Woodturning: Dust to dust, ashes to ...... vase?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This vase started out great, went downhill, recovered, and ended up a winner! Made from a branch from an ash tree taken down in Olney, Maryland, it was handmade in Rockville, Maryland. It includes pyrography and dye.

    Hi Rick, the wood dye looks like a much quicker way, than burning, to color the outside black. Great video as always. I have the 75 mm Record Power jaws and don't know how to use them properly. They are supposed to be for big bowls etc, but because they are so thick a properly sized tenon, for the jaws, seems too small so I end up useing them for spindle turning, but then they are too thick to get really close. If you want to make a video o how to use them, I will definitely watch it :) Thanks Rob

  • @RickTurnsWoodturning

    @RickTurnsWoodturning

    I have those jaws too, and they're my favorite. For really large bowls, I use 100mm or 120mm on a different chuck, but the 75mm is still my favorite. Thanks for watching and commenting, Rob.

    Good job on the vase. Your mixing the colors red, green and blue to come up with other colors reminds me of RGB electron guns in the older CRT (cathode ray tube) TV sets. Apparently you know more than just wood turning. You wood lathe guys amaze me how you can turn a cylinder without a carriage and a taper without a top slide on a carriage. You wood lathe guys must be artists. But I did notice that you do use a steady rest. I don't know if you used to smoke, or you just did too much wood turning without a mask, but you sound like I did before they put me on oxygen. BE CAREFUL!
