    Thanks for this helpful video. Overheating issue: my Sony A6000 (connected to a $20 usb capture card like the Elgato cam link) was overheating quite badly even though I had a dummy battery, set to movie mode, Airplane mode set to off... My solution (which works well so far - no overheating): 1. I DIDN'T set it to movie mode, used manual mode (so the live view is like I'm taking a photo). My thinking is that it's just showing the view - not possibly trying to process some video 2. removed the SD card 3. Set finder/monitor to "view finder" 4. File format "mp4" 5. Aspect ratio 16:9 6. Focus mode: manual focus (perhaps the AF may cause some overheating) 7. Steady shot "off" - camera on a tripod - so unnecessary 8. MF assist "off" 9. I have a small, quiet battery operated fan pointed at the area behind the monitor screen 10. Pulled the monitor screen away from the camera body 11. used dummy battery 12. Airplane mode "off". I have also been able to run the camera for more than 30 minutes (that's because I'm not in movie mode I think). My overall thinking was to minimise any unnecessary in camera processes and to physically cool the camera.

    I found a 8.7v DC dummy battery and a waterproof bicycle battery pack that uses 18650 batteries, it has 8.7v and USB outputs ... (i actually bought an extra USB dummy battery too that outputs 8.4v) The cost for both items here in Saigon was $20 USD. If I leave the batt door open and the screen up, can get 29.5 minutes every time. The heat indicator comes on at about 26min, but the camera shuts down at 29:50 which I think is its recording limit per file. When I get time I'll show the components on my channel "theTexpatinSaigon". Heat here is such a problem I use the dummy battery nearly all the time. I just hang it from tripod or gimbal and it's really no problem at all. Cheers ... this video inspired me find a solution here.

    Hello Arron! I have a sony a5100 modified with exernal cooling fan to prevent it from overheating. When using original sony FW-50 battery to record videos, it can record up to 30 minutes without any problem. ( the overheat icon will pop up but it will never shows "internal temp. high, allows it to cool" message.) When using Dummy battery , the message "internal temp high allows it to cool" always pop up at 5 minute "without the overheat icon" (exactly shut it self off at 5 Minute 0 Second everytime when using dummy battery...) Dont know if you have these kind of problem?

    I use a small cooling pad put where the monitor was after it is turned up. Also the flash is open. Recording the hdmi signal outside the camera is the best solution in terms of avoiding heat. At home no problem- just use the pc or Mac. But out in the nature: the 5100 is not the right cam for this- which is a shame cause it is a great little machine.

  • @Ivan-hy2iv
    @Ivan-hy2iv Жыл бұрын

    IIt is possible and necessary to solve the problem! To do this, you need to disassemble the camera (there is a video on KZread of the disassembly of the Sony alpha a5100 (disassembly)) in order to apply a copper plate to the processor, lubricated with thermal paste. then you can use fresh thermo pads. well, you also need to remove the sticker from the case where the screen is located, and if you want, you can additionally cool it with a 5v cooler, move the screen away, of course, but the cooler is needed for a long 4k video for 1080 and passive is enough

  • @walkerpalker

    @walkerpalker

    Жыл бұрын

    How thick is that copper plate would be? Isn’t it easier to use good thermal pad? I’m afraid to damage any electronic parts due to copper is a high electric… and no move protection to avoid short circuit when you installing the metal plate housing. Moreover with time it can move or for example when you’re transporting the “shakes” can physically damage the processor or something around. I would only change thermal pads to bigger ones and make Wi-Fi cable goes not through the processor Thank you

  • @Ivan-hy2iv

    @Ivan-hy2iv

    Жыл бұрын

    @@walkerpalker To avoid this, you can insulate with kapton tape, by itself and even more so with a smeared thermal paste, there is nowhere to move, plus the body is pressed. The thickness should be selected as well as thermal pads. If there are good gaskets like Thermalright or good Chinese ones. But it is better to use honey, or even make a homemade radiator of the right dimensions by itself, you will have to change the design of the case, well, break it in short, there will be a homemade radiator under the screen, and not a factory plate with a sticker. The radiator can be taken from old computer parts, the main thing is that it fits if something is removed, grind it, etc. so that it does not interfere with the screen when closing it is not so difficult

  • @walkerpalker
