Psychologist Says Early Developmental Trauma May Lead To Hypersexualized Behavior In Adolescents

Ойын-сауық

Robbie, 15, has been living in a mental health facility for the past year. The teenager admits he has sexual urges toward children and has confessed to molesting two victims.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Teen in crisis?
Robbie’s parents, Rick and Kristin, say that Robbie, who is about to be released from treatment, has told them that he is likely to re-offend. Noting that they have five other children, the couple says they can’t bring Robbie home and don’t know where to turn.
WATCH: Woman Says She Felt ‘Angry And Ashamed’ After Stepson Confessed To Molesting Victims
Dr. Phil introduces the couple to Dr. Daniel Sanderson, a psychologist and Clinical Director at STAR Guides Wilderness, a program that works exclusively with adolescents who are experiencing issues with compulsive sexual behaviors.
“Let’s don’t give up on this kid yet,” says Dr. Sanderson, who has offered Robbie an opportunity to take part in the program.
Watch the video above to find out what Dr. Sanderson and Dr. Phil say about how early developmental trauma and neurological delays may lead to hypersexualized patterns and behaviors in adolescents.

Sorry you have to go through this. I feel bad the father is not completely there either but it must be hard. Also, please look into these programs Dr.Phil offers. People need to realize this isn’t just an isolated case. Hyper-sexualization in children is a huge problem that can cause uncontrollable sexual behavior. And it also has many causes that we have yet to identity and control, like how porn is so easily accesible for children, sexual focus in the entertainment industry, internet predators, lack of proper sexual education, mental health issues, and god knows what else.

  • @haeymzmdlcccc

I'd like to point out that it's more likely that easy acess to pornography and other mental health issues caused by trauma during early childhood might be the key factors to hypersexualization in young teenagers. It's more likely because most of the times when I've came across another kid like that they admit that they either have watched too much porn (tbf I do believe that porn itself is a negative thing since it affects everyone) or that they have been m0lested. one of my friends is like this, I can see this pattern happening in his situation too. this doesn't come out of nowhere.

It seems like they would just be putting more kids in danger by sending him there. Child predators don’t just stop being child predators even if you take them to an outdoor treatment treatment program which is basically just another “troubled teen” program.

This is a terrible situation but Phil is not a therapist or a psychologist. He’s a tv personality who cares about money. Also those “camps” are torture camps, no matter what, no person should go there. The parents should’ve went to a proper therapist then go on a show exploiting their kid.

  • @Lindseyisloony

If this boy wasn't already receiving treatment than where was he?? It terrifies me that they think that a child who's urges are that extreme could be sent to some camp for children with abnormal sexual urges for "targeted treatment" and then be safely released! Every part of the description of him is VERY DISTURBING on multiple levels and suggest that he's dangerous in more ways than one. Telling his parents might be a sign that on some level he does understand that his urges are bad and scary but that idea isn't consistent with the reports given to his parents... Sometimes people only openly admit to terrible things about themselves because they don't actually see the problem with them.

They should sterilize him when he’s older. I would respect the young man if he did that voluntarily. I know they can’t legally force it, but someone should talk to him about that when he’s 18. He can’t ever have a normal relationship. I just don’t think those urges will ever go away. He should be watched and checked on or tracked. Since he already hurt 2 kids, from what I’ve read.
