    Tragic. The fact that he was Batman for 6 years but never got to be in a Batman film because WB wanted to rush it's DCEU is absurd.

    WB was way too impatient with establishing a shared universe, with BvS shoehorning so much of the Justice League setups into the plot so much as to bloat one film. Leave it to the people following the successes started by the MCU and The Dark Knight Trilogy to try, unsuccessfully, to recreate the magic of both. They learned nothing from MCU's approach, in attempting to establish their super team.

    Ben Affleck was so excited to be cast as Batman. According to Kevin Smith that is all he talked about back in the day. You could tell the actors were trying hard, very hard, but the story and editing was horrendous.

    When your main actors no longer want to play some of the most iconic and popular characters of all time, you know you screwed up. Seriously, Henry Cavil would rather play a polish cat man than Superman.

    @@trevordavis6830 Actually, Henry Cavill really wants to carry on as Superman, otherwise he'd just have walked when contract negotiations fell apart the first time, the way I see it, he wants more creative control to stop the next Superman film being awful, which is fair, and he wants more money since he's in demand, which also seems fair. I think Affleck would've stuck in there, too, if it weren't for his personal life. It's a crying shame, that, because I can imagine The Batman would've been really interesting. Why didn't Kevin Smith take the gig?

    I'm personally glad he doesn't have to be a part of that awful DC universe and can shine in other movies. It's so obvious in Justice League that he looks bored. Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. clearly had no idea what to do with Batman and just wanted to try and shove as many stories into a single movie, without any idea how to tell a good story. I really don't think any interpretation will top the Dark Knight. Those movies had to be good movies first and they were. They were made by a competent director who had a unique vision. These movies do not. They just want to copy Marvel and make a Justice League quicker than Marvel did.

    Just imagining a movie based on Arkham knight with Batfleck and Willem Dafoe as Joker. Joker's old, aging, dying and loosing control and grip of the criminal underworld, Batman is past his prime. Jason is already dead and Tim Drake can just barely get through to Bruce these days. Oracle is wheel-chair bound and bitter. Gordon blames Batman for his daughters shooting, Nightwing is completely MIA. Justice League is just a name now. The members rarely speak. Green Arrow had a huge fight and left to start a family with Black Canary. Superman is the presidents errand boy. Flash is still hopeful. Everyone is tired, broken and Gotham is worse than it's been in years. Batfleck and Dafoe would be perfect reflections of their characters. Then we could get a Flashpoint to usher in Battison and Leto; (he wasn't that bad, the gangster aesthetic is genius and makes sense. Each villain should be the leader of their gang(s). Penguin and his lounge/club, Two-Face and his court, Scarcrow and his addict followers etc. The tattoos and design for Leto were horrible tho.) With Cavill as a conflicted Superman, Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor Sr. and Jesse as the bratty Jr who wants to prove he's a mastermind to his dis-approving father. Ah, im just imagining it. In another timeline we got this. And it was probably glorious.

Unfortunately thats not the case, Snyder was given a tight objective by WB and that is pretty much doing catch up with Marvel. I give him a ton of credits for what he had done with MoS BvS and JL since everything adds up when you think about it rather than expecting a quick action flick movie where superheroes doing punches and villains trying to do their cheesy one liners. Again, this isnt to say that your ideas are bad it’s just that WB inability to either be patient or started sooner in order to compete with Marvel’s cinematic U

    The Affleck's version of Batman we saw on those three films was the post-'Dark Knight Returns' one, so he had already been disillusioned and broken to a certain extent and thus becoming jaded and not giving as much of a damn as before, which, among others, resulted in his killing people when he has to. I never understood why so many people did not understand what version of Batman we got on those films and why there was so much ado about him killing sometimes.

    @@subraxas The vast majority of batman stories have the no kill caveat to the point were it is a core part of his character's central theme. Look at "Death in the family" or "knightfall", I mean, at the end of the dark knight he calls guns the weapons of cowards to his group of bat gang members lol. With all that being said a batman who kills story is possible but I think it was a mistake to start the DCEU off with that version and I think it was partially why people had such a negative reaction to it. It's not something you can just start with, they needed to build up an ideal batman before letting him get to the point where he breaks his one and only rule.

    Really liked Affleck in this role personally. I know the darker, grittier take isn't for everyone but I felt like he did well with what Snyder was willing to provide. I left the cinema after BvS wanting more Batfleck, not necessarily more Justice League stuff. I liked the older, more beaten down element he brought to the role. Again, not for everyone but I liked it a lot.

    I really liked the darker tone of the DCEU just because of how different it was. It would have been easy though to mix it up. Batman and justice league should be dark. The universe is likely at stake when dealing with a JL movie no need to be light hearted about it. Someone like The Flash and some Green Lantern stories should have been the happier movies for the DCEU aquaman from what I know they really could have gone either way being that he was the joke but all had his infant done killed and he couldn’t have it. Super man though should be about inspiring hope. I think Snyder was on the right path with him but having to leave de railed his plans. I like the mad scientist version of Lex just because it was so different from what’s come before though I would love to see Bryan Craston take on the super genius present elect Luthor. Just some of my thoughts on rant from. :)

    The DCEU really needs to get its shit together. There is no substitute for a well written script. It's almost certainly the cheapest part of the movie-making process, and the part that no amount of CGI can fix. They need to stop cutting corners. Hire an army of writers, pay them all well, churn out a few dozen screenplays, and pick the best one. Polish the hell out of it through subsequent rewrites, and stop obsessing over superficial details. Treat the audience with respect. No, the MCU isn't successful because of its humor, or its color grade, or its tone, it's successful because their movies are competently written. They follow principles of good storytelling. They are finely tuned emotion-evoking machines driven by the engine of complex characterization. I generally prefer DC heroes to Marvel heroes, but I will always prefer a well written story to a poorly written story.

  • @thehikingviking2049

    @thehikingviking2049

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@TheExecutioner21 To me well written means a script that is designed, using the at this point well-established principles of story structure, to maximize emotional engagement by putting the audience into the protagonist's shoes. A good example for me would be the difference between Green Lantern and Doctor Strange, as on the surface they have shockingly similar plots. It has been a while since I've seen both movies, so I apologize if I can't go into detail about the specifics. I'd be happy to watch them both again when I have the time to provide a more thorough beat-by-beat breakdown. The first thing that jumps out at me is the difference between the catalyzing events in act 1. In GL, that event is Hal receiving the ring from the dying alien. In DS, the event is Strange getting into a car crash and breaking his hands. It's worth pointing out that Strange's car crash was a result of his own recklessness and hubris, whereas receiving the ring was more like the plot happening to Hal. Everything that unfolds in DS is a direct result of Strange trying to get the use of his hands back. Everything that unfolds in GL is a direct result of the plot happening to Hal. This may be unfair, but it is my best recollection of the two movies. I watched them both back to back to compare the two when Doctor Strange was in theaters, and for the life of me I can't remember what meaningful choices Hal makes and why he makes those choices, but I can vividly remember all of Strange's motivations. That's solid characterization. It is true that many Marvel films are weaker than they aught to be. Most of the non-Avenger Thor films bored me to tears, with the sole exception of Ragnarok. Black Panther frustrated me with its plot contrivances and indestructible suits. But comparing, for example, Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad or Avengers and Justice League... it's not even close. In one the plot serves the characters, in the other the characters serve the plot.

    What I would do with Batfleck is this First a batman vs deathstroke movie to establish him as a fighter who fights without killing Then a loose adaptation of sub zero. In the first act we explore the backstory of victor fries until he falls in love with nora and she gets sick and he gets blasted into chemicals. Then flashforward some years and freeze is a criminal hell bent on saving her. And killing whoever stands in his way. Then everything happens as usual. He kidnaps barbara, bruce and dick come to hunt him etc. Now the two changes would be bruce will be too anxious and overprotective of dick. At some point he'll call him on it saying that he isn't a kid robin anymore and he can take care of himself. At that point bruce lashes out " I just.." "what?" "I just don't want to lose another son Dick!" putting jason todd directly into perspective. The movie ends freeze gets his redemption and happy ending. And the 3rd movie would be in two times one in the past when joker killed robin and one in the present when Bats following clues realizes that this joker is actually robin who didn't die but has gone mad by the original joker( mixing red hood and the death of joker from DCAU together) . In the end batman manages to save robin from his madness and bring him back redeeming himself and ending his trilogy.

    @@helmetguy6495 you did not get what i meant, Robert Pattinson is provably one of the best actors of the last 10 years of cinema, as he has proven in all his last movies, and joining the SUPERHEROES new trend is gonna give him a lot of cash, but it will ruin his career....MCD/DC movies are not good movies.... in a dramatic, script writing, artistic perspective, they are just entertainment.... and all these good actors like Phoenix etc.... are just in the need of money, which 100% respect, but time to time.... maybe he'll get not too stained like Christian Bale did, as has done a lot good movies after Batman... but... is a risk....

    It baffles me how some folk actually thought having Affleck's Batman and Leto's Joker face off would work. I never bought for a second that his Joker would be one of the few villains with the potential to bring Batman to his knees psychologically and make a whole city fear him. Leto never sold any of that.

  • @MinesAGuinness

    @MinesAGuinness

    5 жыл бұрын

    I think it was the wrong film for them to attempt to introduce both Batman and Leto's Joker character. They already had an ensemble cast to introduce, and Harley Quinn and Deadshot were supposed to be the key duo. Putting two more characters into the film with cameos just to show them off seemed irrelevant, and the way it was done was half-hearted. That confrontation would have worked far better in a stand-alone film of its own. I happened to enjoy Leto's portrayal of his Joker (while agreeing with your assessment of his sense of threat), partly because I imagined it as not being the same character we see Heath Ledger play (as a few hints suggest in the movie) - but they never seemed to explore that idea. They could have explored this as a plot theme in a full film, with Batman being antagonised by a villain claiming to be his old arch-nemesis but clearly not, and investigating to discover who it really is under the face paint. In 'SS', Batman never seems to even consider, "Wait: who the hell is this guy? Could he be...?" Maybe it still wouldn't have been a great movie, but it would have been a coherent one, leaving Suicide Squad to do its own thing.

  • @R1ch4d8

    @@MinesAGuinness Gonna be honest, I'm not really sure what you're saying. Are you saying that Leto's Joker is implied to have some kind of connection to Ledger's? And that if Affleck's Batman investigated Leto's Joker he would actually be aware of Ledger's character? Cos I won't lie, that seems unbelievably obvious not true that I feel kinda silly even pointing it out, with Affleck's version being a total reboot of Batman with nothing to do with TDK trilogy.

  • @MinesAGuinness

    @MinesAGuinness

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@R1ch4d8 Oh no, I meant quite the opposite - that Leto's Joker is not Heath Ledger's character at all - as in not 'The Joker'. Obviously, as you point out, I am aware that Heath Ledger appeared in a separate franchise and that this is a reboot. I only mentioned his name simply as the previous actor to play the Joker on screen, not to claim that exact character might exist as a former nemesis of Batfleck. In fact, he and Alfred make a quip about wind-up penguins that pay homage more to the Tim Burton era than the Dark Knight trilogy - no, I don't think Batfleck is Michael Keaton either! :-) My idea (which is all it is) was a far more mundane one. Batfleck is an older version of the character, with a career spanning a decade or so of crime-fighting. It might be inferred (in this purely imaginary pitch) that he once faced a nemesis called the Joker (this universe's version). The little easter eggs they dropped into Suicide Squad seemed to point to the idea that Leto was portraying a traumatised Tim Drake, formerly Robin. So, instead of the rushed cameos in Suicide Squad, perhaps the idea for a separate film about that troubled relationship, explored more fully. Who knows if the filmmakers truly intended to go down this route, but there they are as something to make ideas from. I was just playing with ideas, none of which were actually implied to be their true intentions, or even a good idea! Sorry for the confusion!

  • @R1ch4d8

    @R1ch4d8

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@MinesAGuinness Oh right, okay, no problem. Yeah I remember those Robin theories before the movie came out, I never bought them at all cos I think most fan theories for any big franchise are all bullshit anyway. And those Robin ones seemed especially ridiculous to me, if I'm honest. It just seemed like fan wank to justify such a disappointing looking Joker, like "Don't worry, the real one's still to come." The same thing fans did with Eisenberg's Lex Luthor like "He's actually Lex Jr., his dad's the real Lex" and even Doomsday "The real, bone-bearded Doomsday could be out there!". And I don't think any big twist or writing could've saved Leto's Joker was from I thought was just a plain bad performance, the guy could've been the most visually comic-accurate Joker ever and I still would've thought he was awful.

  • @MinesAGuinness

    @MinesAGuinness

    @@R1ch4d8 I think you are probably right about both it just being supposed to be a throw-away fan easter egg and that it wouldn't have made a great story or helped the character Leto was portraying. Much like you and most viewers, I could never see him as 'the Joker', just someone playing at being him. I could only imagine it being worthwhile if somehow a movie portrayed Leto's Joker as a facade for a real character beneath, and we see him both breakdown and take on that persona for some reason and the ultimate collapse of that as he finally regains his sanity. And it still might not have worked as a film!

    Green Lantern always seemed to me to be three movies crammed into one. The first movie should have been about Hal getting the ring, learning his powers, defeating Hector Hammond. And it should have ended with Tomar Re or Sinestro (pretty much any Green Lantern would do) showing up to whisk Hal off to Oa. So movie two has Hal training on Oa, being cosmic space cop, and finding out about Parallax, ending with him discovering that Parallax is on or on its way to Earth. Movie three would be the fight against Parallax and Sinestro, who has been drifting into villainy since movie two. Stuffing all of that (except Sinestro) into one movie shortchanges everything. Everything is rushed and underdeveloped. And it comes across as a disjointed mess.
