I had wished the young man could have shown more honor and respect to an elder in the Christian circle. Pastor John is more like a father to me than a brother. Every word that comes from his mouth are deep from his heart of love for the church. Yes I am once reminded " God is most glorified when I am most satisfied in HIM"

Believe me John wants it that way: Mat 23:9 And do not call anyone on earth `father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called `teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you will be your servant.

The culture of the West, is different to that of Africa. In the West there is an informal culture between the young and the old which might seem strange to an African. They may not call their Christian leaders ‘daddy’ and ‘mommy’ but it is totally ok, so far as there is still respect and honour In someway. In Africa, sometimes we overdo the respect and honour with our elders to the point where we start exalting them above God Himself, which is wrong. At the end of the day, Pastor John Piper may be a pastor, but he is indeed a brother to us all in Christ. Matthew 23:9-12.

Hmmmmm. This is true. I am a Ghanaian. I was in Egypt for 2weeks for a summer school and I saw the need. As a Ghanaian I can say I am so privileged and must not take the availability of a plethora of pastors for granted. God will send workers among your people in Egypt, and many will come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Till then, be encouraged to share the light you have found with many of those around you. God will confirm His Word in your mouth. God bless you. Your land and its rich history of pyramids are beautiful. I enjoyed entering and climbing to the highest point possible.

Take heart that Jesus will deliver those searching and he w will work in all lands. I hear that it is difficult in other countries to find pastors but ultimately we look up to our Lord and not other people and it is through this that we stay strong by the Holy spirit. I'm telling myself this because it is so easy to worship other people but it is the word of their testimony which encourages us and should point us to God. Easy for me to say in the UK but I pray that you are surounded by and meet other Christians and encourage one another. In Jesus name I pray.

May the Lord bless you brother. In Heaven we’ll all be lucky. We all must be sure we’re in the Ark! We must be in the Ark when the floods come. I try to search the scriptures daily to make sure I’m in the faith. Thank you Jesus for the blood you shed for our sins. The only thing I have to offer you is the BLOOD! 🩸 Forgive me Lord, I’m a wicked sinner who turned from my sin and live Holy before you. Thank you for saving me. I press towards the goal in the midst of all the struggles, affliction, spiritual warfare, great weakness, and many sorrows. It’s all going to be worth it in the end. I’ve made an eternal investment that was established by the sinless Lamb of God who was more than enough to conquer my sins, and the sins of the whole world. 🙏🏼

with the young interviewer's demeanor over our dear Dr. Piper, for us from the different part of the world, our differences in respecting the Elders/Fathers, we can "gracefully" say it's cultural considerations. On the other hand, in the lens of manhood, just as Christ (Groom) to the Bride (church), I believe respect & reverence to the Elders & Fathers are sign of maturity and humble "considerations" #imho

Mr. Piper, I was a member of your church at Bethlehem Baptist Church. I am not of any one of importance but I would like you to consider speaking in some forum to Jordan Peterson. He is one of the leading thinkers of this generation and whether you like him or not is worthy of your time and attention. I think you would actually have a lot to learn from each other. Not meaning that he would change you but he is brilliant and you are as well. I think having you both in the room at the same time would be electric. Because you both have a great deal to share that would be beneficial to all of us.

This conversation would turn humanistic and all about psychology. All good earthly things, but completely lacking the point of the centricity of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. In fact modern psychology is anti-christian by design. It tells you that the cure for your problems comes from inside of you. When the Bible tells you that your big problem is sin and only Christ can fix it. Peterson is a great modern thinker, but I think Psychology and Christianism should not mix.

I absolutely respect and adore Brother John for his devotion to the LORD. My stance is this on calvinism, methodists, and Lutherans: All I know as a man after God is that Christ died and rose just as brother Paul wrote. I know no other way to live, breathe, eat, or be, other than Christ crucified for my sins. Oh so merciful and mighty is our LOVELY KING. He is HOLY. I know JESUS IS MY LIFE LINE. MY HOPE RESTORED. MY DOOR OPEN. He is my JUSTIFICATION. HE IS MY SOUL. I can't move without him. All I KNOW IS JESUS. NO OTHER NAME BUT JESUS!

Joshua 24:15 KJV - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

The sovereignty of God was one of the eye opening things the Lord Jesus revealed to me. I can look back at my life and see when I was borderline atheist, helping with the worship team in prison for a 20 yr sentence for crimes I committed when I was 16, that He was working and I couldn't see it. He than led me to an old country church where the pastor had been praying about 2 services as the services were growing and had at least 1 time where people couldn't stay because there wasn't anymore room. He had been praying and hoping for a more contemporary worship style. I told him when asked ...this is all I know... being i had helped for the last 5 yrs in prison not knowing Jesus was working for His glory. My salvation, my family, this life has all been His plan. Look at the book of Esther. Gods sovereignty all over it.

I went to Pr. John's seminary, and I appreciate much of what he says. That said, I do think there's a missing emphasis young people need to consider. Around the 13:40 mark, I think, he mentions the American dream being an unholy ambition, with a dichotomy to holy ambitiion in Romans 15 in making your life about getting the Gospel to where Christ hasn't been named? But couldn't a holy ambition be to live a quiet and dignified Christ-exalting and generationally discipling life that ends up in the suburbs with you, your household, and an inheritance saved up for your great grandkids? Proverbs 13:22 comes to mind, along with 1 Timothy 2:2. Seems that there are more than cross cultural holy ambitions.

If you don't love money, hoard, and are generous, and are not turned inward, I suppose you can live a more conventional life. But I don't think we should be fixated on the here and now and perfect food, perfect houses, perfect clothes, perfect educations, etc. You know, manicured, self-absorbed lives.

Absolutely, and this is my ultimate ambition, but we have to be willing to have and work toward a goal and then "be able to walk away easily when the call comes," if God has better ideas. The only reason a good ZGod would ask something different of us than this good idea is if He has something better than that.

23:00 Ps Piper talks about finding a spouse, most likely at Church, what I can’t work out is the Apostle Paul, Christ and even Timothy and Peter (perhaps) forsake having a spouse for the sake of the Gospel, how else could the Apostle Paul do what he did if he was instead house bound with responsibilities?

In John you see the soul at work - emotions and not spirit. Consequently, his entire learning is reasoned philosophy from Augustine and Calvin who cite all the ancient philosophers. See, 1 Corinthians 2

What do you do when you are in school, and the daily aspect of God leading you (spending time with people or doing something non planned) but studying will then suffer. I need to keep my GPA up... Sl what is the solution to unit these two contrasting options (studying and in school vs. what God presents).

ALWAYS glorify Him in your studies. There’s a balance to be found between spending time with people and studying. I am still not quite there, but I have found that the balance is easiest to define when you’re in full submission to Him, walking in the Spirit. Hope this helps.

Just stop willfully sinning and you will excel I'm telling you! Just stop ...please, there are psychological consequences, And then there's a waiting period who wants to live with the regret and horror at the same time having to have to wait for His redemption again on you to "display" itself in you and in your mind to a witness to your spirit! ... After a while it just becomes logical and common sense so please stop wilfully sinning and see to your ultimate happiness, peace and joy in Him it's absolutely beyond remarkable! The Chosen

I've read the comments here, and most are saying and singing praise to John Piper and calvinism. So tell me this, what is the point of praying and asking God to heal or to bring John Piper's son to repentance if you all support what John Piper says here. If God preordained everything like is said in this video, that means that no prayer or wishful thinking is going to help. It is all very logical. Just think about it and dont just blindly follow people.

God preordains your prayer and then answers. We pray because God controls all things (including the prayer). If God doesn't have control of all things then there would be no point praying. For how could he answer?

There seems to be misunderstanding or miss use of the word "preordained". definition of preordained on google is "(of an outcome or course of action) decided or determined beforehand; predestined." What you and Piper are saying then is that "God controls everything" so if I get sick that means God has preordained for me to get sick on this specific day with this specific sickness. And then, you are also saying that God preordained for me to pray. There are a few outcomes to prayer, either our prayer gets answered or not. So lets say God has pre ordained for me to get sick, and he preordained for me to pray for healing and then he preordained if I will get healed or not. how does any of this not sound like pre-programming. Where do you see freewill in this scenario? This is completely opposite of what Bible teaches How can a prayer be from the heart if it was pre-programmed in you to pray. if that was the case that means that all our actions are just a combination or bunch of preordained (preprogrammed) things and we are nothing but robots walking this earth to execute someone's "God's" plan. That is not what the Bible teaches.

Hi @mmtenyakov.. I was just about to listen to Piper and saw your message on top (despite the fact that it was posted 3w ago). I am only a very simple Christian with no special education of theology and I used to wrestle with all that you posted here. At times, God answers most of those hard core questions but I think it is impossible for us, while we still live in this temporary body with constant distractions due to our sinful flesh & so super limited mind, to be able to get all answers we need/want. As Paul says, we can’t see all clearly now but we will when we see our Lord face to face. Through finding the right answers to those questions you’re wrestling with, your faith is being built. Keep reading your Bible and beg God to give His revelations to His living Word. It is impossible to answer your questions through this short chat, as you go down right to the very fundamental aspects of what faith is, who God is & how HE works, who we are and why we are how we are today, who Satan is and how he works, and so forth. One undeniably key principle is, God only plans for all the goods but allows certain bad things happen to produce goodness out of them, for our benefits. (I believe GOD interferes a lot more than we know, HE protects us from bad things so much more than allows it to happen to us🙏. We just do not know cuz our knowledge is super limited). While Satan always does only harm to us , as he is the murderer, father of all lies and destroyer, although often wraps & presents them ‘looking & feeling good’. All disasters, diseases, all kinds of wickedness and ultimately death itself are due to sins that have entered the world ever since Adam & Eve chose to disobey God and gave themselves fallen in to Satan’s temptation. Why do we pray? Because GOD works through our prayers to build our faith. We pray not for God’s benefit but ours. Whatever we do we can’t give GOD benefit. HE is GOD and He doesn’t need anything from us. HE wants us to love HIM back though.. simply because HE loves us and HE Himself is love. If you will, please listen to sermons/ Q&A about why & how to pray, how God works , of John MacArthur, RC. Sproul, Paul Washer.. may you open your heart to His teachings. Our ultimate Teacher is Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is who helps us to understand. GOD preordains doesn’t mean GOD play us like robots, HE works through our free wills to receive His salvation and we need to respond with our wholehearted-will in order to be worthy of being His disciples. GOD gives us free will and therefore HE wants and will let us use it. That’s exactly the reason why only so small percentage of all men He created will enter the Kingdom of GOD and live eternally with HIM , cuz the much bigger percentage chose and will choose to reject & deny HIM and consequently will live their eternal life in hell. At the end they will get what they wanted on earth , i.e being totally out of His presence but that would be the ultimate indescribable suffering to them. GOD wants to save all mankind but HE , as devastatingly heartbreaking as it is for Him to see HIS loved creation gone astray, HE won’t force those who keep on rejecting & choose to deny HIS ultimate love & perfect grace & mercy… God bless you, may you willingly be led and open your heart to listen to His answers. HE will attend you and make Himself being found if you sincerely are craving for HIM 😇🙏❤️‍🔥

I find married pastors' comments on true Christian singleness hard to hear. I often shut off the podcast/video, which is what I did with this video. They speak of it as if it is so easy, even in the anti-Christian world we live in. How can they express so easily what Christian singleness is like when they married in their early-to-mid 20s (in a very different era for this nation), have a good marriage despite challenges, and have children and grandchildren? They have no concept of what it is like, especially for women who want children and a male leader in the home who provides a covering. I've lost track of the number of exceptional, adult Christian women I know who are unmarried and weary of all the responsibilities they carry. He discusses the single, chaste Christian life with casual ease as if he has actually experienced it. He has not. I am waiting for single male pastors, 30+ to start speaking on this topic. As much as I respect John Piper, his comments speak of a severe lack of understanding and, dare I say, empathy.

Something I don't understand about the American cultures is how casually they speak to their elders. I'm South African, and we are taught to talk with respect towards elders, regardles of their status or position, simply because they are older. Not judging, just observing tue cultural differences. I think it's also why the American churches has lost the Fear of the Lord . It's sad.
