I also bought this awesome cam last year ... the quality is outstanding! There are actually two ways to prevent the camera from overheating: 1. Use a dummy battery which is directly connected to the wall or a power bank ... With this setup I've recorded 2h straight! It seems that the major problem is that the battery is getting really warm/hot inside the body, so moving the problem outside the body seems to work! 2. And of corse you could use a Elgato capture device to connect the cam to your computer and record the video with it ... so like using it like a web cam (but with awesome quality) Cheers and keep it up! How did you solve the overheating problem?

The Sony a6000 and the Canon m10 are my favorite budget cameras. APS-C, beautiful image, interchangeable lens, etc. All at a fraction of the cost of current flagships

Bought for myself as a Christmas present in 2016. I love it. Still learning new stuff with it, glad I've kept it and didn't ever sell it. Love the damn thing.

Great review I own Sony A5100, and it still rules, it simply outruns very many good cameras of the date !!

Audio and workflow HELL YES!!!

Hope your channel blow up. I liked the fact that you answer all your subby questions! The reason I subbed.

I bought a second hand A5100 this year and so glad I did it. Same sensor as the one on the A6000. You will be trading the horseshoe mount for a flip up screen and a smaller form factor. Good for people who want to upgrade from shooting on their phone or point and shoot.

After using this camera for 2 years I decided to fix the lack of audio line in issue. There is a video on KZread on how to do this but be super careful when doing this. It worked for me brilliantly and I’m so pleased with the mod. Now I can plug in a mic straight into the camera.

That felt good to hear. A reminder that my "old" a5100 still is holding up and is a great camera hehe :) Also, great vid. Cheers!

I do film in a hot blacksmith shop. But my clips are generally just 1 or 2 minutes on then a few minutes off. Will the overheating still be a big issue?

i just got one in 2020, amazing entry level cam and i am really happy i didnt go with higher options as i am learning so many things, and most importantly , i am having so much fun with it !

Still impressed with the 5100 as a starter. In studio wasn't super sharp (high ISO?), but certainly usable. I feel the need to add I'm used to watching your regular (ish) setup. I'm assuming you weren't using any bright lights either. Outside it was great.

Wow, I'm surprised. There's a huge difference when you're outside. So I'd guess increase the indoor lighting and there will be a nice increase in sharpness.

Yeah outdoors it’s amazing, I based the inside off of the same exposure false color I use with my a7iii. I might need to play around with it some more.

Definitely underrated when it comes to cameras. It's not as great as something like the a7iii but considering the price, it's better than most cameras out there. You can't go wrong with it! I use it as much as I use my a6500

It does but it’s not as good as if you used a dedicated microphone 👍

I actually agree with you on the camera I love my Sony 5100 it has been good to me, I have taken some great shots with it and got some awesome video as well Ive had it a few years now and it still never disappoints. Great video by the way

This would be a really great starter camera, I know people in the tech community would balk at a camera not having 4k but honestly I think for most people 1080p is good enough and the video quality here is really good!

If you care about still shots, these Sony mirrorless cameras ate super for that too. Lots of adapters available for all kinds of retro lenses, being mirrorless the flange is close to the sensor and allows for more lenses to adapt than any other kind of camera

I actually bought this camera 2 days ago with the 16-55mm afs and manual vivitar 50mm. I love it. Haven’t gotten the WiFi transfer feature to work yet, but I’ll get it

Great job, Gary. But why do you like flip up screens? Just kidding, this camera is great. Footage is wonderful, if it only had 4K. Skin tones a little lighter than the A7iii but that's to be expected for the price. I like the new format of you recommending things. Keep it up!

I have the NEX-7 but now I have the A6500 and lenses. Great cameras!

A5100 is great. Good on gimbal because autofocus is near flawless. Separate audio isnt difficult after you do it a while.

I got one a month ago! And it has been great

favorite budget camera: used Panasonic GH3. weather sealed, phenomenal battery life, doesn't overheat, no recording limit.

What's different between 5100 and 5000?

I love this camera. The Flip up screen is a must, I hope to release another update version like this screen. overheat isn't much a prob. you can record external if your in a very hot environment or carry ice pack.

Just found your channel dude and I love your enthusiasm for this camera. But..... I just bought an EOS M and can't afford to watch any more of this video.... (Subscribed though) LOL

I love it and the quality beats low end DSLRs like the canon rebel series

Both are great cameras and it really comes down to, do you want better low light performance (Sony) or do you want an easy to use all in one package (m50) I’d probably go with the m50 if the price of both were equal 👍

I'm in 5100 for 2 years and still totally happy. Amazing picture quality, autofocus and super portability. BUT this heating problem killing me... I'm living in tropical climate and daytime 5100 overheat in just 6-8 minutes... Than wait for 20 and so on. At this moments I wish I live in Norway 😀

Great gimbal camera ... I use one with a Tascam dr10 on a Feiyu a2000. Great setup.

What do I think? I think it's another great video by TEDD! Oh you mean about the 5100? I'm tempted to get one, but I just feel that Sony are going to release a bunch of new stuff soon, so maybe I can get an even better deal soon. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

The m50 is an awesome camera and I'm a big fan of it. I might make more videos about it in the future but nothing currently on the schedule.

The stereo microphones on the A5100 aren't fully appreciated. They're pretty damn good. If the camera isn't across the room, or the room isn't too noisy or prone to echo, I can record voice directly to camera. Slight hiss is removable in post with 1 click. Resulting quality is not only acceptable, it's good. Easy sound and easy video makes for productivity consistent with your main point here. Don't underestimate the audio capability of this camera.

Now imma buy myself one...💕

Got one of these as a gimbal camera ... no need for a viewfinder .. and can use a smartphone for a external monitor with Play Memories app. Using it on a feiyu with handles.

Its really good. I have a Feiyu Tech a2000 with handle set. I use the camera on the gimbal, and put a smartphone on the top of the handle with a bracket and use Play Memories app for framing and starting the recording. Sound comes from mic and external recorder. I just bought an "L" bracket that will allow the same setup without using the handle set for mounting.

Nice video, I wonder how the 5100 works in low light when walking around a city? I noticed most people use camera's (Picture) to vlog, but how would you rate a camcorder as they are intended to make video? For instance comparing similar priced equipment like the Sony FDR AX53 up against a Sony RX100/Canon G7X etc. The camcorder has many points of focus and when its moving seems to focus better. Advantages and disadvantages of using a camcorder v a photo/picture camera.

Hey, I am on a really tight budget and am interested in buying this camera for making music videos on KZread (since most of my audio will be prerecorded, the lack of an audio jack on the camera doesn't bother me) I was wondering about the lens you used while filming the outdoor footage (whether you used the kit lens or not). Also, this camera is available for 500 dollars in my country, is it still worth buying at that price? PS: Love your channel!

I used the sony 28mm f2 lens, it costs about the same as the camera but I really like it. I would see if you can find a good used deal on the a5100 before buying it 👍

sometimes im using my a5100 for some brand video ads...lol...it was that good tho.. even i switch from canon 6D full frame to a5100.. the quality was farrrr better on sony a5100.. just snap sony 35mm f 1.8 or if you need some wide angle with awesome "bokeh" try with sigma 16mm f 1.4 you could check on my profile if you interested for the result

Well I would start off with the kit lens but if you want that blurry background sigma makes a 16mm and 30mm lens for Sony e that looks fantastic.

Old nex-5t (or nex-5r) can do all that a5100 can. It has smaller size, metall body, pdaf with face detection, 1080 60p and touchscreen with ability to rotate 45 degree down and 180 up. Bought one used for only 130$.

I do use my phone as a viewfinder for my Sony HDR-AS50... I just don't know about not using a shotgun mic.

Been watching the channel for a bit now and have finally decided to comment xD I'm currently in a struggle to find a suitiable mid-range-ish camera and am stuck between the a6500 with the pancake lens, the a6300 with a couple more goodies or a non sony like the Lumix GX85 and Fuji X-E3 with 18-55. The dilemma here is that no one camera has the ibis of the panasonics and the af of the sonys. It'd be a godsend if ya can help us peeps out who are looking to go a dive deeper into hybrid shooting with a moderate budget, a battle of the best mid-range 4k cameras, if you will OWO also P.S. ur desc says "but a Sony A5100" xD

I love my Panasonic G7 an awful lot. I'm hoping to move into a GH5 soon and I'll already have my glass for when I do. I'm thinking about a GX85 as a travel cam now that I have decent off camera sound options.

I have the Sony rx100v. The only thing I bought was because the fast auto focus!! Do you really recommend this one or stay with the one I have?

nice firm thank you. btw still I can't make a decision between sony a5100 vs g7x mark2. I like both, but g7x mark2 can take pics in the low light, but a bit annoyed noise that auto focus when it firming it, can hear that. what do you think comparing those two??

you cant power it via usb. and yes, it overheats after 15 minutes

I agree! You can walk with the drone lol plus it's well stabilized too! Hahaha. But the a5100 is great too for its price. I use it as much as my 6500

I was thinking the A5100 but now i'm leaning toward a LX10. As it has 4K and I can just put it in a pocket and go. Plus no over heating that I'm aware of. What's your thoughts on a A5100 vs LX10?

I like the lx10 (I used one for a month or so) it's an awesome little package but the autofocus is terrible. If you dont need autofocus absolutely get the lx10 it's a great camera 👍

You said that the most important things are Audio Quality and Easy workflow. However, this camera lacks both. If you record externally will slow down your workflow...

I was literally in the store with my credit card in hand about to buy this camera when I decided it would be a better idea to do some more research. I'm looking for a second shooter, right now my main camera is a Canon T3i, and I want a second shooter that also works as a back up if rhat camera goes out, since it's getting old.
