This is life changing. It's as if John Piper captured every spiritual thought that ever lingered and burned in my God given mind...thoughts I was never able to match words to, and he decoded them right here in this sermon, he explained feelings I was never able to understand myself. There was always MORE...SOMETHING was always missing, questions were never answered. I found this incredible in so many ways. I can relate to this in more ways than I can count, especially the mood swings and introvert tendencies, and battling them biblically. I am so blessed by Piper's preaching, and I wish he knew the impact he's had on this human life, which impacts human lives around me. It is John Piper that helped me locate my selfishness, and his preaching changed the trajectory of my walk with God; also fueled my fire with his "If My Words Abide In You" sermon on just that, abiding, and scripture memory, which I have memorized that entire work of scripture memory, and it is amazing to have those words hidden in my heart. "If THIS, (the Word) is HERE, (in your mind) then we (you and God) can talk ANYWHERE!" John Piper, thank you for your dedication to being a Shepard, and your unselfish and humble honesty, your love for Romans, your stories about your family...Noel, Talitha, and the boys, it's all so beautiful! I thank God for you, and your family, and thank you for pleading with God's children, because this child ... listened.

Regarding what he was saying regarding weaknesses: it's quite true. Earlier in my life I felt guilty because people were going to door - and I was staying home. I'm still asthmatic, actually - my health still makes leaving the house a difficulty. So I tried witnessing to folks online, over an online game. I still hop on that game now and again just to talk to folks - and I've seen God at work. You can serve Him. There is no temptation that takes us but such as is common to man: but you, however, are unique, loved by God, and still called by Him to serve Him in some way: whether it be in a 'simple' manner or not. Think about plumbers, for example. No, really. Is it a glorious job? I don't think any of us have that word pop into our head when thinking about plumbing, without a special reason. Yet, plumbing leads to far greater sanitation - which means plumbers likely save many more lives than doctors. Even if it be something simple, seek to do it to the glory of God. I've a long way to go, but Jesus is faithful.

I understand completely. I have learned how God specializes in weak people since I have gotten three different cancers. Aside from being born again, it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. Truly a gift from God. I have a death/life sentence each day reminding me to use every day wisely. Reminding me to be thankful for every morsel of goodness. Reminding me to think and act like a soldier in this battleground of LIFE. To be in the Word every day. And to do as Paul said, to press toward the mark for the prize of the High Calling in Jesus Christ. I run in such a way as to WIN! I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit for the power to not just face SIN in your life but to utterly crush it and push it out of your life.

3 wonderfully constructed life changing realizations presented here. Realization 2 really resonated with me, as I feel that although I understood that Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, was crucified to absolve us of our sins, I guess I never fully realized how God planned this from before the universe began not only as a way to bring us closer to Him but also to demonstrate the fullness of his divine grace. A really beautiful and extremely clarifying sermon, thank you John Piper.

How refreshing to hear a pastor acknowledge that he must one day give an account for his ministry. Far too many pastors these days treat their ministry as a career, a job or mere employment. Something to be endured on the way to retirement.

Thank you Pastor for this message. Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ Jesus we have all that we need for Life and godliness. Christ is our Head and our Covering; He Alone is All In All. We pray Father that You would help us to keep the eyes of our heart looking away from the things of this world however they manifest; keep us away from that which would lead us away from Your Truth - even man-made doctrines and interpretations, frivolous, carnal, and fleshly teachings of men and their views. Heavenly Father, give us more of Your Holy Spirit so that we who have Inherited Your Kingdom may stay One in You, at Your Throne; where as the sons of GOD, we who Believe and have Faith in Christ, are equal and the same in Your eyes; firmly looking to Christ Jesus always so that precious time is not wasted on what is not Truth, that we may not become Spiritually short-sighted and forget all that Christ did for us on the Cross..

I can relate with you. But look, God called me through a depression recently. It was not the first time, but it was one the one time I thought to myself: "I have tried many ways to beat this sadness, anxiety and frustration, and nothing has worked for me. Other things I haven't tried, but many people have and doest work properly, neither. So, do I have a hope?" It was like God answering to me, that he put me the impulse to look for a Bible an aunt gave me, and read it. I can tell you He spoke to me through that Bible, in a very subtle way but intense at the same time. Then, Everytime I would feel hopeless, I would find something that told me more about God and Jesus. Now I thing I get the message: "Everytime you feel like this, come and learn from me, from my promises, and the rest will be coming as you do it". I can tell you that's what I am doing, and it's being much better than before, when I would take this frustration into rage, into the feeling of inferiority, etc. Now, I thank God for this struggles that I have, because they have make me be closer to God and God has had compasión of my soul 🙏🏼, just as I know that He has of yours. And, the fact that you're here commenting this, is an important step. Blessed be God.

I think it's a gift from God. There are different levels of portion for the passion/eagerness/satisfaction in God. Not all people are gifted like apostle Paul, Steven (the martyr), and the twelve disciples of Jesus. I myself are struggling to be like that, but not yet come to that level (even a lot far from it)

There is a difference between arrogance and confidence Arrogance is thinking ur more skilled than u actually are; while confidence is knowing and accepting how skillful you actually are People generally like confidence, but hate arrogance God is not arrogant, He is confident But because humans are almost ALWAYS arrogant (since we think ourselves to be bigger and better than we actually are) we mistake God's confidence for arrogance I don't think we even know what true confidence looks like, otherwise we would recognise God's confidence and find it appealing rather than disgusting And since pride is essentially competitive, the people who are put off by God's confidence in His own worth and ability are often those who are most arrogantly mistaken with regards to their own worth and ability and thus they feel quite threatened by God

John Piper's 3 massively important things that he knows. * 1. God is to be treasured by his people above all things. That’s why he created us. * * 2. Jesus died so that you could enjoy God and give glory to him. * * 3. What will give glory to God? Good works for Christ and rejoice in sufferings and when you’re persecuted. * * 1. God is to be treasured by his people above all things. That’s why he created us. * 1. I will not define my purpose for life, he will. He is the all knowing all powerful God. God is God, I am not. God does everything to put his glory on display 1. Everyone wants to be happy. God made you to want satisfaction in him. 1. There is an all satisfying God that wants us to be satisfied in him. God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in him When Christ is so precious to you that life with him is more precious to you than anything in this life, then God will be magnified in you. When you loose all things in life you say “gain”. * 2. Jesus died so that you could enjoy God and give glory to him. * 1. See the glory in his grace! God’s plan was always to give us grace. (Eph 1:6) 2. Jesus didn’t just remove sin through Christ but he did it for his glory so that people will look to the cross and give glory to God. * 3. What will give glory to God? Good works for Christ and rejoicing in sufferings and when you’re persecuted. * 1. Non believers do good works. What makes our good works a light to others is when they see that we rejoice in our sufferings because we are happy in Jesus. We need sacrificial love to be a light. (Matt 5:14-16)

As a black male our brothers and sisters that are not black speak in ways that are foreign to us because we didn't have those opportunities as they did. So, John Piper's sermon was for that audience not for everyone maybe we could take some of those things in his sermon "Don't Waste your Life" and apply them but not every thing. I went to the military fresh out of HS because my mother couldn't afford to help me with college and even though I had scholarships to go to college then need to make money and help myself and my family was greater than the need to go to college. I did go to college later in life but our priorities as black people are totally different than most white people and even more so as Christians.

This is a great message. I have no excuses on how my life turned out, because the Bible has always been here! Please drop the crutch. That mentality has destroyed unity among us for many years, and it’s gotten worse through “Politically Correct” baloney!

This is an honest question. How do I know that I am not wasting my life? If took the risk of going to a third world country? If I empty my pocket? How does one know for sure that they have not wasted their life. Looks like personally I have wasted my life trying to figure out my exact purpose (the general of course I am aware) Looks like John seems to know that he has not wasted it. Indeed he knows that he is fortunate. What about people like me who are yet to figure out what are in this earth for....

I get it. Reformed theologians say that God's plan from the beginning was to elect a few to bask in His eternal glory while the majority of His created people suffer in separation from Him in Hell. But the idea that God feels any sort of "anger" or "wrath" toward the humans that he pre-ordained for damnation before the beginning of time? Reformed theology bites its own neck. The blatant illogic astounds me.

Jared Clark Jared, The key to understanding the truth lies in the fact that, as God, all your created beings are going to hate you because of their own self centrism (and when everything is peeled back to the core, no one can subordinate themselves -down to their own desires- to be consumed by another volition) and people may not want to face it or admit it - even to themselves- but that is its metaphysical ultimacy. So it is utter nonsense to think that someone who is reformed can boast about it. It is the ultimate existentialist philosophy because of Trumps all others and provides the ultimate purpose.

GOD is God.. and you are not..(neither am I) but His Ways are not our ways.. even as you had nothing to do with you first (natural) birth.. so goes the second birth.. all you can do is cry out for mercy until His Glory Blows across your stone heart.. I'll be sure to tell Him you need His 'born from aboveness" when you're ready

: Because the Word of God clearly teaches that a person is saved by FAITH ALONE in Christ. This is evidenced by Romans 4:5; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5 and hundreds of other Scriptures. Romans 4:5 states... "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." The Bible couldn't possibly be any clearer on this matter. Salvation is through faith in Christ's righteousness alone (Romans 4:5-6). This has nothing to do with Christian living. James 2:18 speaks of the FRUIT of a man's faith, which should be evident in every believer's life; BUT, that is completely separate from the ROOT of a man's faith, which is by faith alone in Christ. Lordship Salvationists confuse the two, tragically to their own damnation.

Jef Livs The Bible says both, but I'm sure he would agree with you. Some verses say the believer is saved by faith, others say saved by grace through faith. If you want to get technical it's Christ who saves you. The five Solas capsulate it all. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, by Christ alone, for the glory of God alone, based upon Scripture alone.

Why do you believe that? You wrote this three years ago I hope you come back to this and answer if you can. I hope you are still alive and God made you see the great love He has for you and how he sent His own son to die for you so that he can have fellowship with you for eternity. Isaiah, what a fitting name, means G-d is salvation. I pray that in the last three years you have tasted as seen that the Lord is good and that born to be wasted lie is gone from your thoughts.
