Ultimately, trusting in the gospel is what matters for God to see us and allow us to to dwell with Him in heaven, but I see the point Piper is trying to make; Putting more hope/joy/gladness in things other than God is a recipe for disaster. Nothing else matters to our eternal selves more than what Jesus did for us on the cross, so putting joy/hope into other things more than that reality is futile.

"We fight for joy...." As one who has lived a lifetime with clinical depression, Jesus is my Joy of joys and makes life worth living; even when buried in the darkness of this awful disease. Thank You Jesus for Your love and joy and the presence of Holy Spirit.

What cured my depression was being of service to others. A servants heart. Gets you out of yourself ❤

I feel the same way. I listen to some of his sermons over and over. The Holy Spirit has helped me mightily through John Piper's sermons. I learn so much more from his expository teaching style. I think he is the greatest theologian of our time.

I love how passionate John Piper is about sharing God's good news! God bless!

I felt exactly the same way when I listened to John Piper for the first time. Since then, listening to Piper's sermons are a big part of my daily devotions. I listen to some of his messages over and over. There are tens of thousands resources on his website. Desiring God

Thank you Holy Spirit for leading me hear this beautiful, comforting, hopeful sermon. I agree with all my brothers and sisters' sincere agreement in spirit and soul that is our Treasure above everything. Help us all to love passionately as John Piper, so we can be one with him to be sorrowful , yet rejoicing....

Many will disagree but Give it all to God... my feelings and emotions are not for me but for the Lord God.. because we are commanded too. He is your provider, protector and comforter. Sadly many won’t understand this. Delight in your Lord God.

I've been a Christian for 2 and a half years now and listened to a lot of sermons, and this is one of the best I have ever heard. The message being communicated here is so beyond needed in today's Christian world and I needed it myself. Really have come to appreciate John Piper more than back when I was young

No matter how many times , I watch this sermon, it still hits me at my heart and brings me tears. “Take it I get jesus”

John 3:16, for God so loved the world He gave His one and only son that whoever BELIEVES in Him, will NOT PERISH. Not believing in Him is what will lead me to perish. Understanding that God so loved us that He gave Jesus... is what leads me to delight in Jesus.

The thought of delighting in God has been very beautifully and passionately preached!

Jesus is our treasure, everything else is war!

Passion? Men aren't supposed to be passionate, it is an emotion, this man or so called sounds like a woman, overly emotional and passion is an emotion that comes and goes it is not real, emotions are lies we are supposed to live by Logic and the spirit of God not by emotions this message is such crap I can't believe so many people are falling for it oh, God bless all of you and please come to the truth

God is our supremely, all satisfying treasure! Life is a constant battle to fight the forces (advertising, job, family, movies, society, etc.) that try to make things other than GOD seem precious, more valuable, more worthy of our attention. We fight, and we fight-- Whom have I in Heaven besides you? My flesh and my heart my fail, but I have You. We do not turn to empty cisterns, we wait, and trust on GOD to deliver.

@Anchored Alliance Evangelism I think its rather silly that you come to this channel only to put fourth negativity, you dont even back up your claims or statements you simply say rude comments. Mister "Evangelism" may you seek peace through God instead of putting out hate. Dont contradict yourself.

Glory goes back to our Savior's Jesus Christ.

Pastor John Piper messages have been ministering to me and my husband as we are experiencing pain in life. Despite the pain in life, we including our children are delightfully helding our family church service as we are praying for others to also find Jesus in their lives. Please pray with us.

A branch on a tree was given self will, and it decided that it did not want to be a part of the tree anymore, so it cut itself off to seek life elsewhere...not realizing that the moment that it cut itself from the trunk of the tree, it had cut itself off from the source of life...and seeking a life apart and alone, it died.

so good! i believe we are living in times where being a Christian is more than a title, it requires an actual KNOWING of Jesus. a desire and a relationship with Him. Seek first His Kingdom, and the rest will follow because all He desires is Intimacy with us. so good.

After listening to dozens of Mr Pipers sermons, and marvelling at them I didn't think they could get any better as they were already so incredibly anointed! I was wrong! This amazing sermon is even better and has really blessed me

@Anchored Alliance Compromiser or not, he's not a "this dude," he's a dearly loved son of the living God and fellow believer. If you can't see the Holy Spirit in this man after a sermon like this because of something he did, then you should wonder if you would be able to see the Holy Spirit in David after his terrible sins. I recommend you read 2 Corinthians 5:16-17, and the Epistles of John. But the point is that God looks on and judges the heart and so should we.

In other words, you're condemning Piper for something he did rather than his heart condition, which seems to be renewed toward God. But only God knows and judges the heart, that's why Jesus commanded us not to judge people since we're judged on the basis of our genuine faith in his righteousness, not ours.

He is a John Calvin - Calvinist . That is an underlying problem . A real problem . A heresy problem. Preach - teach - live - Without Calvinism to control you -or your thoughts . You will be just fine without Calvinism.

Thank you Pastor, I have always looked up to you and your walk with our Lord. You have been a faithful servant. I wish I could say the same, up and downs because of sin. I strive and will continue for the Crown.
