SerpaDesign

Hi I'm Tanner! I am an artist, designer, photographer, nature lover and DIY fanatic. My passion is to bring nature indoors and share my projects/ideas with others.

The focus of my channel is to show how I use nature as an artistic medium. If you want to make a beautiful, long-lived terrarium or a bioactive vivarium, then this is the channel for you! I go in-depth on every topic, teaching you exactly how and why I do what I do. I also push the boundary, in hopes to create some of the most unique projects you'll see on this side of KZread.

Some of what you're doing here is painful and i wonder if the intention was just some advertisement and content as opposed to a genuine interest in the hobby and the quality of the life given to those animals. No QT was conducted (and your actual QT wont work, disease will linger in all that rock and substrate), your pouring solution directly into the display tank, you never cycled the tank and you did no water tests (the later was a recipe for disaster). The list could go on but as someone who has literally just finished the cycle on his first tank i could see the problems you'd set yourself up for... i wont be adding corals until the tanks at least 5/6 months old and the biology and water has settled. Freshwater is terrible forgiving, water parameters are easier to maintain and involve little "wet work", if the intention was purely content then i hope you pulled the tank down because one has to devote a great deal of time to have a successful reef tank.

1:58 LMAO Tanner's blip into existence 2:08 as the profile pic for the channel killed me. Honestly I think the cameraman is at least half right; I think it'd be super cool to see you proudly in front of one of your beautiful setups as the official pfp - but I think his point was actually the clear look of joy / relief / happiness in your expression exactly at 2:03, as that's typically my expression while watching your new uploads haha. Love the art Serpa, you're killin' it!

Damn, first tank and he gets one of the masters of Coral to give him everything he needs.... sick life!! You should really be QT those livestock though, and dipping the corals. If you get something in the tank and realize a week down the line its too late, you could end up stripping down the tank and waiting 3 months before you can reset the whole thing up again. And you should have cycled this tank for at least 14 days (regular testing) to ensure the nitrogen cycle was complete, kinda mean to force the fish to suffer and you could have wiped those corals with fluctuating water parameters. Edit- Seen your catch up video, everything above came true lol

This is really beautiful, thank you. I feel like I learned a ton about the actual process of making a terrarium that a lot of narrated videos skip over or don't show -- the details of taping it out, of cutting the glass, all that. Gorgeous and informative (and brought my blood pressure down, lol).

I think what some adults and parents don't understand is that just because an animal is smaller than a cat or dog that doesn't mean they're easier to take care of. Reptiles and amphibian pets deserve to live spoiled, happy, comfortable lives, just like we spoil and take care of our cats and dogs. If someone (parents) gets a living creature, they need to treat it as such and not like a toy or a prize. I think amphibians and reptiles, and small rodents, require more work because they deserve to live in a comfortable and nice enclosure with everything they'd have in the wild in their environment (except predators). So building a completely new environment and ecosystem is, in my opinion, more difficult and much bigger responsibility than getting a cat or dog. You are amazing at building these enclosures so these animals can thrive and be comfortable. And you treat everyone, even the littlest of shrimps with respect and love. Which is beautiful and rare. And on top of all that responsibility, you film everything and share it on KZread. Thank you.

I'm so sorry you lost some of them. I feel like you love these amazing creatures so much, like most people love their cats and dogs. Thank you for sharing this story, it must have been hard to experience plus having to edit and watch back. You are an amazing pet parent. I love watching your channel. Also, I love that you put the ones that have passed away into house plants. It gives them a second life to be nutrients for the plants. 😊
