Hi, lovely talk. Thank you . I just wanted to let you know that in the many books I've read on the subject by historians like Ruth Harris etc , that photograph you have shown at 3.05 mins is cited but not as not Bernadette , but a group of other child visionaries in the region which is often cited as a historical reference to the frequency of visions seen by children in rural areas of the area. Apologies if you knew already but you did introduce the photo as ' Bernadette and a crowd watching her..." That is definitely not Bernadette Soubirous.

Oh! I needed this today on Saint Joan's Feast Day. My first trip to Paris included a stay in a small Marais hotel named for this Saint! It was the Grand Hotel de Jeanne D'Arc. It was a former convent. I took my reservation as a "sign"!

This lecture video is definitely the best introduction for beginners to the life and throught of the great saint and doctor of the church. Its better than the many available introductory books about her and her works.

My takeaway from this talk: theology of Vatican II was and is so unsuccessful in practice, that we don't any right to criticize Catholic Action.

The conversation was very interesting, it started out by saying there is this divide between the people in the Church who focus on the eucharist and those in the church who focus on social justice, not even so much catholic social teaching. They stress that this divide is unfortunate and then spend pretty much the whole time saying that those people who focus on the eucharist but do not focus social justice are not correctly experience the Eucharist and they need to change to be like the presenters. In other words there is a divide and for the divide to be healed you need to think, act, and believe like I do. There was no appreciable discussion about the people who do participate in social justice with no grounding in the Eucharist and how they are also missing the fullness of the faith. There was great concern about weaponizing the Eucharist but no concern about weaponizing catholic social teaching in support of one political view. Denying communion to those who are in favor of killing unborn babies was thought to be inappropriate but denying communion, in the 60's to those who did not integrate schools was an act of great courage. By the way I do think that both killing babies and segregation are wrong. I hope (one of the theological virtues) that in future presentations in this series the presenters take a more balanced view and when discussing a divide, as they were today, either get people from both sides of the divide on or at least be reflective enough to take a more nuanced view than my side of the divide is correct and the people on the other side of the divide need to come to my view.

9:18 Two problems in the juxtaposition. 1) When the pagan saw a god, he saw two things. a) a mover that was not glued along the zodial to a moving heaven-vault, but went full circle around the zodiac, independently of whatever moved those stars; b) a being that had its origin in other things than the creative act of God on day IV. Only the latter of these is false. 2) When we "see it for what it is" you mean both a) a creature (what you referred to directly so far), and b) many Christians today would rashly add, an inanimate one moved by only inanimate forces. Only the former is true.

Well worth hearing this talk! Embarrassing to think how often those of us living in relative comfort can take the reception of the Eucharist at Mass for granted. I only wish there was a link to the handout posted here.

I've never reads Rahner, but the sentence that continues "…, thus" from 7:46 and concludes at 7:59 seems like it could be very Rahnerisch. I will have to take a break from the video and ensure I understand ethotic polyvalency in both maximalist and minimalist constituencies...

Someone please please send Dr Pitre Dr. Petrie you are an intelligent, blessed teacher I I heard you pray to Mary I searched and there is nowhere in scripture where God anointed Mary to answer prayer come on now I know you are more intelligent than that search the scriptures look at Acts 2;38 and obey Acts 2;38 for your eternal salvation depends only on Acts 2:38

Thankyou for this presentation and others intend to view. I am an Oblate in Canada however due to circumstances, I am connected to the Benedictine Daughters in the Divine Will. They were living in Italy and now in USA recently. It's a blessing I have daily communication and listening with the Benedictine Sisters and Priests via video, radio, podcasts, cenacles and email. My local Pastor heard my commitment and he is also very devoted to St Benedict. My prayer book comes from Glenstal Abbey in Ireland. This was very nice to connect with an Oblate today!! God bless and peace today and always...Fiat!

It’s a pity the words are so muffled owing to the mic not being positioned correctly. However it did pick up the voice of the delightful youngster in the audience. ❤️ Just a thought to help in future. I’m retired and would be happy to take the script and type up the actual words of the lecture so the subtitles ( at one point ‘Islamic’ came up for Aslan for instance!) we’re spot on. Again just helpful feedback. I’m grateful to the work you all do-& for the commentary of the youngster. All the best. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not just young people are uncomfortable with assertions made by humans about who or what God is, older philosophical agnostics are reasonably sure that no human can know any such thing. Theologians overlook our manifest human limits and that they share these.
