I make beauty and fashion related video three times a week.
I mainly post about eyeshadow palettes, do lots of Essence and Catrice reviews and I love focusing on what I have rather than the newest of the new. I have fair skin with a cool to neutral undertone which heavily influences my makeup preferences. I try every shade in every palette I buy and I do regular shop my stash videos to rotate through my collection and try out new products. Single products reviews go up on the blog, so check that out if you are looking for closeup swatches and what things look like on my face. In terms of fashion, I mainly love to experiment and focus mainly on fun vintage items and good wardrobe staples for petite (I'm only 5"!) apple shaped body types.

Man, that was an era. Very inconsistent quality within one palette too. Yet i still got mine. Makes me crave a video swatching them 😊 After those we were all over Zoeva too

I also owned quite a few Sleek palettes and I depotted then and repressed all the same/samish colours as the pans were quite small. Have decluttered most since with the exception of an excellent orange shimmer, as I discovered the much better quality of singles by Sydney Grace etc. And I like the idea of recycling old footage with new thoughts.
Was it the orange from the sunset? One of the best oranges ever that was!
@@FloatinginDreams Yes, I believe it was. It was only when I depotted that I realised how many shades were duplicated whitin these palettes. Good Girls was one I wanted really badly, but never was able to chase one down.

Hi Maaike it’s a lot😂, but I’m glad you enjoyed so many of them. I have bought two palettes this year so far😂- the ND Xenon and the Rom&nd darker one that made your top ten. I just haven’t been that excited about buying eyeshadow lately tbh as I enjoy quite a few of the things I have. I’m also liking a simple eye look with cream or liquid eyeshadow just now, but no doubt as the Winter palettes start to come out I will try a couple more😂. The cosmic brushes palette is still on my wishlist and I will probably buy that next, but I’m not someone who buys a ton of makeup in a month anyway. Best wishes x

Hi Maaike I’m always amazed that people expect content creators to change how they do things to fit them, rather than going to find someone else who is doing that type of content 🤦♀️. Making a suggestion of something you may like based on products you have loved using previously (without the expectation you will run out and buy it) is a bit different. If I ever suggest anything I always say to get a sample or try it on counter first, as there is always the chance you won’t like it as much as I think you might or as much as I do. I also would not be offended if you didn’t try it as it was only a suggestion in the first place. Not everything you love is something I would love and vice versa. My skintone is different and I am extremely dry skinned with both rosacea and eczema, so products perform differently for those reasons without even factoring in differences in climate. It’s always going to be a best guess how something you love might work for me and the reverse is true as well. Even watching a hundred reviews of an item will only give you a best guess how it will work for you tbh. The suggestion of brands not available in multiple countries is a very niche market and I can understand that they will not get a huge amount of viewers to those videos. Usually there will be videos on youtube for those brands by people who live there and can access the products very easily. Why then expect someone who would struggle to get the product to review it? That doesn’t make sense to me either. Best wishes x
I think some people ask because they trust my opinions or because they want me to try something they love too. It really comes from a good place.
@27:06 I know we're all different but I have a hard time picturing people waiting for you to stop everything you have in your plan to try their suggestions and come up with feedback. I believe you when you say it but it's so bizarre to me to think this way. I'm purposefully watching your content while I don't have the same skin type, the same skin type, and same tastes when it comes to eyeshadow color stories so I wouldn't know what to recommend (I like to follow different creators that "fit" different styles I appreciate and can get inspiration from). And even if I did, there's no strings attached. The only exception I can see is if someone gifts you products and even in that situation, you can take whatever time you want to try things out. In the meantime, I'm patiently waiting for your feedback on the Klarity palettes you bought recently 😅
Nope that is literally how some people interact with content creators. They want you to cater to their every need and then give you flack for having too many products. You can never win in this game.

I feel like I’m the only one that doesn’t like the futurism palette color stories 😭 but their packaging is stunningggggg I just want the empty palettes 😂
I'm a bit confused here. I heard you say multiple times that this channel is not a job, it's a hobby. If it is a hobby, why care about the algorithm? Do whatever you like and don't feel the need to explain why you do or don't do something. It's your life, your channel, your hobby. I have a suggestion for a tea time chat, though 😅: planning content months ahead vs. being more spontaneous. To me, you come across as a very organised person and I admire that a lot. I guess I'm just curious if all this still feels like a hobby if you do it in such a structured and organized way. Again, it's just a suggestion, please don't feel you need to reply or explain why you would/wouldn't talk about it.
Great suggestion! And you have to care about the algorithm if you want people to watch your videos. YT is too saturated to just post things into the void. Also, the way YT shows you stats is designed to push you to grow your channel. So you are constantly given reminders of why videos don't perform well and what you can do to get more views. Even if it isn't a job, you can't help but be triggered by those things.
I hope nobody actually expects you to buy everything your audience recommends. It is quite unrealistic. 😅 Off topic: remember when we sent you the photos of our collections? I thought of it the other day, maybe we could do it again? It was very fun. My collection certainly changed.
Also, I think I was the one mentioning Art Deco but not for the eyeshadows 😆. I agree their eyeshadows don't seem to be worth it. I was mentioning the lip gloss (which really does work for me).
Guess what I am planning to do for eyeshadow palette month this year? ;-)

Availability, accessibility, compatibility and pricepoint are major points I considder when making purchases. And yes, there are definitely brands that I'm not interested in, like Art Deco. And especially with foundations, I do like to feel the formula and test the shades before purchasing online. And no Maaike, you are not our personal guinea pig to test and try everything we fancy. You know I value your opinion above most others, but I don't expect you to buy foundation X, that will not work for you, to satisfy my curiousity.

The new Glossgods palettes remind me of the Kaleidos ones. Nothing new has caught my attention, I have a list of palettes that I want to try so I've been slowly picking one up every now and then
Yes that is def a sensible way of going about it!
4 mins until the start of the "battle" but be forewarned, there's a whole lot of rambling and the palettes have been rearranged (if you're looking to see them as you'd be buying them).
Which is why there are time stamps and image overlays of the original palettes.

Hi Maaike as you know I am extremely dry with rosacea and eczema. I recently bought the Dior lavender powder to replace my Hourglass ambient light powder (it is loose rather than pressed btw). It has a similar glow on the skin and applied lightly with a wispy brush (which is how I always apply my powder) isn’t drying on my skin. Lavender is fabulous on pale cool toned skin whereas pink is better on more neutral or slightly darker skin for brightening. I recommend trying it on counter first before spending the money though if you haven’t used lavender powder before (I had previously used the canmake pressed powder in lavender a few years ago- it’s less glowy than the Dior). I think any powder applied with the very popular puffs or a more dense brush can be heavy or drying on very dry skin, but just a little with a wispy brush is enough for me to “set” my makeup and not be dry/cakey. Hopefully that helps. As to the releases I have the cosmic brushes palette on my wishlist but none of the others are. Best wishes x

Hi. I have dry mature skin to. Try the Givenchy loose translucent powder. Its really finally milled and not cakey looking at all. You really only need the tiniest bit. Always tap a bit off on your hand first before applying only where needed

I just got the Cosmic Brushes Nudetrals and Cooltrals palettes and love them both. Great purchases! I passed on Nomad's Florida Keys palette as well, but I did pick up Davini's Current$ea palette. Never tried them before so fingers crossed their formulas work well for me.

Hi Maaike I don’t own any of these palettes, but the palettes I would immediately replace are: Dior silver backstage Dior cool neutrals backstage Viseart cashmerie Catrice diamond lavender 5 in a box Viseart cool neutrals Viseart lilas quad Zoeva en taupe That’s the immediate list that comes to mind for me (probably because they’re my most used palettes I own😂). I have some others I use occasionally that I would like to replace at some point later, but I could use these for a long time before needing the others tbh. Best wishes x
I love powder and keep buying them - even though I have dry skin. Still looking for the holy grail finishing powder or powder foundation that works on dry skin. Anyone have any recommendations?
