The A5100 is now a first class talking head video camera. Great for vlogs, b-roll and webcam. Pair this with an Elgato Cam Link and you have the perfect hi-res webcam for Zoom Video conferences. My Sony A5100 is 5 years old and is still going strong. Great mirrorless camera and now is very very affordable...👍👍👍

I actually have this camera and I like it a lot. I don't use it for the selfies either, I use it for my pictures traveling to get places like Denali Park in Alaska. My issue has been learning the features that the camera has to get the most out of my pictures.

What a fantastic review! I got this camera a while ago to film some videos, but recently I have been thinking of using it for some photography shots. For the type of photo's I'm thinking of taking I think it will be fine; however, I'll definitely be referring to your channel when I can afford to update to a better quality camera in the future.

Nice vid ! The only "con" for me is the lack of dedicated apperture/speed button. But it stills good in 2020. Greetings from Paris.

Amazing narration , crisp and clear

I use it for KZread vids as my main camera it's great, yup we're all skint here in the UK, so for me this was an expensive bit of kit but we'll worth it, I use a dummy battery and a capture card with it, so it can stay on for as long as you like without over heating shut offs, because it's not using the camera to film, it's just relaying the image to your software, OBS in my case, it's a great camera for the particular use that I purchased it for, perfect.

this is my second Sony alpha camera. coming from a NEX-5, this is a substantial upgrade for me. fulfills my needs till today. it's followed me across continents and countries over the years and still works flawlessly.

You cand blurr ur background while streaming, using NVIDIA RTX broadcast, if you have an NVIDA graphics card on your setup.

There are some reviewers who say only the good things about every item they "review". I find you an honest reviewer and I subscribed to your channel. Keep it up bro.

absolutely love this camera, bought it when it was new and teaches me a lot about doing photography didnt use it anymore since my phone takes better low light photos but still uses it as my webcam

i own a7iii and some prime lenses. A5100 is still attractive for its compact size and portability for travel

I was initially looking at the a6xxx-series for photos and videos for youtube, but kinda need a flip-up screen to frame myself correctly when doing fingerstyle guitar-videos. This thing has it, and it’s so small and literally half the price of an a6000 but with the same great sensor. Thinking about pairing it with a Sigma prime.

What lens do you recommend for video on this camera?

Great Vid - You really covered everything so well. I am from India, bought this phone last year, its a upgrade from my sony point n shooter and really an affordable solution to have a DSLR in your pocket, buy a pancake lens and you have a powerful imaging device in your jeans pocket.

@@uncledaddy9207 Bought my a5100 couple of months ago. Got recommended cheap primes, Meike 25mm f1.8 and 7artisans 55mm f1.4. Just recieved Meike 25mm, it should work fine for streams. And it's got that crazy swirly bokeh effect.

A6000 has overheating problems while recording video . How about this one ? Did you test the video recording for long time (for an hour for example ) ?

the Zoom H1n is actually the opposite of a shotgun microphone if we talk about characteristics. it records everything. yes, everything. pretty impressive... i use the a5100 with Fujian and TTArtisan lenses. awesome results.

You did not mention at this camera has touch screen for focus. This was not repeated until the A6500. I am not sure the at A6100 has it.

What camera did you use for this video?

The A5100 is around 450 dollars here, and around 1000 dollars for the A6100. Ofc. I will expect a better camera with the A6100, but it all comes down to what you will use the camera for. (but thats not what I call a small diffrence in price).

I need a camera for YouTubing. The video will be dealt with the tech stuffs and video will be shooted in a studio environment with full lights. Will this camera gives better video quality on that studio environment? Is kit lens (16-50 mm) is sufficient for shooting tech stuff? (tech stuff - hardware boards, pcb,robotics,IoT etc)

Does this thing really have a competitor within this tight budget? I'd love to look out for them also as a 300$ish budget camera.

What do you use to make this video?

I have had the a5100 for about 6 years now. It has been a wonderful camera until honestly the last months. The camera is no longer focusing well. everything is blurry or slightly out of focus. I have no changed any settings (im not very camera savvy so i usually leave it on Intelligent auto or superior auto). Im not sure if the lense itself is going bad or if it is a camera issue (has standard lens that came with camera). Ive tried doing a camera factory setting reset with no real improvement. Not sure what the issue is so debating do i spend money on a replacement lens or flat out replace the camera

I think you should just replace it as whole and look at buying the Sony a6100 , because the a6000 is discontinued , you can only buy the camera with lens until it’s completely finished.

I have this camera and have only used it a handful of times (bought it for vlogging but I don't even vlog) The settings are a bit advanced for me also. I would do a trade if you'd be interested: I have the box it came in, strap, and two batteries for it. I was actually looking into selling it and buying a canon instead.

Better video than gopro? In which regards? Yes, colors are better and maybe dinamic range. But what about resolution? My A5100 has not so sharp 1080p, while my Gopro6 has sharp 4k/60 quality! And not a single word about fast overheating in this video. Why?

A power should would give more zoom, but this range would give better picture quality

What about the over heating issue? I can NEVER finish a long vlogg or video. Literally only lasts 15 mins before it “overheats” and turns off. How do i fix this? Ive tried everything. Or is it defective?

I don't recall having heating issues with it, and I found even with heating warning , it didn't turn off. I don't think its a camera you can let roll for hours.

@@MelissaHillikerNPets Dummy Battery supposedly helps. And if that's not an option because you want to be portable flipping open the screen and bringing up the flash supposedly helps a little bit. Lower framerates will also help I think.

As far as the research I've done on it, it doesn't overheat. Apparently that's why it is a popular camera for live streamers. I know it's an older camera but I'll be getting one just for live streaming quality and long time length of streaming without overheating. Check out some videos from Alpha Gaming he talks alot about the Sony a5100

Really nice video. In terms of transferring pics, Panasonic has an app that does that and u can even tether pics to ur phone as u shoot...

From a motorcyclist's perspective... I really don't trust the video stabilization on this thing to be anywhere near what my GoPro can do on my motorcycle...

Depends on your needs, I would go with canon if you don't wanna edit your photos. And I would go with the sony if you wanna do heavy editing to your colors.

What if I will buy a bright lens to it? If low light photos will be good then?

Yes. He's saying the camera is bad in lowlight when he's using a slow lens, of course it's going to be bad in lowlight. Get something like the Sigma 16mm f1.4

You could get a Sony NEX F3, 5R or 5T for cheaper. Only thing this has going for it is better autofocus.

It's also hella cheaper used on eBay.

Bought this for $180 w/o lens. I Use it for webcam, it’s awesome!

My Sony 5100 records only 8 minutes of video and then turns off from overheating. How can something like this be on the market?

Have you tried using a Class 10 SD card? My cannon used to shut off out of nowhere at different times and I found out I wasn't using a high enough speed SD card. Other than that these cameras won't record for more than 30 minutes, it's a setting the manufacturer puts on them so it keeps them out of the video camera category

Popping out the flash and the screen supposedly helps a bit and you can get some Dummy Batteries and power it externally. The battery produces a lot of heat and the dummy battery with a adapter should let you film for a very long time. Or so I've heard, it's a common complaint, but I don't actually own one.
