the term end of the world became very real to me when our manufacturing collapsed. I'm from Ohio too. North Central Ohio. pisses me off. I'm glad we have manufacturing back here! I'm glad to be back home.

No where near it. I go back to Youngstown twice a year. If you go to the parts where people actually live it's way nicer now than when I lived there almost 20 years ago. No one wants to live in houses built in the 1940's and before so those area's are just slowly being abandoned. Unlike Detroit though Youngstown is actually tearing those houses down. Detroit could learn from Youngstown actually.

ConnorFFA well the economy needs a major shot in the arm or Youngstown will never improve. It is about attracting different types of business and creating good paying jobs. Evidently Youngstown is just like Niagara Falls NY, it just cannot seem to get its act together.

@@r.pres.4121 I live in Canada and from what I can gather is ever city is saying the same thing diversity! We can all say it all we want but all the good jobs have moved to china. While the west is old and falling apart their whole country is 20 years old..ish. what industry is left is being run into the ground to squeeze out the last few bucks out of it.

Many would say diversification of the economy is important, look at Chicago, it didn't go the way of Detroits because it does so many things.

@@thomasjust2663 Excluding the North End of Chicago the rest of the City is a Dump. Plus one of the reasons why Youngstown has been very slow to recover is due to the Pollution caused by the Manufacturing Plants. Even though these plants are 40-50 years and still haven't been used the ground and area around it are still very much contaminated. Once you deiced to become a Manufacturing Town - City your in it for life.

Yes it can be.....but the city must realize that the U.S economy has no appetite to reinvest manufacturing...... the World economy makes it nearly impossible. What will help Youngstown is a Diversified Economy. Meaning not being sold on the belief that United States manufacturing can produce cheap product with high labor cost. Retrained Workforce.

I remember 50 years ago Youngstown was thriving then the 80s came with the crack cocaine and ripped the soul out of Youngstown with crime, addiction, murders, dealers hanging out on street corners with their pagers, hookers, aluminum siding being stripped off abandoned houses, etc. Watched a beautiful city simply lose its people and jobs and the end result is what you see now. Young people need to move to more prosperous states because the rust belt is rusting away. Sure downtown Youngstown got a face over but that doesn't help the poor and jobless.
