    So the written test for the sports pilot license is that the same as any sports pilot license? So if I want to transition to a two seater Quad city challenger is that a rating? But the same license? I plan on buying a two seater powered parachute in the future. But I also would like to transition to a fixed wing aircraft. and have both in the future

    @@EasyFlight Sorry I couldn't resist making a snarky comment. A college acquaintance of mine in the mid 1970s was killed hang-gliding. He obviously did not have the experience to know when conditions were unsafe and he didn't survive a crash from 50 feet up. Don't get me wrong, I can see the appeal, not unlike motorcycle riding I guess. Powered or unpowered, ultra-lights are just too dangerous for the average Joe in my humble opinion. But to each their own.

    That doesn’t mean that PPC wings don’t collapse. I recently saw a video of a PPC wing collapse due to a tension knot on takeoff. Just like paramotors it’s usually poor preflight or pilot error. There are many different Paramotor wings and skill ratings. The wings we fly on our trikes are very stable and very resistant to collapse. Not a fair comparison and poor timing in my opinion.

  • @EasyFlight
    @EasyFlight2 ай бұрын

    I haven't seen that video. Besides, my point is more along the lines that if you do everything right with both a powered parachute canopy and a powered paraglider canopy, the PPG canopy is still more prone to collapse for the reasons I stated while a powered parachute canopy is not.

Could I fly over all of them above 1000 feet above the highest structure to make it 10 miles to the beach?

    @@EasyFlight Easy, that’s not an answer, how much is life worth? Everyone plans for safety hoping it’s never needed, everyone trains to avoid mistakes and “accidents” but building in procedures and practising them hoping they are never needed. If your logic were true, no seat belts or airbags would be fitted to cars and there would be no market for Cirrus aircraft (which have a lot lower probability of being used). I consider Ballistic Reserves cheap! I used to ask students how much a broken leg was worth in dollar terms to avoid. Never had a realistic quote, lowest was 6 figures.

THERE HASN'T BEEN A DEMONSTRATED NEED FOR THEM, and they are more expensive to buy and MAINTAIN. I don't fly with broken arms so my reserve will always work. Well at least get deployed....

    @anthonyburke5656 You are chatting with the guy that wrote the most valuable ppc book ever. You skipped over the part where he said that "there hasn't been a demonstrated need for them". Feel free to spend extra money on stuff you don't need but this isn't a question of safety. He would know.

  • @anthonyburke5656
    @anthonyburke56562 ай бұрын

    @@Jo-xk3pk Jo, did you not read my response? To “demonstrate” a need requires the risk to crystalize! It’s then too late! Every safety measure there is should be, in an ideal world, superfluous. Did you see the “accident” that hospitalised Anthony Vella? Was it a 1:100 or 1: 1000 or 1:1,000,000. In any of those instances, I’m fairly sure he would prefer to pay the money to the hospitalisation (although, in that instance a ballistic chute may not have worked). Point being, in terms of money, almost any amount is worth avoiding the injuries, just in saved medical expense, without counting pain and suffering, or, lost income, or, reduced capacity from permanent disability!

    When there's a strong wind or a draft from temperature change it can lead to a partial collapse on a powered parachute. And that's completely different from a full collapse that you would see on those incredibly quick paragliders. And on a powered parachute the collapse will fix itself essentially with no intervention.

  • @Jo-xk3pk
    @Jo-xk3pk2 ай бұрын

    @user-mt1uw8ks9c He's saying that you don't fly in the middle of the day. There's no dice rolling or I wouldn't own one. PPC is limited to under 10 mph wind at ground level and 2-3 hours after sunrise and before sunset unless it's cloudy. Thermals are not your friend. If you follow the rules PPC is the safest way to fly. Not to be confused with PPG that is not very safe. 99% of the crashes that you see are PPG( powered paraglider) Ppc is powered parachute. You have a backup parachute for ppg ppc doesn't need one because it is so safe, and is an open safe canopy before you leave the ground

  • @user-mt1uw8ks9c
    @user-mt1uw8ks9c2 ай бұрын

    @Jo-xk3pk ok, now it is pretty clear. You mean there is a window to fly it, and even if the wind is calm and the weather is clear, it is not good to fly outside that window. So in the summer, for example, what is the hours you avoid taking off and landing?

  • @Jo-xk3pk
    @Jo-xk3pk2 ай бұрын

    @user-mt1uw8ks9c Yep. In the summer on a sunny day you would be limited to 2-3 hours after sunrise and 2-3 hours before sunset. Cloudy days you can fly all day. You just need to avoid low clouds. They have a tendency to drop down and become fog. I had to land in a field once because of fog. There are tons of great weather apps to help you avoid that though. I say 500-600 feet is getting too low. Gusts are more of a concern than steady wind, and it's kind of a pain when the wind is rapidly changing direction. It gets choppy and it usually takes a go around or 2 if you are looking for a smooth landing. You are watching the right guy btw. He's very well known in the PPC community.
