    Did you not watch the video? He's not exactly the noble and heroic Batman we can all instantly recognize. This Batman suffers severely from PTSD and is a compulsive drinker who is broken at his core Ben's Batman has been consumed by his immense anger that's he developed a strong sense of vindication towards criminality and Superman, as he forgoes his moral code due to countless years of fighting a relentless, yet ultimately futile crusade. Again, this is *not* the Batman we all know and love - this is not a Batman true to the mainline comics. Affleck's Batman is an elseworld take of the caped crusader. He's more so akin to TDKR's incarnation of the character (as Zack took *heavy* inspiration from that fantastic comic).

That, and Lex's plan is much easier to digest, along with it being hinted at that this is actually Lex Jr, though I prefer it being seen as a modernization of Lex himself. In behind the scenes clips, it states he is based off of Birthright Lex, which its a pretty great adaptation if that's the case The theatrical is a broken mess to me because nothing made sense, but the ultimate edition is a 10/10 for me

Lex Luthor has god complex and creates literal destruction Doomsday, US army literally tries to nuke the terrorists off to keep power in order, Batman tries to kill Superman becoz..(u have explained in the video). Literally everyone is trying to stop the violence by creating violence. Today I have seen JL and I am very disappointed with it. It's bad it's not a Zack Snyder movie.

    @alexander soelaiman Alright. We have our opinions, I’ve seen these movies, and there are some great things in them, but I also see some bad things in them. I didn’t say they were completely terrible movies, at the level of Batman & Robin, Superman IV or so on, but I could never fathom them being on the same level as the movies you listed, because they are some of the greatest works of film period, and have either simple or complex stories where the directors knew their vision and were able to put time into making whatever they could do matter. For Batman vs Superman in particular, it felt like eight movies jammed into one, and had a Luthor that I saw was trying too hard to be as good as Heath Ledger’s Joker.

    An excellent breakdown of what I believe to be an absolute masterpiece. Even singling out some of the most important lines. You do really have to pay attention to dialogue in Zack Snyder's movies as lines are so specifically placed to build the character arcs. One of the most important lines wasn't even spoken by any main character. When Clark Kent is investigating in Gotham he strikes up a conversation with two people about the whereabouts of the lady who testified before congress about the desert killings. The man cautions him to leave Gotham or he may be in danger, referring to Batman, and the lady replies "Only people scared of him got reason to be." The incorruptible Batman. Subtle but poignant. This will always be my favorite superhero movie because I "get it". Very disappointed with how things turned out with Justice League. A lot of shady things went down and that's a damn shame. #ReleasetheSnyderCut!!

    @@thesmartonesback2650 Batman and Superman disagree on a lot of things in this movie! Are you kidding me? Their approach on how to help people couldn't be further apart. But their goal is the same. Do you really think Batman would show up to a Congressional hearing? Bwahaha!!! Not a chance. But Superman did because he plays by the rules. Batman does the things that need to get done to cut through the shit and get the job done and that violates civil liberties. Clark brings this up in his conversation with Bruce at Lex's party. Clark sees Batman as a reckless vigilante and Bruce sees Superman as a threat to all mankind. Did you actually watch the movie? I think the only issues with these films were outside of Snyder's control, those being rushed production and way too many subplots crammed into the film for the sake of expanding the DCEU, and we all know who made all the decisions. The impatient WB, they're the ones that screwed over this film. And don't even get me started on Justice League... Ugh.

    + ghrimsaad This movie does have some flaws, but none of them have to do with any of what you have listed. Almost all of the answers to your questions are in the film. 1. Lex's motivation? Were you sleeping when Lex literally explained his disdain for gods. "If god is all powerful, he isn't all good" & "If God is all good he isn't all powerful". Those lines are one of the most philosphical lines I have ever heard to be honest. 2. One reason would be that. The kryptonian ship recogonized Zod's body. He was in with Lex. Again, this is rather a minor detail. 3.I don't even understand what you are on about with "1 v 1" thing. This doesn't even make any sense. 4.To get superman and batman to square off. Superman was the happy good good guy. Batman was the good bad type of guy. Please watch the film, the extended. 5. Seriously? You didn't hear the lines about Bats condemning the people to die or anything in the news and through alfred? 6. In regards to the robbery: This is not even a valid criticism. This is upto the director and personal biases. 7. Yeah..like literally every shitty films Marvel has shitted out recently. Mark my words, marvel is gonna get shittier and shittier. The superhero franchise will die like the westerns. Why because its the same shit, same tone, nothing different, all mediocre films. This is meant to be a comic book movie. Ask yourself, if you were to translate raganrok and BvS into two different comic book, which one will read and feel like a comic book? Definitely not Raganrok.

    Batman V. Superman was all about character development. Batman needed an on screen moment to show his brilliance and problem solving abilities so that he could be a believable leader in the Justice League movie. Being skeptical of Superman was completely in Bruce Wayne's character. It was interesting to see Batman actually fighting to kill, as this is something that Batman would not normally do. In his mind Bruce was actually fighting for all of humanity as he was convinced that Superman was the greatest threat Earth had ever faced. He wasn't acting with moral ambiguity. He had absolute conviction. Once he saw the humanity within Superman he quickly changed his mind. They instantly understood and respected each other in that moment. Man of Steel was all about character growth and Superman coming to terms with his powers and abilities. Batman V. Superman was all about Batman coming to term with his place in the world after the arrival of Superman.

    I think you give audiences too little credit. People don't dislike BvS because it was tragic. The Toby Maguire Spiderman films, the Dark Knight Trilogy, and Logan were all smash hits, more so than their happier counterparts. I might argue that their sadness and darkness actually contributed to that success.

  • @IndecisiveJR

    @IndecisiveJR

    6 жыл бұрын

    Chad Wilson the Spider-Man trilogy and Dark knight and Logan weren’t complex their great films and are intelligently made but they aren’t complex. The Spider-Man trilogy and dark knight in particular beat you over the head with the message of the overall film I mean how many times was “with great power comes great responsibility” stated in those movies and how many monologues did Tobey speak summing up the moral or lesson the films were trying to teach. As for dark knight how many times does Alfred state the purpose or batman or what it means to be a hero or how he sees the Joker (some men just want to watch the world burn). Logan is great but it’s pretty straight forward for the most part. The only thing that separates it from other films is it’s an ending to Logan’s story, the characters besides X-23 and the other children die, and it’s more of a father daughter story. These films for as great as they are made all their points, dilemmas, and morals abundantly clear and very little is ever subtle with those movies.

  • @jearn11

    @jearn11

    J-Rich I didn't say anything about complexity. I was contending with the statement towards the end of the video that suggested audiences don't like BvS because of its tragedy. That being said, I think the Dark Knight Trilogy is fantastically and technically complex as a film. But it's not subtle, if that's what you mean. It seems like you're confusing "complexity" with both "subtlety" and "darkness" here.

  • @SmedZeppelin

    @SmedZeppelin

    6 жыл бұрын

    J-Rich I think there is a difference between subtle themes and projecting a theme onto the movie. The movies you mention might beat you over the head with their messages but at least they are consistent in them. MoS and BvS show signs of trying to hold up an actual point and theme, but they are too inconsistent as to whether or not they actually want to follow through with them for them to really mean anything and run their points home

  • @IndecisiveJR

    @IndecisiveJR

    6 жыл бұрын

    SmedZeppelin Man of Steel’s theme was the idea that Jor-el saw Superman had the potential to be a symbol of hope and though many people will fall and stumble (Batman and humanity) they will eventually follow you (Justice League). Batman v superman was Batman’s movie for the most part and the story of his redemption as well as humanity’s so while man of Steel in my mind is from the viewpoint of the protagonist or Superman, much of batman v superman is from the viewpoint of batman and humanity and their redemption and the idea that batman, Wonder Woman etc. have the potential to be better than killers and the tragedies that caused them to lose their faith in heroism and the idea humanity isn’t worth it. I’m not seeing the inconsistency? I’m not a dceu fanboy and act like the film doesn’t have its flaws and I do like the mcu as well, but as far as the themes of these movies they are done well (besides Suicide Squad which didn’t have one and Wonder Woman who screwed it up in the third act).

  • @darkknightdoctrine

    @darkknightdoctrine

    100% agree. The reason the dark knight trilogy was so successful was because it took a risk of going to dark. And it was great, the character batman in those films were great, joker was great. All because it made sense and the dark sides of the movie made sense. Batman v Superman just got all that stuff wrong in trying to do so. BvS could have been better in that way but failed.

    I loved it. I think that it would be better if it din't have to tie in directly into Justice League. For general audience there are few problems beside studio involvement. One: Snyder does not make movies. He animates comics. You could screenshot every scene from BvS, paste it into comics panel and it would not look out of place. Two: most people do not want to accept to what level Bruce Wayne is damaged and broken. Neurotic hunt for Superman, extreme violence, abrupt Martha mood swing... Those are all signs of deeply deranged person. It is hard to comprehend what looks like to spend 20 years of fighting crime and loosing that battle, loosing friends, witnessing lowest human desires. "One bad day away from being me". That bad day did happen to Bruce. From Justice League trailers I came to conclusion that Bruce is not as damaged anymore. I can suspend belief for flying aliens with laser eyes and indestructible goddess and what not but if Bruce goes from full on psycho to friendly neighbor Batman in less then 10 years and without heavy medication, well, that's too much for me.

    Here's what another KZreadr said about BVS in a Nutshell: "The Batman in BVS is no longer Batman, and Superman is NOT Superman, yet". What that means is Snyder's vision was intentionally set up this way. He wanted Superman with no experience, raw, and taken from the perspective of the world, and how the world would portray a being capable of destroying the entire planet. Snyder wanted MOS to BECOME Superman in the following sequals. Batman/Bruce Wayne lost everything. His parents, his friends, Robin. Think about that. This is a Broken Batman. BVS was about HIS redemption, and coming back to the Batman we once knew. I highly recommend the ultimate addition.

    BvS can be seen as deep as you want it to be. To me it is a true experience of a live action comic book novel with a ”dark”, realistic Nolan:verse meeting scifi. Snyder makes visual storytelling as a art.

    I loved this movie. "if we there is even a 1% chance he is our enemy we must take it as a certainty." Batman is correct in that assertion. He is just incorrect, there is a 0% chance that Superman is the enemy. That's the point Batman can't understand at this point. And the Martha point is soooo valid. This is the one flaw in Luther's plan that no-one could have foreseen and accounted for. Who would have connected the fact that both Clark's and Bruce's mothers' names were the same? And that was the trigger for Bruce, something that no-one would have foreseen and accounted for. Genius!

    I once needed a prop for a short film that I was working on. The cover of the "Book of the Dead", a major plot device, so needless to say it needed to look good. I was incredibly low budget at the time, so I asked my grandfather for help. My grandfather was an incredible artist and painter, gladly obliging. I gave him the instruction to "Draw a face on the cover". My grandfather gave me back the book a week later, with a design on it that looked nothing like a face, with seven eyes and dark spirals. Although I didn't tell him, I was disappointed... But I naturally grew to love it. Zach Snyder reminds me of my grandfather nearly every time I watch Batman vs. Superman, because it is Snyder's vision of what he wants Batman and Superman to be. He doesn't fully understand the comics (like Burton and Nolan), so he took a wildly creative route and made it his own. He took incredibly strange liberties with the medium to benefit the story, even if it didn't fit the characters established in the comics whatsoever. He is an artist who can't help but stray, who doesn't want to fit the norm perfectly. With all of this meme-ing of BvS, we forget that Snyder is a professional, who, in my opinion from watching these films, actually gave a shit in making them, and that deserves some sort of credit. The problem with these films is that corporate bloodhounds wanted this trilogy to kick off an expanded universe, so the expectations from the audience were raised exponentially. A revision that would not only make THE DEFINITIVE versions of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, but would accomplish what the Marvel films set up with 20 movies in just 3. Think about it... If the Nolan Batman saga was going to "kick off a cinematic universe", it wouldn't work either, and in fact, the 89 Batman (in which Batman kills far more directly than in BvS) would have worked better. If DC just realized that they thrive with bold and brave artistically talented directors (like Burton, Nolan and yes, Snyder) they could have made a separated, isolated, almost else-world trilogy that would have made quite the mark, just as the Nolan and Burton series have. Hell, if the planet never heard of "Bat-man" or "Super-Man", this film would have been a billion times more understood. It wouldn't have accumulated a hype train that was far too monstrous to stop. It wouldn't have had to compete with an already incredibly successful cinematic universe. It wouldn't have to pay so much respect to the source material as people expect from superhero films. In that parallel world, Snyder would have made good movies, hell, probably great movies. And in a time where superhero films being uncreative and unimaginative sells hard, and creative and imaginative films get royally shit on, I'm worried as to what this means for the future of DC.

    In my opinion the reason why BVS was not well received was because we could not connect ourselves to the characters. We were introduced to new characters like bruce wayne without any major context of what he is going through. The bruce which we see in the movie who has been batman for several years which lead to his ideas of not believing everyone . Due to his character changes he is now okay with killing people .But we as a audience do not know what those situations are which led the symbol of justice go into a massive killing spree. This is something that captain america civil war beautifully uses to its advantage. We already know what are the motives of cap from previous films like winter soldier. We know why iron man is so in grief about sokovia accords because he was the one who built ultron. But in BVS all we see is an angry old billionaire fighting an alien from space. if u think i am wrong pls correct me.

But I personally resonate with Batman and Superman in the DCEU because I don't have a lot of happy lucky fortunes like Iron Man, Captain America,Thor,Spiderman,Hulk,Black Widow,Hawkeye and guardians of the galaxy. I always end up being a horrible person like Batman but then I was saved by someone that I feel Inspired from Superman. TLDR, Your opinion is still not wrong but I personally resonate and connect with these 2 characters in my life.

    Nope. It’s not that audiences weren’t willing to embrace a movie that wasn’t escapism, as Logan got the appreciation it deserved, it’s that Zack Snyder confuses complicated plot with deeper meaning. Batman’s arc is fantastic and should have been in it’s own movie, but it gets weighed down by pointless cameos, dream sequences, political subplots and setup for future movies. Hidden inside this film is a great Batman story, but BvS fails because it didn’t pull off what the title promised. It got the Batman part right, but it dropped the ball on Vs Superman (and don’t get me started on the subtitle).

    UncleBourban Okay. Logan wasn’t anything special in terms of the story. It’s a fantastic movie but it’s pretty straight forward. Take your daughter/this girl to a safe location to get her out of the hands of so and so. It’s not a complicated story. Last of us pretty much had the story with way more depth to it than Logan. Batman v Superman has so many videos analyzing the themes of religious symbolism, analyzing the cinematography, What each shot means and why the director shot the angle in this specific way, how the film impacted them as viewers in general, analyzing the problem of evil in the world which philosophers still talk about today and people are still analyzing this film a year later. Logan is too simplistic to do anything like this.

    Religious symbolism, oh yeah you mean how they keep obviously spamming everyone with the fact that Superman is Jesus. Yeah, that isn't hard to figure out since it's handled so blatantly, whoever needed to "analyze" that probably hasn't seen too many films. The movie had ambitious goals, yeah, but just because you have ambition doesn't mean you fulfilled that ambition. BVS didn't. It stumbled with execution and writing. The visuals are cool but they don't do anything above and beyond. There's no complex meaning behind most of them, they're pretty straightforward. This isn't a hard film to understand. The people defending this movie go on the argument that people are too dumb to get it, implying that they are superior mentally, which is why they enjoyed it. Because they "understood" it. Much like how Batman from TDKR said it, "They know, they just don't care." If you understood it, props to you, sorry I don't understand stupid. The movie didn't earn any of the emotion it tried to evoke from the audience. It tried so hard to sell other films, set up pointless subplots with some characters, and really try to force motivation for Superman to fight Batman (yeah, that wasn't good writing). The characters are boring! Lois Lane's plotline here pretty much has no actual effect on the story, as she ends up being something for Superman to save...again. It's just there to pad out an already long runtime. Superman is a bland character who is just always depressed. Just because you have a depressed character doesn't mean we always feel bad for him, we have to care about him first. We don't really care about Clark at all. A lot of that has to do with the attempted realism here. This movie takes itself WAY too seriously to the point it's even laughable. Even the director acknowledged how silly it looks having Batman and Superman HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH EACH OTHER. They try to make Superman relatable, but they just keep mentioning how he is an ALIEN and is a GOD. None of that is relatable. The movie just shoves Wonder Woman in here...because we have to have that cool shot in the trailer. She is here for no reason at all. Only to help set up Justice League. Lex Luthor apparently hated his father but hated God more for allowing his father to do things to him or abuse him. Okay, but when you have all the money in the world and all that power, is that really enough of a motivation for this guy to kill Superman? I doubt it. Especially establishing an overly convoluted plot to have two guys battle it out, only to have a big CGI mess monster destroy the city after that anyway, so what was the point? It would have made more sense if Luthor was intimidated by Superman's power over him, and Luthor wanted to prove that he could play God too. He just wants to feel that power. So he creates Doomsday to kill Superman. That would make more sense than what we got. And there are literally hundreds of thousands of analysis videos on pretty much every film out there. BVS isn't the only film that has tried these things. It isn't the only one that failed at it either. How does this film analyze the problem with evil in the world? Because there is a bad guy in it? Because Batman is kind of a bad person? Because evil things happen? If that is the case, then every superhero movie does the same thing. That is a dumb argument and this movie, in no way, exploits the problem of evil in the world. BVS isn't a deep film, it just isn't. It is a big mess of a movie that doesn't focus on one thing throughout. It tries to mash all these things together but fails at all of them. Batman has cool moments, but overall, he is an idiot. Superman is a dull character played by a dull actor. Lois' storyline is bad. Superman has no motivation to fight Batman that makes sense, it is forced. Much like the rest of the film. The nightmare sequences are absolutely retarded. It's an excuse to tease Dark Seid and Flash to set up Justice League. Also, this is just a nightmare Bruce has. Are you telling me this is enough for him to be like "yep, I'm killing him." And say what you want about Logan, but it told its story very well. Much better than whatever BVS was doing. It focused on his narrative and it's narrative only. There is a thing with film, you either tell a simple story with complex characters or a complex story with simple characters. Logan told a simple story with complex characters. Logan struggled with depression, suicidal thoughts, and an overall struggle to move on with his life. Every day, he is reminded of how bad things have gotten, especially everytime he looks at Xavier, who has pretty much fallen off the deep end. And there is a foreshadowed backstory there with him wiping out a bunch of mutants at the school. Their chemistry together works as well as the dialogue. The two are great actors giving solid performances. Logan keeps it's gritty, realistic tone throughout. It shows how comic book movies can mature, and that they can tell good stories with good characters that aren't just for children. They can tell a different side to these characters, one that isn't glorified in a colorful comic book (as referenced in the film). You care about Logan, Xavier and the girl. Especially at the well-deserved emotional ending, which had people in tears. It was a great story and a good send off to the character. BVS has none of that. Cavill is a bad actor. The dialogue is so awful in this film, it's cringe-worthy. Nobody in this movie, besides Bruce and Alfred, have good chemistry. Amy Adams and Cavill have no chemistry at all. They literally have to have her say that they're "in love" in order for the audience to know. We never really see them connect with one another, we never see them talk, flirt, laugh or anything. You know, what people in the "real world" do. Not everyone is depressed 24/7. We see them smile and makeout for like 5 seconds in a tub. Real subtle. Superman struggles with the same conflict again. He doesn't know if he should save people or not, so he basically gets the answer from his father in a flashback. This dumb plotline could have been trashed in order to flesh out his motivation for fighting Batman. And when Superman is killed, no one felt anything. We all knew he wasn't dead, and him dying felt so forced and unearned. After 10 minutes of a funeral scene, he is alive. Shocker. BVS is too incompetent to do what Logan did. Hell, Logan was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars. How's that for "simplistic." I heard BVS had a few Razzie noms. That's totally the thinking man's film.

If people spent just that much amount of time and effort in finding things that are genuinely good about a movie, it would be so much easier on people like Snyder, who painstakingly pull together what I find to be, a masterpiece, only to have it see ridiculous and borderline stupid hatred without even actually stating facts favoring their opinions.

    There is a TON of Christian imagery in this movie. Find a video on YT about it. Sndyer prefers visual storytelling to spoonfed exposition, and people are not used to that anymore. Marvel pumps out simple and predictable haHAA funny films every year, but DC take the bold option of making a gritty film. If this movie came out 10 years ago people would have lost their god damm minds. Reconsider what you believe makes a good movie, because most Marvel films could be played as an audiobook and still understood.

    I absolutely agree. I think people just don't understand DC and their dark approach. I personally love it because it's so deep and thoughtful. Just seeing how Lex Luthor's portrayed shows you that. And I am glad that someone's understood what that whole Martha thing was about. Bruce didn't stop himself because he thought it was cute their mothers had the same name. Bruce stopped because he realised Superman wasn't just Superman. He realised he was Clark Kent. A human being. More human than he'd been. That's what made him stop.

I like your points about the full circle (or kind of) ride with Batman and what I think is really key and Snyder probably has to be better about this, is that he expects his audiences to know. I really want to put some time aside to watch the movie again (has to be directors cut). I enjoyed the Martha scene as Bruce “comes back to his senses” of sorts but always liked that scene that shows that bond between Supes and Bats. It may not make me like the movie any more but this can make me appreciate the vision better. Thank you.

    Acknowledging the goals attempted in the movie isn't the same thing as those goals being successful. The story has been treated heavy handedly which makes that moment not only predictable but surreal when it hits. With how often MARTHA was thrown around before that moment and how it penetrated the narrative it becomes laughable when you get that moment and the explanation, instead of heightening drama it deflated it. And tragedy as a story device is one where motivations of the major protagonist of that tragedy has acted in a way to either cause or not halt the coming fallout, and the story of Superman's fall doesn't work in this respect... None of his actions coincide with this idea of tragedy and the fall, he is the subject of other character's plans, but his actions don't work in the tragic narrative, and unless Batman and Lex Luther were the main adversaries to one another in the story line, the death of Superman at the end of BVS only works to cement a fundamental disjointment between theme and execution. Superman's death is not a matter of Batman's direct actions after he has changed his mind, he wasn't working with Lex, and then betrayed after he is swayed, so where is the tragedy work at the end of the narrative... the tragedy story is just another thing set up that doesn't pay out.

  • @NikhilMaurya10

    @NikhilMaurya10

    6 жыл бұрын

    I think it was intended to deflate the drama, cause that's where the film starts it ending sequence. And you talk about superman's death and attach it to tragedy, but in my opinion the tragedy is done just after the Martha scene. Now its superman's character development and his death is the start point of JL's formation. It's Batman's story and LEX is an integral part of it, even if he is not directly coming face to face with Batman. If something doesn't payoff then its Lex because he was quite strong with good dialogs and motive in entire movie.

    I love this movie. For anybody who says this guy is reaching to give Snyder credit, come on. This is the story Snyder wanted to make. It literally says a story by Zack Snyder in the credits. No, he didn't write the screenplay. Most directors don't. But as a director-in-the-making myself, I know just what it takes to be director. A director's job is to bring a story to life through every detail on screen. The mis'en'scene is all orchestrated by the director. It is just like chorus. The director didn't write or perform it. He didn't build the podium or the bleachers or the outfits the choir wears. But, he puts it all together in his vision and adds his own style. For those who say Zack can only be credited with the style, you couldn't be more wrong. It even proves that this is HIS film if you can feel his art throughout. This is his movie. It's a shame that Zack's film are always slimmed down last minute and it'll happen once more with Justice League. But, from the reviews I remain optimistic. Thank you for your analysis Iamthatroby. Keep up the good work.
