Hopefully Apple will put some serious resources to back the longevity of Apple Vision. I did try Google Cardboard once, but in all honesty, felt like a paper launch.

IIRC, BlackBerry 10 was an RTOS based on QNX, which coincidentally was in a large number of cars at one point. It wasn’t widely accepted as a platform for a litany of reasons, but the core OS was advanced.
@evilbred974
2 ай бұрын
QNX is/was used in alot of behind the scenes critical systems. Unlike Android, Linux, or iOS, QNX is a microkernel OS, which means each application running on QNX has it's own kernel stack working for it. Applications on a microkernel OS are extremely isolated from each other. Everything from process calls through to the application is running a bespoke thread for that application. This creates more security since there's far less attack vectors to move laterally between applications based on shared memory usage, or spoofed resource calls. It also is more stable since an application that crashes is not affecting other applications using the same kernel stack. TL;DR QNX is/was a really cool OS from Confidentiality, Availability and Integrity perspective. It just didn't have the needed market penetration to get an application development ecosystem sustaining like Android and iOS did.

Smart referencing the 787 and not the 737 max 8 or 9.
Any chance y'all could do a comparison to some keyboards like the Wooting keyboard and Flux keyboard?
How well would this work for watching high-quality films? Or does it?
The R1 chip is most likely some kind of FPGA+NPU with some low performance CPU cores for coordination (basically an ASIC but that is way too broad term). This combo can handle massive amount of data for specific tasks. This is how modern video/photo cameras work. The main CPU in cameras is extremely poor performance basically it runs the software for the UI and controls the ASIC. The image processing (lut, distorsion correction, etc) and compression is done by ASIC.
The headset slows down time, that's where your 3500 goes!
While the headset is a really cool concept, it's still a bit on the everyday unwieldy side. I still don't see this becoming a less than luxury item, or a expensive gadget for the average owner until technologies like, transparent Oled's become a real, average consumer, technology. Better than relying on the massive battery requirements to artificially relay an image to the screen, and overlay things onto the world would make it a modern tool similar to a smartphone today. Add in tools like assistants, and find a way to minimize the requirements for spatial tracking, and this could be something actually revolutionary. As it is now, it seems more like a proof of concept. A cool idea with potential, but will need to be heavily iterated on, engineered and optimized. Apple has the budget to do that, and thankfully doesn't drop projects left and right like google.

Video from the cameras won't need it -- whatever head movement you make, the cameras pick up that real-world movement and display it as-is. As for the video overlays? I suspect high-sensitivity accelerometers and gyroscope sensors sent to the R1 to calculate "positional space" and "orientation" and passes that data to the M1 chip for rendering.
