This might sound off topic but, in the anime Violet Evergarden, set in a time before telephones, Violet's role is writing letters for those unable to do so. After the telephone was introduced, her job isn't rendered obsolete; instead, it becomes about conveying emotions onto pages, especially poignant during wartime when letters can be cherished for decades. For instance, a dying mother writes numerous letters to her daughter, to be sent each birthday thereafter, creating a lasting connection. This illustrates that while technology may alter job functions, the essence and significance of certain roles can endure.

My thoughts before watching the video: Technology doesn't kill jobs, it just lessens the amount of physical labor that one has to do on the job by automating the repetitive tasks, while creating new jobs to perform maintenance on the tech.

I think the biggest challenge is we need more education as the years go by to make up for the more advanced lives that we have. I'm pro for that in many ways. But tech is replacing jobs much faster then we can retrain people. And the older people get, the more they don't want to do that. Its stressful. And this pace is growing faster and faster. And now as of the last couple of years, we have learnt that its the 'brain jobs' that are at most risk. And as good as robots can be at doing a single task, nothing beats the human for more complex tasks. So I think the future will be everyone will work in the sweat shop of Ai/Machines. And we wont get a good life doing it. So think about the sweat shops today. That will be the future of humanity. Clap Clap.

I'm confused, Elon warns of a decrease in human population, Yet He strives for advancement in automation and AI that would decrease the number of people needed. I personally thing there are too many people and less would benefit every other living organism on the planet. lol.

My mom was trained to write on a typewriter diagnostics that a doctor was saying live. The idea is that multiple people would do it so you end up with multiple copies. It's a job that stop existing when with the invention of printers on computers I think.

Of course, it does, but with new tech comes new jobs, but those jobs are getting more complicated. So not only are we losing jobs to automation and AI, but the IQ needed to do certain jobs get higher. The future is definitely scary.

I don't think tech will kill jobs but AI 100% will. In the past, automation was just a new tools that still required a human operator (in most cases) but when AI gets good enough, what is the need for "human middle man"?. Physical jobs will still be around but those will still be limited and 100 years ago there were way less humans on earth. And frankly not everyone can be a doctor / high level engineer or suitable to be a nurse. I know I am not.

  • @user-jw6yh4ev4n

yeah you[re right - but AI is still tech just more advanced. SO yeah, tech will eventually kill pretty much all jobs - including doctors and nurses.

Backblaze is a crappy company. They promise "unlimited" backup but once certain threshold crosses, they intentionally throttle the upload speed. Stay away from cheats in the name of Backblaze. In my case once it crossed 1TB, the upload speed dropped to 10 Mbps. Though my upload speed was 100 Mbps. And the speed tests in their website consistently showed my upload speeds can reach 40-50 Mbps.

Streamers' jobs aren't guaranteed either due to AI. Ukraine has the very first AI representative to report goings on in the government, so it's not a far stretch for a company to start producing AI streamers to saturate the streaming marketplace and force out the small streamers just trying to get into the industry.

If the loss of meaningful work incurred by the increased automation translated into decreases in work hours but a maintained living condition (as would be the case in a communal living situation), then there would be no issue with automation. But capitalism can’t allow for that

Once the mass unemployment starts, tax revenues collapse and people stop paying their rent and mortgages, they will most likely ban AI in most jobs. Just look at how they are now trying to ban self pay checkouts because companies aren't hiring workers anymore. They could go the other way and introduce basic income and make everyone basically retired to enjoy life witb cheaply made everything by machines, but they would never allow a societal shift like that.

2:45 as someone who works in telecom, the buildings that housed this equipment are now abandoned and sometimes haunted. its so eerie walking through a massive 6 story building with little to no windows that have moldy walls and droopy ceiling tiles... then you find the server rooms which are still maintained well. The amount of jobs lost to automation in telecom is nuts.
