    I guess to get a balance in between for true middle grey with the grey card then you would lay it flat on your table and get a reading from above. If the range is outside both sides of the Instagram then you would need to exposure blend

    @DanCantero This video is seriously outdated and, as a consequence, gives incorrect and misleading information. In any case, it's not so much about tethering but rather about editing in Capture One. Moreover, there are claims and suggestions that are just plain wrong. Most importantly, @0:38, the presenter immediately prefaces the whole tutorial by stating that Capture One does things "a little bit differently" to LightRoom, namely that Capture One does NOT save the captured image to your in-camera card, only directly to your computer. This is, of course, nonsense in terms of the current software. For a Sony A7R5 camera at least, I can confirm from personal experience that Version 16.4.3 (downloaded 24/6/2024) has a number of options as to where the image is transferred and stored: 1] RAW------------------to Capture One (as directed by software options on computer) 2] RAW------------------to Capture One---------------RAW to card 3] JPEG-----------------to Capture One---------------RAW to card 4]JPEG------------------to Capture One-------------JPEG to card Transfers of RAW files to the screen can take marginally longer than JPEGs of course (1.5--2.5 seconds perhaps, depending on your equipment). For all practical purposes, JPEGs will appear instantaneously on your screen. How long RAW files take to get to the card depends on its type and how fast your card writes. The speed to card becomes more or less irrelevant if you use the Capture One screen mainly to check focus, exposure, and compositional structure rather than perform any kind of complex editing during a shoot. And one more small thing which arises from Dan Contero's commentary: You CAN use adapters, such as those for changing a USB-C plug on the tethering cable so that it fits into an older USB-A receptor on your laptop or PC. The trick is to make sure your adapter is rated to carry the data at the same or higher rate as the cable, in the case of TetherTools, generally "up to 10Gbps". I am using 10Gbps plug adapters (cheaply obtained on Amazon) as I write this to capture a screen shot of Dan to my computer using Capture One. And just to confirm, I can see the RAW file on my camera as well as I have elected to happen in the software. And I think the statement that "ANY" USB cable is ok is questionable to say the least. It's generally recommended that USB charging be turned off during tethering. In any case, tethering cables need to be able to carry data. A dedicated charging cable does not allow this. There are cables that carry charge and data which might be suitable but since charging should be off, these are unnecessary. Whatever cable is used, it must be rated from 5-10Gbps. Now, I don't care what LR does or does not do, especially given the recent issues with Adobe software terms and conditions maladministration, but if you want a program to do any more than Capture One currently provides in relation to tethering then you might be asking too much!! I don't work for Capture One or any subsidiary, or any retailer of the software. I own a perpetually licensed copy and I'm happy to promote a product that ACTUALLY does raise your workflow game. Why this kind of outdated content is allowed to remain online purporting to be of use is beyond my comprehension. The take-away has to be: take care with who you choose to obtain your working information from!

    Greetings Dan from your newest subscriber! Excellent video and perfect timing for my pending decision. I shoot the Leica Q2 Monochrom exclusively as I'm a dedicated BNW Photographer. I've used Lightroom but since starting with the Q2M, I've learned that Capture One does a far better job with Dynamic Range and Tones of a Leica Monochrome DNG file then Lightroom. Now with Adobe's latest BS ToS changes I'm thinking this is the time to leave Adobe for good and focus on getting the Capture One Pro "All In One" package so I can edit on my iPad Pro 12.9 as well as my MacBook Pro. Your insights and experience-based views would be greatly appreciated 🙏 🙏 😎 ‼️

    I totally get where you are coming from. In my opinion, the way that C1 can pretty much do everything you need. (And I think it renders a nicer images straight out of camera) The new ToS from Adobe even has me thinking of jumping ship. If there was a proper alternative to PS for doing my composite work I would have probably already left if I'm being honest. That sense of loyalty I had for Adobe is almost gone and I hear this from other photographers. I've not lost hope that they will fix their approach to their clients but it will take a lot to gain that trust back. Nice to have you as part of the channel. Dan

    WARNING!!!! Do NOT use these poles on anything but concrete!!! They are extremely powerful when you swing the lever to secure them in place, and will push through just about anything other than concrete... do not risk it in wooden, fibro, drywall etc etc. I have seen them even crack besser blocks. It is not worth the risk of damage.

    In this video, I'm going to show you a much better way to set up your lights without having to set up a light stand. The method I'm going to show you is ideal. If you work from a small photography studio or a home photography studio where isn't a lot of space. Light stands are great but they take up a lot of room in a photography studio so I’ve got another solution that works much better than using a normal photography light stand. Here is the gear I talk about in this video Variable Pole amzn.to/3Vi8og2 Extension arm amzn.to/4c0Rf1G Super clamp amzn.to/4aVYwyo Better still, I'm going to show you how mounting your lights this way. Get rid of not only the lights stands, also, all of the associated cables with it. If you follow the instructions that I'm gonna show you in this video, you are going to be able to claim back a large portion of your studio. The best thing about this method is that it doesn't cost a lot of money compared to the cost of a normal photography light stand. Hey! Sorry for the late reply. Since making this video, this process has been made easier. Perhaps it's time for an updated video! The answer is yes you can just copy the catalog to your external drive and just unplug from your old computer and plug into the new computer and you should be good to go. Just make sure to not rename the drive or any other change like that. Hope this helps. Dan

    The interpretation of your raw file comes down to the used profile. I bet you did not pay attention in lightroom and just used Adobe standard or some similar garbage what most people do. I select my profile in camera and already fine tune my look there and then set lightroom to just take that over which is not possible in c1. So your whole comparison is nonsense. Please get familiar with setting the right profile settings in lightroom.

  • @DanCantero
    @DanCanteroАй бұрын

    You are 100% right. As I state in the video, I was just checking the products as they come out of the box. For professional work I would not use either product with their standard profile. I use a custom profile built for every job and lighting situation. If you do this, either platform works well and it just comes down to interface and features.

    There are some real gems of advice in this video. Allot (also) depends on location, socio-economics in a particular photographer's location, and competition. I believe I have split the difference in pricing models and use a one-hour session with up to three "selects" for $110. I shoot tethered and allow the client to pick his/her favorite three images. Since I am a fairly quick retoucher, this level has worked as a once balance of value vs. time.

    Welcome to my latest video where I explain a technique that allows me to photograph a subject and get 2 identical images with a different colored backdrop. And more importantly, I do this without photoshop. The whole thing is done in camera. This has lead to more sales because I have multiple versions of the same photograph to offer my clients. Yes, I know that I can change the color of the backdrop in photoshop but this means that I don’t have it ready to show my client during the reviewing of the images. By having the image ready to show them they often purchase both versions. This has lead to a 30% increase in sales in my business and it can do the same for you. The best thing is that this technique is super simple and once you set it up you don’t have to touch it again. I hope you find this video useful and I would love to hear back from you if you implement this in your business. If you do please let me know if it works out for you as well as it’s worked out for me.
