    I've watched a bunch of vids on the Zoom H1 and H1n over the last 48 hrs and this is hands-down the best overall. Excellent presentation and some really useful snippets of info I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. Perfect both for someone looking to buy and also for someone like myself who's bought one and wants a quick tutorial on how to get the best out of it. Really well done. Keep up the good work!

    I like that right from the jump you showed how the recorder sounds and how it sounds in different distances, with a windscreen, without a windscreen, etc. Most of the other review videos people just babbled on about details of the recorder that no one cares about.

    Fabulous Vid!! I just got one yesterday and put it thru some testing. I made aufio wav files and put them into my pc via Maschine Mikro Mk2. I was amazed at the clarity and great tonal balance that you could hear good bass in voice. It was even better than my go to studio mic I have been using! No sweetening of the voice recordings were needed at all. I then added vst drums and bas and also tried a ping pong echo setting and WOW I was impressed!!!! This is a fantastic little recorder!!! I bought the accessory pack for it that has a poofy wind sock, a mini tripos, a handle thingy to put slide it in to a mic stand, a real nice case with attachable hand strap, a power plug, Its half price for 24.00 usd at Guitar Center. But now I see I need a shotgun mic after seeing your vid! Thank you soo very much for your incredibly easy to follow vid! I am subscribing!! Take care, and stay safe!!

    By far, the best review on the Zoom H1n, your review answered most of the questions :) Thanks for making it more informative. Question : Can I use this as interview recorder for 3 to 4 people sitting on the same side. Keeping the Zoom h1n at 3 ft away?

  • @HenryBaring3

    @HenryBaring3

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think it could work with some editing, but the sound does get less clear as you move back in my test at 2:35 so it's not ideal. Here's the raw unedited audio file from 3 feet away: drive.google.com/file/d/1OTBTXgs513v3RKXB_8RFe-fUiEHCCTHw/view?usp=sharing See what you can do with that file (edit the audio) to make it sound better, and I think that will be similar to what your interview would sound like from 3 ft away.

    Love your video! Great info. Clear and concise. Question: Is it possible to use the built in stereo mic AND an external shotgun mic like a Rode video at the same time? I want to use the h1n to record two people (podcast style) and not have to pass the h1n back and forth (although I do have a shock mount and tripod mounted). It works OK as is, I just would love to have my own mic to use versus sharing with my podcast partner. lol

    Bought this to record rehearsals of my garbage punk band. It's amazing! There aren't a lot of H1n reviews on recording live music but it works great! Fiddle with the gain knob to get the sound you want. 3.5 works great for loud rock. Any higher and you'll get clipping from drums

    Good and correct settings. Thank you. Voice inside: Just do 80 Hz cut. Voice outside: 80 Hz cut and a dead cat. Yes, the limiter could be used outside too, but sadly it increases the noise floor quite a bit. Never use the auto level, unless you're in a war zone or something. Musical instrument inside: All settings off, including the 80 Hz cut. In most instanced 48k with 24 bit depth is recommended. Go 96 kHz if you _know_ that you're going to put the audio through a lot of effects editing, reverb, and so on in post production. Otherwise stick to 48k. Do not record in Mp3 unless you're recording airwaves for very long intervals, and by that I mean at least two to four hours. Otherwise record in Wav for best quality.

    Awesome review and packed with useful information! The overdubbing part is what interested me most though - I am wondering if I can use it to record vocals but I need to load the track from my DAW so my vocalist can hear it using headphones while he records his vocals - can this be done?

  • @HenryBaring3

    Good question! I'd assume that you can overdub while using the Audio Interface into the DAW on your computer, as long as your application supports overdubbing it should work.

    The review is great, but the background low frequency "music' during the clip nearly caused me a seizure and I couldn't watch the clip to the end. When you tested the mic, I wished you tested the mic and its audio-only, and not added extra noise. The info I gathered until 2:50 was great and I thank you for that. I had to stop the clip at that point.

    I have a question - My friend and I recorded ourselves playing music and the H1n was maybe 40-50cm in front of us, pointing between us. The sound quality was great, however, my guitar and my voice were mainly heard on the right piece of the headphones/speakers, and her voice was heard mainly on the left side. Is there anyway around this? Maybe the placement could be better? Could it be edited later? Or maybr it is just best suited for one sound source rather than two? Thanks!

  • @HenryBaring3

    @HenryBaring3

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey so what I'd do is copy the audio in your editing software, then make the guitar/voice track have the right channel be on both L and R, and the other voice has what was originally the left channel be on both the left and right. That way the Left and Right channels are both equal in both sounds and it's not that imbalance like you said. It does eliminate the stereo aspect but it should fix your problem in editing. To fix in recording you could try moving the mic around or backwards to get a more even sound profile but if it results in worse quality then the way you have it is probably the best 1 mic setup. Hope that helps!

    Would you recommend the Zoom H1n as a microphone for streaming or should I look into other mics like the Blue Yeti or Samson G-Track usb mics. If you have any suggestions I'm looking into one that is a usb mic and is made to cut out background noise because my set up is in my living room.

  • @HenryBaring3

    @HenryBaring3

    3 жыл бұрын

    So the h1n will def work for streaming, but bc of the directional stuff I talked about at 1:26, it'll pick up stuff like your keyboard taps and rustling clothes. The blue yeti & g-track both have options where you can select more focused audio patterns (i.e. cardioid) in addition to wide ones. If u want 1 mic to do everything including streaming, h1n is great, but if only streaming & worried about bg noise, i'd say yeti or g-track are better fits
