It's not an insult to be called a step mom or a stepmother. Step mom / stepmother has become an inherently bad word that is imprinted on children's minds before they even HAVE a stepmother. From Disney movies, to Saturday morning cartoons, to sitcoms, to social commentary, to social media. Let's stop this horrible stigma. I was sexually assaulted when I was 14. I told my therapist about it and she broke the confidentiality rule by telling my mom. My mom yelled and grounded me saying it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t been sneaking out. For almost 3 years I blamed myself and didn’t tell anyone else. I’m sorry that happened to you. While I don’t blame you for what happened this is a great lesson to other children to listen to their parents since there are a lot of evil people around. This is the main reason why my parents never allowed me to do sleepovers. I’m 19 so I can actually see why some parents may seem over protective, but some parents also lack explaining to their child why they’re over protective which in turn makes the children go out and discover why for themselves.

"Getting over" trauma is a funny thing. Does it mean forgetting about it completely? Or becoming emotionally detached from it? I dont think that anyone gets over it. Because even if you forget. Theres still a piece that remembers. Even if you emotionally detach. There are still questions and behaviors that linger from it. I'm a 4th generation rape victim. My mother and great grandmother dont remember the assault. But there was clear evidence it happened. My grandmother was a product of it. My grandmother was raped several times. I myself remember some of the assaults that happened to me. But theres one I cant figure out, I have a deformities caused by blunt trauma. It's small and doesnt effect me much. But my gyno confirmed what type of trauma it wouldve had to have been. I was not born with it. Tho I dont remember when it happened. It haunts me almost more than the assaults I remember. I dont even have enough pieces to let go of. Just questions and fears

I wish the best for her and her family. It’s unfortunate that most families would just sweep it under the rug. The fact that she not only believed him, but recognized the signs of his predatory behavior and got him immediate help to protect the lives of not only her son, but so many other children. This is how we prevent sexual abuse. This story is especially touching because I was also sexually assaulted myself when I was 12. It’s not something that victims just “get over.” It ruins lives.

TenThumbs Productions A prosecutor could attempt to use act of conspiracy which means they don’t do the crime but plan to. It would be difficult to prove though because you can’t really prosecute on a want rather they would have to find evidence that someone actively planned to commit a crime as in a journal or purchasing of equipment for the crime. It’s a legal black hole that’s difficult to prove but evidentiary if proven.

The cycle of violence isn't broken by simple choices when you also have been damaged during formative years of your life. It is during that time that you are influenced so greatly that your level of what is normal is not normal at all. Not to mention brain damages can cause these behaviors, lobe damages, abnormalities etc. Yes, choices are something everyone has, however some people do not understand those choices, what their consequences are, or what to do about them.

Christina Griz Abuse victims typically see no issues in their behavior when they get older. It would not surprise me if what that man did to Robbie scarred him for life. So if he more than likely was abused and his brain physically can’t remember. Our brains can produce things called amnesiac walls. Inevitably what they do is block certain memories in our brains from consuming us. Most people go their entire lives without realizing that they have some kind of trauma built up. This boy is self-aware though.. He knows something possibly happened. Honestly, I think he can be helped. I think with the right treatment and care he could live in society again. But that could take time.. probably a lot in this case.

I believe the father is being quiet because he’s on the autism spectrum, so his social cues don’t function in the same way as everyone else’s. Probably why he didn’t pick up on the signs of abuse from the mentioned man like the stepmother did. But I’m not sure if that’s entirely true or not though, I saw another comment saying that the step mom had mentioned the father having autism on her face book page.
