Roy, thanks so much for your hard work. I wonder if you agree that under the proposed rule, at least a basic med medical would be required by section § 61.23(c)(3) to fly at night with a driver's license. After requiring all the additional training and experience, it doesn't seem logical to require a sport pilot to get a medical. I can't imagine how that would make night flying any more safer that day flying. Rick

10:28 Just like in your last video, the FAA doesn't known its own rules. Any CFI-SP with a Private Pilot rating - who are the only ones who can give training for people seeking a PPL with a weight shift or powered parachute rating - would meet those requirements when the final rule is published. The whole reason why that was in the 2004 regulation was because they didn't want to modify Subpart H and PPL was the lowest certificate that required night training and thus could give night instruction to someone seeking a PPL for those ratings.

What if you've already had the night training previously under your medical/PPL and are now flying under Sport Pilot rules?

FAA’s proposed requirements for sport pilots to fly at night appear reasonable.

I'm not looking to fly at night. But it good to know how to fly at night if necessary. Also, wont hurt to learn some IFR.
