was about a mecha show about war between earthlings that live in a victorian age and a highly advanced civilization of moon people, where moon boy discovers an ancient mecha, directed by yoshiyuki tomino, with mecha design by syd mead, music by yoko kanno and character design by akiman

Chris Sabat's voice performance as Zoro began in Speed Grapher. And he's been using that type of voice ever since. His current Vegeta & Piccolo sound totally different from his early 90's & 2000's acting. Sabat recently played Souther in the 2006 movie which leans more on his boastful demeanor. Sort of somewhere in between Alexander Armstrong & King Vegeta. Luci Christian is top notch. Nami probably has her best range in anything. I did like hearing her back in ADV with Princess Tutu & Shadow Skill. Colleen Clickenbeard sounds natural nowadays although whenever there's a vintage flashback she'll purposely make herself sound younger. In her early parts with Luffy, some of her feminine voice will slip out mid sentence. Surprisingly, Sonny Strait sounds consistenly the same from the start to present day. Don't really have a problem with Eric Vale but I haven't really heard him in anything else aside from Future Trunks.

They´re not fake op fans just op live actions fans. I myself got into one piece or just anime in general because of my frustration with the "mainstream" media . All my favorite shows going right down the shitter one after the other Arrow, Flash, all the CW shows in general just went insufferably woke. There was also GOT that went down that route the only show that went that route and pulled it off was Black Sails imo.

Regardless of the direct reasons that the anime started to suck (animators transferring to other shows), what I truly blame Toei for is short term thinking and making outright bad decisions. (The fact we seem to be getting a second shot at the long-running anime apple with the new anime reboot is mindblowing and not something anyone ever expected or should have expected, so let's ignore its existence since it wasn't a factor for any of the fans nor decisions made at the time.) I say this for several reasons: 1) The anime started out immensely strong. I won't say it was perfect, but they had great directors on the show from the start who, among things, gave us the Walk and the real emotional scenes. Between the opening song, soundtrack, voice actors and actual animation, they clearly had an incredible team working on it that seemed to really love the material. It was probably better than a new show by an unproven author deserves. 2) When Toei realized they were gaining on the source material, they should have started to plan for more filler. I don't like the mess that is the meaningless Naruto fillers, but for better or worse, it was a great decision that did the show as a whole a lot of favors. They could even have included more source material from the cover stories, but unfortunately the very first cover story they adapted didn't do so well, so they stopped trying to adapt those. I think that was a bad decision: they needed breathing room. But because they wanted to keep the sunday morning time slot and refused to do fillers, stretching is what we got. 3) The fact they decided to stretch out scenes instead of adding filler means they ended up with less fans buying the box sets. I considered buying the box sets at one point, as I caught up with the show around Enies Lobby and I was a mad fan. But when Thriller Bark and subsequent arcs were just endlessly slow, I decided to not buy the box sets. I'm happy to support a good product, but I'm also a completionist.. and I just couldn't excuse spending the money on dvd box sets when the contents for a considerable part of its run were something I just didn't feel were worth it. In hindsight, I am even more glad I didn't, because Amazon Lily upto Dressrosa have shown just how utterly bad it could get! But think about it: for a long-running show like this one, where people might want to buy the box sets and collect all of it given how popular this show is... would not want to invest in the show to make sure the long term sales of box sets prove to be worth it? Short term gain ruined the series. 4) And this was made worse with the way they ended up investing their resources after shuffling animators away to other shows more and more. Five second pan shots of crowds that don't move and aren't remotely on-model are simply not fun to watch. I don't give a damn about those few seconds for a final attack that look utterly gorgeous when most of the other animation in an episode is non-existent. When most of the episodes have no good animation with characters not being on-model and the pacing sucking ass to match... is there anything worth watching left over? 5) Almost forgot: they also went crazy with the recaps. Sure, I get that this show needs a recap, but you don't need recaps that last more than 3 minutes, nevermind those lasting half the episode! It just screamed laziness. And to be clear: I don't mean the animators were lazy, but that Toei was lazy and not interested in putting out a good product. It was the mentality of 'people will watch/buy regardless'. I think that the hardcore fans who actually buy box sets deserved so much more than what they get for so much of the shows run. Also, this next one is going to be slightly personal, but there was the argument when they switched to the Wano art style that the One Piece art style was hard to animate so they did this to offer a better experience. Fine, I get that they needed to update their workflow and that they had someone really invested who could update things using their existing experience working on that Dragonball movie.. but I also felt it was immensely insulting. Remember when we switched to digital HD after the G-8 arc? It was well-animated and it looked good, and it managed to look that great upto Sabaody. Maybe it looks a bit dated compared to the flashy effects of modern anime, but it looked _good_. The trash that Toei had been putting out upto Wano wasn't because the art style itself was bad for animation, but because they dragged all of their talented directors away and let what I presume to be an understaffed and overworked B-team scramble to meet their One Piece obligations. I still love the way the anime looked during the Water 7-Sabaody era, and I just feel that bad management caused the art style to get the shaft. Wano's art style never looked like One Piece to me despite its colorful and flashy sequences, and I cannot help but wonder how it would have looked if the old style had been given the chance to evolve to the new era of animation by people who were very talented at making it look good. Long story short: Toei was really shortsighted for a huge part of One Piece's run, and that is a damn shame that will haunt what is probably going to be the most canon animated adaptation of the series. (I have no clue if TOP is going to be good or how closely it will follow the manga, so I'm just not going to make any assumptions in that regard.)

I personally stopped using One Pace once it hit wano as it was approaching to be 2 years behind the release and the episodes of one pace had hardly any edits so it was just flashback central w/o the bumper its a shame really, it seems like the latest episodes have the least amount of effort put into them and you are going to be lagging behind 100+ episodes Edit: as someone who has watched up to Thriller bark on TV as it came out (and got localized) i would say that the pacing becomes a major issue around the time thriller bark happens, its almost unwatchable EditEdit: i wish one piece would hire an audio guy because the mixing is terrible in every episode and they reuse the same music and like 5 sound effects just thrown in there, i honestly only watch it at this point because i have been watching it for 20 years

I spent the summer of 2015 learning what one piece actually was and attempted to watch it from episode one to getting caught up, not understanding things like filler and what episodes to skip. I got to the point right before dressrosa, almost caught up at the time, before my brain couldn't do it anymore. I'm aware the manga has more merit, so I'm only talking about the anime when I say it was grueling. Mostly because the "Previously On" and "Next Time On" segmeents took up over half of the runtime of the 21 minute episode, combined with reused animations and long periods of people just yelling out what they're doing, meaning that in the middle of arcs youd have some episodes with maybe ~4 minutes of new content. I watched some of the movies, which I couldn't give a good critical analysis of because I was a teenager, but they felt awesome because things were happening without needing to stop dead in its tracks and show me the same thing over and over. I love One Piece in theory, and I hope to give the manga a real try sometime, but god almighty is the anime on its own soul-draining at times

I am not a One piece fan, I am a Dragon Ball Z fan.....I try to rewatch original DBZ, it is exactly as you say. So much inner episode filler to pad things out, people talking (many are not even watching the action) then 4 minutes of a fight happens untill next episode. Same again...I do not have time for that as an adult, as kid that was coolest thing.

One piece doesn't have a filler problem though. This is why those segments took so much time, they gotta pad time out so they dont overstrip the manga without using the "filler" as its understood in anime. and yeah it sucks lol you really shouldve just dropped anime at like Marineford at latest and just go with the manga, actually cant believe you stuck w it till Dressrosa no wonder you're exhausted im just impressed you didnt drop dead at like halfway point
