I’m going through a divorce right now after 15 years , all my friends keep saying “man you need to get out “ referring to me going to the clubs and bars and meeting people . Sitting home in my days off I think maybe I do , seems like every ones life is moving forward and I’m just sitting still . But in the back of my mind i think man that lifestyle caused you to be in the situation your in now . Looking for something out there in places you don’t belong anymore trying to fill a void in your heart . My Lil boy asked me about the devil lying and I was telling him that he was telling me a lie right now that I’m missing out on life . That imma be lonely and miss out on the fun of life if I don’t go out drinking and having fun . But what will that do ? I’ll leave y’all behind to go party . It’s selfish and leads to destruction in the end . I clicked on this video on accident and it’s a joy to listen to it . To know that I know I’m not looking for temporary “happiness” it’s a lie . I know in my soul I don’t need that . I need God .

@David Alexis sometimes I have a bitterness towards churches . And it’s not God it’s the people . All the churches I went to leave me out like an outcast . I’m like a chair rather than a person . People tell me “go to there church “ and when I go I’m just there . I hear the message and pray and leave . No fellowship . A lot of time they look at my old tattoos and it feels like they ignore me . I just spend a lot of time with God now . Praying reading fasting .

One of my best friends is also going through a divorce right now. May God give you the strength to look forward. One of my teachers at Seminary would always say, we constantly fall on our way to heaven. Satan wants us to stay down....But with Jesus we can get up again. - Greetings from Russia

@@manofthesword7170 I am truly sorry to read how some of our brothers and sisters have failed you. Makes me wonder how many times I might have made someone feel lonely or excluded? Scary, saddening thought...Please find forgiveness in your heart, for yourself and for the wrongs of others. Don’t isolate, that is the work of the evil one. Where two or three gather in His name, Jesus will be right there among them. There is a blessing in fellowship. My prayer for you: that you find your people who will uplift and sustain you, and spur you onward to good deeds. Too many men feel alone in our society today. We are not supposed to be lone wolves.

Dude. Sorry to hear that. The divorce, the loneliness and the lack of fellowship. I agree with the other writer that you NEED to develop some Christian friendships. I have experienced that exclusion feeling a few times at one of the big churches that I went to for awhile. Whilst I think that someone should make the effort to try to include you, have you tried sparking up the conversation with people yourself. For the most part I don’t think that Christian’s want to exclude people but equally they might just have thought that you were waiting to meet some other people and just gone back to chatting with their friends. Good luck man. No accident that you came here. Listen to Piper loads!! He is great

I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real it’s impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!

Wow, sounds like exactly what happened to me.. I thought for years that I was saved by HIS POWER BUT 🤔 hmm 🧐 I kept wondering why I wasn't hungry for scriptures, messages from great GOD GIVEN PASTORS.. wasn't crazy about going to church and I thought something isn't right 🤔💭 what is NOT HAPPENING.. this was in the early 80's.. I didn't know why I wasn't like my husband etc.. fly too 2011😖 I had been dealing with my first born daughter that begged not to DIVORCE HER HUSBAND.. My husband and I begged because we could see a MACK TRUCK was going to RUN HER DOWN AND WE WERE A THOUSAND PERCENT RIGHT.. she became an alcoholic, taking pills and lost custody of her two daughters 😖we had kept warning her that she would be the one who ruined a beautiful family..her and her husband had some problems BUT nothing that couldn't be worked through..I supported my son in-law, calling his parents in New Jersey telling them that I was concerned about they're son and they didn't know what was going on. Long years short.. she lost custody of her girls, she was ordered by the court that the girls couldn't be there if her boyfriend was there and of course she did exactly what she wanted. Lost all custody and could only see her girls supervised! Eleven long drunk years later she and her teenagers text but doesn't meet in person and she's been sober for 2 years completely different person..in the middle of all the lawyers court dates tears from my daughter who she tried 21 times overdosing at one point we were told that the doctor didn't know if she'd ever wake up again after taking 180 pills with vodka! She was on a breathing machine for days.. finally she started waking up..in the middle of all this craziness and after my son in-law told the court that I wasn't fit to supervise so I wouldn't get a chance to see my grandchildren..I remember exactly where I was like it just happened..it w6a bright sunny day... I was feeding my hens.. I'm a huge animal advocate and I educated myself on how meat is getting to us from factory farms, I watched undercover videos and couldn't get the images out of my head..I haven't eaten meat or cooked it for my husband for over 20 years... these hens had been left to die when a neighbor moved and just left them! Those were the only eggs I would eat because I knew how well I treated them...I was cleaning the pen out, got a call from my daughter's lawyer and I just looked at the clear blue sky and said GOD‼️I CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU 💗...I felt like you felt something dramatically changed 😁 I couldn't hear enough pastor's I couldn't get enough scriptures.. fast forward now..my husband and I are both HIS WITH ALL OUR HEARTS 💕 I have been married almost 50 years, we were married right after high school..we took covid time to draw closer to HIM, and HE DREW CLOSER TO US😊We read through HIS entire word.. that took from March to September and my soul is filled with HIS UNBELIEVABLE KNOWLEDGE...I don't like the world 🌍 I stay away from the world as much as I can... our lives have changed unbelievably! We CHERISH OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.. just like Piper always talks about 💕💕😊 I love talking to people about GOD, I now live on 30 acres and I RESCUE unwanted goats🐐 GOD literally performed a miracle because of my complete love of all animals..I had 21 goats but now have 12, I don't believe in breeding ANIMALS...my goats are retired milking goats.. and because of the over breading I see so many male goats up for slaughter 🙉🤯🤢 my goats are here just to be free, they have almost 10 fenced in acres.. never breed, and we spend a lot of time with them. Leading them out to 4 different pastures..ohh 😯 the miracle..one of my goats named Bull( long story) became critical because of acorn toxicity was and in all reality should have died within a day or two but he was very prayed over. 🐐😁Lots of IV fluids in a port in his neck, lots of medications and my two Fabulous vets wouldn't give me any hope..he is alive and Fabulous now. And GOD has taught me to let go when I lose my old goats..I used to become so depressed that I couldn't function not now😁HE has healed me from severe depression.. and all I want is to bathe in HIS WORD💕💕💕💗💗💗‼️

I'm so grateful that you felt blessed and related to your story ❣️❣️❣️I'm thinking while writing this all down as to why I'm even sharing all of this.. I Honestly can't get enough of John piper's teaching. Growing up in a church that taught God's blessing is all about money and health, John's teaching was alien to me at first but after I understood what it really means to be a Christian, I run after teachers like John piper. God bless you John for teaching believers what true riches are. And the importance of drawing close to God daily...

@@mitchellc4 perhaps you didn't understand my comment. John piper's teaching is not "his" teaching! They are God's teaching. As a student of God's word, I do appreciate how faithful he is with the scriptures. That is not saying he is the one I follow. Or that he is perfect!!!!!!!

@@mitchellc4 Yes, Jesus was the son of God, the Trinity is Father, Son, Holy Spirit. They are one. Jesus was God in the flesh. This is really simple, maybe stop arguing with people who're trying to teach you, and study for yourself. And also stop trying to teach other people, until you get it right yourself. You're a ways off from that yet, keep trying little buddy.

Christian hedonism is not about avoiding suffering. But through our suffering and with our broken hearts, we are still about find joy and peace in God's love and His righteousness.

That means love the God Christ Jesus first today forever. Or the God Christ Jesus throws you into hell to burn forever and ever. With the demons to torment you in hell forever and ever. I love the way he talks about God/Bible..He gets so into it that you can hear it in his voice...

This speech has created joy in Christ in me.

Boy, never seen so many haters on Piper sermons/lectures. He should take it as a compliment. Being persecuted due to Christ is always a blessing. I don’t agree with everything that is uttered out of Piper’s mouth, but he’s still one of my favs.

I experienced the essence of the prayer 'May your kingdom come, may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven' while listening to Pastor John. I was honestly amazed to hear those words uttered on earth! It was incredibly inspiring and redemptive to see a man praising the Lord in such a way.

Praise the Lord for this joyful preacher. God talked to my heart through his sermon.

Please don't misunderstand the sermon. Yes there are sufferings, discipline that are compulsory in any Christian life.What he (john piper) is saying that TRUE and ULTIMATE JOY is ONLY found in Living for JESUS CHRIST

I totally agree with this. From what I have understood from Pastor John's message was that being fully happy and joyful in God makes a christian joyfully praise God in terms of trials and sufferings. Knowing that no thing in this world could satisfy his heart apart from God.

I have heard most of these anecdotes before in one context or another; and it is fantastic to hear a full account of the major ways that Piper has been influenced over the years. What an amazing story of how God built up this man to speak to our battles with sin in such practical ways.

absolutely correct. the reason we sin is because its pleasurable. So indeed we need to find more pleasure in God than in sin 🙏 .God help us! we must find more happiness in God than the world. wonderful sermon

It is amazing to hear his description of his encounter with C.S. Lewis's words. When reading his words, it feels like there is a life changing revelation in almost every paragraph. I think to be willing to die for something implies believing that there are things worse than death. Things like not associating yourself with the Word, Jesus Christ. If we look at Stephen, it appears he was willing and able to be stoned for Christ because he was experiencing a deep enjoyment in God while being stoned.

This is SO beautiful, I hope that in the future if I have kids that I can be an amazing mother likes yours was. I hope my future husband and I can be such great, cute parents who sing to Jesus in the car... Thats so beautiful!!

Hedonism is the pursuit of worldly pleasure. We need to pursue the kingdom and presence of God, in his presence is fulness of joy.

This is lovely and timely. I was very unhappy before I came to God. Since then, I have had moments that I've been so happy I've questioned whether I have the right to be. The answer is yes Lord yes.

I love his preaching and the passion that he exudes while he's preaching. Beautiful.

Such a wonderful sermon! Someone said God isn't concerned with our happiness, but only our holiness, which goes through my mind a lot. I like what John Piper said so much. I'll run that through my head instead.

Amazingly gifted servant of God who has spoken to countless people and I go from strength to strength listening to him, he makes the scripture come alive.

Would be nice to say the same about my parents. Mom became an alcoholic and drug addict and my parents split when I was 8, me and my twin brother have been raised by a single dad for 10 years. He has been a loving father and I have had a good childhood, I'm very blessed. But my dad is an alcoholic, miserable, curses so much, and is so attached to the world despite his profession of faith. I'm working on Him and praying much. I have never seen my dad in a constant state of joy for more than a day or two, I want so badly for Him to be a godly man. Oh the joy that would follow.

Mitchell C Jesus said “the Father and I are one. If you have seen me, you have seen the father” You have alot of irrenous assumptions, you need to read your bible and seek God my friend. God never died, correct. If God were to die, the whole universe would vaporize into nothingness. The God -man died; the body died. God is spirit. Jesus was God incarnate. The beauty of the Triune God is that it is so complex that it is fit for God. Who could possibly understand God’s full nature? Absolutely no man! If you could, then that god would be no god. My God is unfathomable yet knowable, Powerful yet approachable, Strong and mighty, yet he played with children.

Brothers, the Lord showed me 2 months ago, an extraordinary vision, regarding the DAY OF THE LORD. I saw myself outside, among the people, and suddenly, an immense light, which encompassed everything, coming from above, of an unimaginable force and power, hit us unexpectedly. At that moment, I didn't have time for anything, I just managed to shout: OH MY GOD! I woke up instantly, and I heard a voice in my head (I knew it was the Lord), which told me: GOAL! And then I told him, remembering that in the BIBLE, it is written that the Lord's Day is a day of great auspiciousness, as it has never been before and will never be again, and I asked Him if this is what we must do, when we see this light. The LORD answered me that that LIGHT is HIM and that our GOAL from that moment, for salvation, is to CRY FOR HIM!! What I can tell you, after this experience, is that the ONLY thing we need is FAITH in the LORD. Believe me, nothing will save us on that day, except HIM! Glory to our Lord! AMEN!!!!!

It is so amazing what scripture says will make us happy. So counterintuitive. But thats the gospel. Only our obedience to Christ will give us the happiness that God intended from the beginning. Not this circumstantial, define it how you want to, fleeting idea the world has about happiness. In God alone is fulness of joy and pleasures forevermore. Praise God

It doesn’t feel good to sin when you are saved . Ask yourself this ... Am I loving the righteousness I once hated , am I hating the sin I once loved?

I understand what your talking about. You may want to look at what he said in regard to finding pleasure in sin a little differently so that you don’t wind up on the self righteous side of the spectrum. The opposite of self is to give and pour yourself out for others. Paul said, We do the things we don’t want to do and don’t do the things we want or let’s say should do. There’s a fight between the flesh and the Spirit. How many times could we have given ourselves and time and our resources for others but instead took pleasure in whatever else we were doing for ourselves? Now ask yourself if you’ve ever taken pleasure in sin.

Jay Son I agree with you - God has also shown me that we can fall into the trap of worshipping and serving God our way instead of how His Word defines how He wants to be served and worshipped. It’s easy to serve God our way - doing something that is more comfortable and decieving ourselves into thinking that we are doing it for God especially if we pour ourselves into it and it somehow has something to do with God and scripture (for example illustrating scripture verses and thinking God will use our work mightily to draw lost souls to Him etc) whereas true Christianity costs you something, it might cost you everything. It’s not comfortable, it means being hated, mocked, loosing your job perhaps, family and friends....sometimes it means even turning away from people who claim they are Christians but are walking another path and it hurts! It means going without for the sake of others, everyday working hard like a little ant either learning from God or seeking the lost or serving and helping others who are called by His name. I know I fail Him terribly and I humbly ask for His help everyday to understand and apply the scriptures to my life correctly and to help me be a good steward of my time, resources, skills and money because they are all for Him and for His glory. The regenerate born again believer knows how wretched they are in the presence of a holy perfect God and how desperately they need His mercy grace and help every millisecond of the day but they glory in the beautiful work He has done to heal them of sins and bad habits thus far and look forward to the day that He completes the work He started in them. I often have a Job moment and say “I abhor myself” , often I say to the Lord that He is good and I am horrible! If we keep our eyes fixed on Him and sensitive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit instead of comparing ourselves to others we could avoid the trap of being self righteous.

In general, he is saying, sin feels good not that Christians would enjoy sinning. If sin didn't feel good, there wouldn't be so many sinners. Does this make sense? We know that the wages of sin are death. Even Christians can get tempted at some point in their life. We are to resist....

This was a fantastic message, praise God for joy and pleasure. May we avoid the snare of sin and the entanglement of illicit pleasure and instead reside in God's abundant provision. Each and every one of us has much to be thankful for, no matter what our circumstances, if we simply know Jesus Christ. I hope God continues to use John Piper as He sees fit to be a beacon of hope for His joy and an advocate for finding true, lasting, and fulfilling pleasure for years to come. To God be the glory as our satisfaction in Him grows in tandem with our persistently seeking Him and His will above all else.

Joy is the confidence you feel in your soul when you are fully focusing on God's face in faith.

Father, Continue to humble me that my desires are too weak. I find pride in my zeal and I let it deceive me into thinking its righteousness. Zeal without wisdom is not a good thing. There is none good but You. I have to surrender to Your unfailing love to a soul that is restless. May it’s turbulence find its death on The Cross with Your Son. That’s one of my very fave quotes from CS Lewis, we are far too easily pleased playing with our mud-pies in a puddle, when we are offered a vacation at the seaside - Lewis said holiday, he was a Brit, he may be excused!

John Piper has a great relaxing tone to his voice. I respect & enjoy hearing what he has to say. USA has written in their bill, people should have the right to pursue pleasure. So I dont quite know what to think. Although i am not so sure that we strictly sin as we like it, or it feels good & is in the pursuit of pleasure. For instance if I were to hit my finger while nailing a picture up with a hammer and cursed saying 'God damn it'. There are many sins that don't feel good at all. Like drink driving, smashing my self up, breaking my bones with lacerations & serious injury, obviosly I don't believe that it is all fun to sin. Rather I feel that it is simply in our nature to sin & rebel against God, avoiding Him by hiding in the dark less our sin be exposed. Sin is deeper rooted than simply being fun.

Thank you so much for this video! This video helped me realize that one reason why I haven't had as much joy is because I don't have fellowship with other believers as much as I desire. I'm not trying hard enough to tell people about Jesus. I have a KZread channel but it hasn't progressed. I should make more videos. I also post some videos that I watch on Facebook and sometimes post personal God inspired messages but I don't receive any acknowledgement. Maybe I need more friends on Facebook. Maybe I should take the Gospel to the streets? I was going to small groups at the Church but then Covid happened. I should try to be a part of the Church online.

Our desires are too weak... I so fully agree with this teaching because we actually don't even know what our desires are!!! And we are too easily pleased... we will be given the desires of our heart if only we praise God... My eyes have been opened.. I now understand so much more.... it’s like a blockage has been unblocked..... I understand now how the apostles managed to do what they did... especially Paul.... the scales have fallen off my eyes in a way like never before....
