@@Dustwitcho this and you've defeated the point of all mental institutions and the livelihoods of all therapists. There are probably a good hundred-thousand out there who have strong sexual inclinations towards pre-pubescent children. You say throw all of them in jail because 'they are a menace to society' (remains unproven, we need to see if they'd act upon it - they only become a menace when they do the action). But if we do this, why shouldn't we throw a kid whose harshly killed an animal in his youth or has psychopathic tendencies into jail, since they have a high likelihood of committing murder, the worst and most dangerous menace to society? If everyone who has any innate attraction towards wrong ought to be thrown in jail, you're going to be imprisoning a lot of people who could otherwise be helped and somewhat rehabilitated. It fundamentally seems to go against rehabilitation. You rush to there being no cure when there are plenty. Isolation, therapy, and chemically lessening his libido are all effective ways to chances of abuse.

The fact that robbie felt safe enough to open up about that with his step mom and he isn’t mad that she put him in the hospital shows how much he trusts her, and the fact that she immediately took action and took him out of the home shows her other kids how much they can trust her. There grounds to discharge him is that they can’t help him so there’s no point him being there. They’ve suggested having the boy prosecuted and having him in a state facility. But the parents have to do that once he’s discharged so he would still be out for a while.... and if they don’t come to collect him he will go into an independent living situation or a child home which would both give him plenty of opportunity to re-offend. He shouldn’t be discharged he’s admired himself that he’s a danger to children and would re-offend if he was given the opportunity....

Unfortunately, I think he already understands it. Based on what I’ve seen of this case, it’s likely he was abused by the other man (the one who specifically only wanted him around) when he was a small child, and then forced to “get over it”, told the horrible things he says about his victims just moving on, how nothing will happen if someone is abused, or how both parties like the abuse. He was forced to internalize that message to survive, and then was never un-taught, and so he continues to accept it as reality even though it isn’t. Not an excuse for what he’s doing, it’s still wrong and there’s no if’s, ands or buts about it, however I’ve found that 2 things can be true. In this case, it’s true that this boy is a threat to society and needs to be treated as such, but it’s also true that he’s like this because of trauma he endured as a small child. It’s horrible…

This makes me so angry. I was assaulted for years as a child by a teenager with a list of other victims before and after me. (Some admitted and some rumors) No one ever did anything. CPS would "talk to him" but never followed up. Sounds like this kid has already ruined lives and no one wants to get justice for them. He needs help...and punished. At the end of the day he hurt people.

They want to press charges. He’s admitted to molesting 2 girls. There a very high probability that he’s also a victim of assault. @@mcetiger the parents seem to be doing what they can but the institute he's in wants to release him onto the public. Pressing charges also shouldn't be up to his parents. The courts should have pressed them regardless. The courts and the mental health center are trying to pass off the situation to someone else to deal with and that's how people are able to continue hurting others with no consequences.

As a child victim of pedophilia, I'm so glad that Dr.Phil has done an episode on this and that the parents are taking action. My whole life I've been trying to understand the psychology behind these people and it has disappointed me that this field has not been understood enough yet. I've read about young pedophiles who want to get help but they are continually confronted with obstacles and an institution that doesn't want to deal with them. But guess what its their family's and the victims that suffer when society just points their nose up at this demographic and just ignores this behaviour because its too "disgusting" for them to deal with. Please blow the lid on pedophilia, because it is rampant. And more pedophiles need to go and get help. This behaviour is abnormal and not good for society.

I’m not even a parent but my heart broke for the Mum when she started talking about how the treatment centres were ‘giving up on him (getting better)’. Also I don’t know if this is worth anything, but I think it’s a good thing that this teen can talk so openly about this issue with his mum. I think it’s good that he is willing to say that he thinks he’s still a danger to kids. I honestly have no idea what causes someone to think this way - for example is it genetics? Brain chemistry? Experiencing certain events? Look, I was molested many many times as a young child by an adult male in my family. I’m NOT saying that this is ‘ok’! But I do wonder if it’s something we just haven’t caught up with scientifically or ethically... For example, I’m straight, but I believe that for those who are gay or have gender identity issues, it’s NOT something they can just “stop thinking about and never think about it again”. Fortunately, some parts of the world now accept those who are homosexual on the same level as “normal people” (no one is normal!) We’ve even managed to legalise gay marriage and the option for a couple of the same gender to raise a child. Even just 50 years ago (and heck, still happening) many people think of homosexuality as “disgusting” or “un-human”. They’re not treated as equals and keeping it a secret because it’s “bad” ends up destroying more lives than simply the life of that individual themselves. So I wonder, are we perhaps just 100 or 200 years away from figuring out what causes predators to think and feel the way this 15 year old does? We certainly don’t accept it and I can completely understand why a young man like him should be forcibly prevented from harming more kids! But because society (heck, even in prison) has such a strong stigma against child molesters, it’s amazing (and rare) that this teen is even admitting and talking about his thoughts, feelings and whether or not he thinks he’s still a danger to others. Most people like him hide everything and instead of admitting they have a high risk of hurting another child, they just continue to do it (even if they don’t like that they’re doing it) and it remains a secret for a long time/forever. If more people like this teen were given the time and respect of proper medical and psychiatric care, who knows what we could learn? For example, say it’s caused by a genetic default. I know the ethical issues are very high regarding this subject, but in the future, will we perhaps genetically modify our offspring so that they don’t carry this gene? Like I said I’m not a genius or a scientist or a doctor - so everything I’ve just said could be 100% wrong 🤷‍♀️ But I just thought I’d share my thoughts after realising what a distressing position this teen and his parents must be in right now (and no, I haven’t mentioned the victims, but ONLY because I can’t just keep writing FOREVER! So disclaimer - yes I think victims (and potential victims) ARE just as important (if not more so) than abusers and they 100% need to be helped, protected, advocated for and treated as humanely as possible whilst they try to deal with what I personally think are horrific childhood experiences!)

flinty b but what if they do? The point she was making and I agree with is how can they get help if they’re always being pushed away? Like we don’t even know why it’s caused in the brain so like constantly pushing something away bcuz “were” scared isn’t helping the victims. Maybe we should learn more about why they’re the way they are to even see if there is a possibility for recovery. I mean there’s documentaries on KZread where people who suffer from the thoughts suppress themselves and go to constant therapy to NOT act on the erge. Of course it’s disgusting but what happens if you like this mother give birth to one? Unless you’re a heartless mother who doesn’t love your kids it would be hard to hear everyone just giving up on your kid. Especially when they’re so open, maybe people need to see the openness as a different sign, idk maybe a way of trying to call out for help?
