Why Parents Of 15-Year-Old Say They Fear He’s A Pedophile

Ойын-сауық

Kristin and Rick say they are concerned their 15-year-old son, Robbie, may be a pedophile. Kristin says her stepson admitted to her that he had strong sexual urges toward children over a year ago.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Chaos in your life?
“He said the only reason he hadn’t offended them was because they were going to tell,” says Kristin.
WATCH: Psychologist Says Early Developmental Trauma May Lead To Hypersexualized Behavior In Adolescents
Rick says, “It was just such a shock that I didn’t know how to deal with it.”
The couple says they began supervising Robbie 24/7 and tried to find him a treatment facility placement. Then, says Kristin, Robbie threatened that if he didn’t get help that day - he would rape one of his siblings, “So we took him straight to the hospital.”
Kristin and Rick say Robbie has been in treatment for the past year and is due to come home soon, and they don’t know what to do. Can Dr. Phil help?

I'm not a mental health professional but I think that sometimes people have OCD which can cause obsessive thoughts regarding things which they consider to be horrible and deep down are afraid of doing those things. At such a young age you can become obsessed with sexual ideation when the body is surging with hormones. If this child was left to his own on the internet this could become worse. Once the child becomes used to getting satisfaction from daydreaming about these ideas it would be really difficult to break this thought pattern which provides pleasure but it all started with obsessive thoughts. By going on Dr. Phil and making it extremely easy for people to discern his identity? The kid is the one I commend. He's having these thoughts and urges that he knows are wrong, and it took a lot of humility and courage for him to tell someone. It really amazes me that the parents didn't put him in treatment immediately. He had to tell them he was going to act on those urges unless they got him help right then. I don't like the fact that they went on Dr. Phil. People can figure out who he is, especially in their hometown. Now, even if he never acts on those urges, he's going to be treated like a criminal.

It's gotta be the internet. Some boys and girls go onto the internet without being properly monitored by their parents and come across wrong unacceptable acts on porn sites probably. 😢. It's very sad that porn is even allowed in our society. Because it might give someone ideas. Especially if the child is not monitored or given proper guidance. THIS is why everyone who is a parent should be using parental monitoring software! To protect and guide and get ahold of any red flags in time before it moved into action! These parents are heroic but I hope that they told the boy he was loved before they left him at the hospital. Just for his feelings sake even if they didn't. Sometimes you gotta set limits. Correction: with both children and adults you Must set appropriate limits and boundaries and cease contact if they're deviant. I learned that the hard way. I had to cut contact with a person. Sad that some people get that way and there's basically no way to get ANY actual help before something bad happens usually. Because parents are either in denial or just want to murder their child possibly.

I also hate this American culture of bringing personal stories OF OTHER PEOPLE on the news and internet. Maybe it's good if stories like this are told, but only if the person you're talking about is ok with it and wants to talk about it themselves. Since this is a child, that just can't be the case here. And you really should be able to either find adults who have went through it or a psychologist. I also don't like how this is portrayed in general. The music and the cuts and effects are so overdramatic that it looks more like an episode of the onion than anything we should talk about seriously. It's such an important topic, we need better coverage than this. Stop focusing on individuals like this for drama, show what causes this, what the symptoms can be and what to do about it.

You can have a determination and will to do something horrible but the good part of your brain that keeps you in check throws obstacles in your way. Think about brain like a democratic system of neurons that each gives a vote before making a decision as a whole brain. There are no 100% bad people. Its always a "bad" part of the brain that hijacks the rest. Therapist ussualy want to make the good part of the brain take control over the bad part in problematic individuals. So in a way everyone is redeemable in terms of brain function, in the eyes of society tho...not so much. Money is also a big issue on top of that

I went to a mental hospital when I was 13-14 and there was a kid across my hallway around 7-8 give or take, he would openly tell us how he was in there for touching his sibling, assaulting and would threaten us too, it made us all others sick and wanted to beat the kid (we were kids) but still knew what was wrong from right, he kept lying to the hospital saying he got better but we knew he didn't and they let him go home smh

This is giving me chills left and right. As hard as it is for the parents I commend them for taking extra measures to do every thing they can to not only help their son, but protecting other children. I am SO glad he was honest with his parents and told them how he feels. I'm a survivor. I wasn't fortunate enough avoid SA from one of my siblings. Although my secret came out to someone who could do something about it, my sibling denied it. Nothing was done to make sure it didn't continue. I was too young to know better. Threats are very scary to a young child who believes everything they're told. When I was 13 I started carrying a knife waiting for the next time I would be approached. When that happened I took a stand and pulled out the knife and stated what I was going to do with it if he came near me, and I would tell everybody I could until somebody did something about it. He left me alone from that day on. It shouldn't be up to a child to figure out what to do, how to avoid the assaulter, etc. It's not always as simple as telling a parent. Keep a very close eye on your kids. Kids can be sneaky just like adults. Things can be going on under your own roof that you would be shocked to find out.

The boy was about to become a second Jeffery Dahmer but because he was born into the right environment where he can open up his issues to his parents and they acted so quickly, the boy was saved from becoming a terrible person. l can't imagine if he was born into a different family where he was too afraid to tell his urges to his parents, this would have ended up so terrible. This is why we need more parents like these, bless them!

Dahmer was not a pedo. He was not aroused by little boys. He liked muscular men. He preferred adult-looking boys even if they're underage. He said that he thought the 14 year old victim was actually an adult and was shocked to learn the victim's real age in the interrogation room. And i don't think he was lying. He had no reason to lie after that point.
