I am a 62 year old widow who literally lost everything and 3 years ago began studying the Word after leaving the Catholic church at the age of 20 and this is the very first time that I felt an understanding to our Father's message. I am in tears and in such awe from this glorious message given by our Father - through this man who is chosen to 'preach' our Father's words to us. John Piper is certainly chosen for I have NEVER heard such truth of spirit come from ANY person as it did from him in this message. I am so moved I can find words. THANK YOU!

I have never heard such a message, I laughed I cried and I saw God for the first time, a God in whom I can experience,. Experience him in the taste of honey, in the birth of a baby, and in the act of making Love to my husband, I am in tears. My eyes have been open to a whole new light of love and joy! As I come together with my husband, I know now I am experiencing God and as I put aside my will and submit to my husband’s well, i believe a spiritual shift takes place and now my spirit can go in and through,; then and only then I connect to His presence and experience God!! I hope this will bless a married couple. My life and my marriage has been changed forever, Thank you ever so much Pastor John Piper

Wow! I'm not even done listening yet, but I just wanted to say how much this blesses me to hear this. I'm sitting in my studio doing a painting, listening to this and saying "God...yes! I get to be with you! You've been with me in blessings and in trials. You are my portion!" My hand left hand goes up in praise as my right hand paints. How can you resist the presence of God? He is so sweet. There's nothing, no pleasure on this earth that compares! My soul magnifies the Lord! Thank you, John Piper and Desiring God ministries for bringing this delightful banquet to me today!

I must confess how it's so much easier for me to enjoy a pizza or a football game or some orange juice than it is to enjoy God. Because I am still in the flesh, I find it so much easier to enjoy things that I can touch, I can feel, I can see, I can smell. How can someone so carnal as I enjoy such a Holy Holy Holy God in spirit & in truth? Thank you Lord Jesus for coming down to this world to save your wayward people. Thank you for purchasing such a great privilege for carnal sinners to know the gracious heavenly Father through you. Thank you for sending us the Holy Spirit to remind us of your great love whenever we enjoy a pizza, or a game, or some orange juice and thus delight in You. Thank you for the good work you have begun & thank you for being faithful to complete it. Be glorified Lord Jesus 🙏

Tinker Diggens Dear, SO glad for you that you're hearing this at a young age!!! When heard in old age (and saved in later years, too), one of the first thoughts is "Ohmy how I could have been delighting in Him all those years!" When truly saved, redeemed, "born again" we can now give Him so very much praise and thanks and glory for His GREAT, unending, unimaginable love, to want to forgive us, His creations!

The problem I've always had is I desire SO much to have a close relationship with Him and to love Him above ALL I want Him truly not things but because I cant see/hear/feel Him I find it hard so when I read the bible I know attributes about Him and I have affection to some degree but not overwhelming joy like it should be and when pray I don't feel Him like most people seem to I have doubts of salvation which surely isn't helping I don't doubt Jesus and God promises I doubt my own heart if I decieved myself even though I repented and accepted Christ genuinely I know there is false converts out there false repentant people even how can I know without doubt the Holy Spirit brought me to God and repentance rather than my own emotions and head knowledge ?

Mike Hill I'm going through the exact same doubts and struggles. I often struggle to be excited about knowing God and am all too rarely excited about prayer and reading the Bible. I think it does take a miracle to move from the affection you mentioned, into genuine, passionate love and enjoyment of the person of God, and that for this miracle to be worked in us, we must want that in our lives. The fact that you so clearly desire to be closer to Him is brilliant, and I do as well (most of the time), so I think we move forward with patience and in the confience of God's promises. He promises to help us, which must mean He also helps us in our doubts and unbelief. It is human to doubt, but keep your faith Mike, hold onto it. I don't think you could have a faith and desire to be closer to God such as you have, without God being behind it, drawing you to Him.

Ben Boyum That's true my desire wouldn't be there if God were not involved definitely I will never lose the faith but I to struggle to be excited about the Bible and prayer BUT I want to be excited I want what true Christians have full joy in Him and nothing else matters reading the Bible is the best thing ever I want that but patience is key as you mentioned :)

"How Deep the Father's Love for Us" Original Lyrics by Stuart Townend (verses 1, 3, 5) Additional Lyrics by Sean Morris (verses 2, 4, 6-7) 1. How deep the Father's love for us How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory 2. How deep the Father’s love for us, - Eph. 3:18 Reveal to us the measure. - Eph. 3:19 Thereby find fullness in Your Son, - Eph. 3:19 Show me the hidden treasure. - Eph. 1:18 His life was lost that I might gain! - 2 Cor. 5:21 The Father turns His face to me! - 2 Cor. 3:17-18, 4:3-6 I’m healed by Christ, the Risen One, - 1 Pet. 2:24 To live for His own glory! - 2 Thess. 1:11-12, Heb. 13:20-21 3. Behold the man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished 4. Behold the Man upon the Throne, - Eph. 1:16-23 Government He shoulders! - Isa. 9:6-7 So earth may hear the Christian voice, - Matt. 10:7-8, 28:18-20, Mk. 16:15-18 Proclaim it is not over! - Rom. 5:10, Php. 1:19-21, 2 Cor. 5:14-21, Rev. 2:26 In righteousness He sits up there, - Acts 2:34-36, 2 Tim. 4:1-2, Rev. Ch. 2-3 To will and to accomplish, - Php. 2:13, Col. 1:9-12 A law of Spirit and of Life; - Rom. 8:2-4 We know it is unfinished! - Rev. 21:6, 1 Pet. 1:5, Php. 2:12 5. I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom 6. I will not boast in pow’r-less days, - 2 Thess. 1:11-12 In Christ is power and wisdom. - Eph. 1:19, 6:10, Col. 1:11, Acts 1:8 The gifts are ours in Jesus Christ, - Eph. 4:7-13 Through death and resurrection. - Eph. 4:20-24, Rom. 6:1-13 Why should I waste the Son’s reward, - Eph. 1:18, Matt. 25:14-30 And fail to give good answer, - Matt. 25:24-25 As God does search th' enlightened hearts, - Matt. 25:19, Rev. 2:2-5, 13-14, 19-20, 23, 3:1-5 Which owe because the ransom? - Matt. 25:14, 19, 27 7. How deep the Father’s love for us? From Cross to Throne our answer! Tis finished in truth - that right now, Begins th' unfinished Kingdom! We who for sins in-whole were sold, Now cherish the Lord’s ransom, So now in Christ our claims are bold, To raise th’ eternal standard!

I am unsure of my salvation because I do not seem to delight in God or feel any love for Him. I obey Him out of obligation and fear of Hell, rather than obeying out of love. So what do I do now? How do I make myself feel the emotions that are necessary for salvation? Since I am asking God to give me those emotions and I am still not feeling them, does that mean that I am not one of the elect? John Piper often speaks of how delighting in God and treasuring Him above all else is necessary in order to go to Heaven, but what should one do if they do not delight in Him or treasure Him? I'm beginning to lose hope and I think I may be a lost cause.

Search through his word. learn about him. you will see how amazing the lord is. Don't do it out of obligation. You can't make yourself have the emotions. seeing God's amazing character through his word and things that he does in your life will do that. obligation does nothing. I will pray for you!! don't give up!

You're not a lost cause. I pray that the eyes of your heart are opened like the man in Matthew 13:44. Only the Holy Spirit's work in you can cause you to love God with all your heart all your soul and all your strength. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Your obedience out of fear will lead to a delight in the Father and will lead to Christ and the Father making His home in your heart. Ask God for genuine affection and joy in Him, keep asking. You're not alone in struggling with this. I find that writing out His promises as I read them allows me to read slow enough for my affection to build. Give yourself at least 30 uninterrupted and unhurried minutes per day over your open Bible and ask Him to speak to you. Luke 11:9-13.

Kylee, I have often experienced the same questions and feared their implications. I will pass on the response of my pastor when I went to him with my fears. He said, "You do not love God, though you wish you could? Good. That is a confession. When the prodigal son realized his failure, he began to travel back to his father to in order to confess his sin and ask only to be a servant in his house. But what did the Father do? 'While he [the son] was still a long way off, his father saw and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.'" When we confess to God our failure to love him, we are still a long way off. Yet he is filled with compassion for us and runs out to us. We would be lost causes, except that he pursues us (runs out to us)........ Practically, I apply this knowledge by confessing to God the twisted desires of my heart and remembering that "even when we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Then I pray that he would open me and change me to see glimpses of his beauty - especially when I read scripture. Then, I take the advice of C. S. Lewis and act as if I loved God, even if I do not properly love him, in the hopes that as I obey him my heart would begin to turn towards him. I hope that this finds you well.

How can you love God when you don't know if he loves you. There are no verses in the Bible that are positive for women. I really want to know Gods love, but women seem to be created as an after thought and then are created out of a man not the same stuff as the rest of the world. Then they are treated as unimportant except for children. I'm not even sure if a woman can be saved only enslaved. I wish the proof didn't point to that but it does.

Bonnie...I am not a pastor or preacher....but want you to know that God loves the world. More importantly He is love...yes he did create woman from the man...and he did it in love. He created man from dust :-). Please read Genesis 1:26-28. 26 Then God said, “Let us make man8 in our image, pafter our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; rmale and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them,“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Note that God created them male and female and he "blessed THEM". The Hebrew root word for blessed means to "ADORE" - bârak, baw-rak'; a primitive root; to kneel; by implication to bless God (as an act of adoration), and (vice-versa) man (as a benefit)...Creation is one of God's many acts of love or adoration. God knows the end from the beginning, so to Him nothing or no one is an afterthought. We were all born in the condition of sin...lost and had now hope...but god being rich in mercy sent His son. In him you are the beloved and very important as any man. Ephesians 2: 4-10 But3 God, being rrich in mercy, sbecause of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even twhen we were dead in our trespasses, umade us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- 6 and raised us up with him and wseated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in ykindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved athrough faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus hfor good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Christ is the proof you need...put your trust in Him. And find God fearing women, who are trusting in him, to walk with you through this season. There is so much more to this....it will take some time...but God is patient and Kind.

God loves women. God sent his Jesus Christ through a woman, Mary. There's no greater proof that God delights in female gender than this. Carrying the God of the universe in your womb is saying more than saying women are child bearer. It is saying women are the crown of creations and so magnificent.

God LOVES everything (everyone) that he created. Why would he make something that he hates? If he didn't want women, he would have done something different. He made us for a reason. Women are doing great things for God in this day. He LOVES LOVES LOVES you!! Look in his word. Seek him and pray. Read Luke 7:36-50. GOD LOVES YOU!!

The Lord does not look down on women or treat us differently than men. God has made us different to compliment one another. Look how many stories of women are remembered in the NT. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal3:28-29

The story of the Bible is outdated and needs to better balanced to today's modern day concerns without a preacher having to break down 1 sentence every 20 minutes. Even if you try to break it down and explain the verses to people, they are bored by your stories and that doesn't encourage the brain to be "turned on". - That's TRUTH. - I am not trying to be rude, my apologies for coming across this way, it is my intention to get your attention however. How do you enjoy the bible and the story that is being represented? There is a never ending representation of the works that will bring you to a point of resenting people for their striving to present parables as a mirroring truth. Also, if you understand Gnosticism...you understand whats trumy going on in the stories. Do people understand Gnosticism? All th e writers of the 66 books were Gnostics, Mystics or seers. Believe, their experience with God and Satan are on a MUCH DIFFERENT SCALE than anything we could ever imagine. However, the story has good morals and values. With todays competing story lines, children are losing interest. God bless...

Forcing yourself to delight and enjoy someone? Praying that you can just actually enjoy someone? That's like the stupidest thing I've heard. You don't have to convince and persuade someone who actually enjoys and loves God to make themselves love and enjoy God. So weird if you have to force yourself to love God you don't love God.

kevlar kevin Since everyone is sinful by nature (corrupt in every part of our being), we can’t and won’t EVER love and enjoy God in our own. Thus, God must, by the Holy Spirit, transform our hearts to love and enjoy him and to be satisfied in him. THAT’S the reason God “forces” us to love him (although he’s making us love the best thing for us in the world: Himself. So it’s not a bad forcing). Would you rather let God not change your heart and go to hell rather than change it and make you go to heaven?
