The thing that made me fall in love with John Wick is the subtle world-building. You think it's our world when the movie starts, but it turns out it's a seedy underworld that reminds me of my favorite graphic novels. Little things, like paying with gold coins, or the rules of the hotel, hint at a much larger, richer universe, which the sequels build on. I was intrigued from the start, and the very grounded approach to action makes the more grandiose aspects of the world believable. It's such a well-made world, I'm always hungry for more.

I still remember the moment when I read the dialog from the children saying which direction to go, and realizing I was actually able to play the game. I played it on game cube, and it’s been years since I never had a system to play it on. However, I literally found out today that my coworkers uncle makes modded Wii’s, and she said he can get me one with every single N64, GameCube, and Wii game I want so long as I can find him a hard drive. So soon I will finally be able to play all the games I did as a child!!! I’m honestly so excited to play a Zelda game again!

The directors Stahelski and Leitch both are martial artists, stuntmen, and fans of action Hong Kong cinema style - that features long camera takes and choreography, with less cuts/edits, to showcase the action, fight sequences, and skills of the actors and stuntmen. The action in HK cinema is PART of the storytelling and character development - whereas action in the West is limited by the action storytelling, inexperienced actors, and a stilted directing and choreography shooting methodology. For a quick TV comparison, watch AMC's "Into The Badlands" vs Netflix's "Iron Fist".

I mean, it's not like I don't like it, but rather I don't really see anything special in it. I'm entertained by it, but I don't go nuts when seeing it (I go nuts with Logan tho). I'm not against it, it's just a personal taste. John wick has a very little story just to make context of the action. And I don't think it's bad, I just don't enjoy it as much as if it would have a good story (like Logan). But again, I'm not saying it's bad for that. Personal taste. I feel there's a double meaning in your video title. You talk about why the movie is so good, allow me to speak on why the character is so good. Actually, here's a quote from one of Terry Prachett's books, that says quite a bit about the character of John Wick. "If you have to look along the shaft of an arrow from the wrong end, if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man. Because the evil like power, power over people, and they want to see you in fear. They want you to know you're going to die. So they'll talk. They'll gloat. They'll watch you squirm. They'll put off the moment of murder like another man will put off a good cigar. So hope like hell your captor is an evil man. A good man will kill you with hardly a word." When John Wick speaks, it's hardly for the sake of being witty or clever. Every sentence he speaks has purpose, much like every bullet he fires, and every punch he throws. Like you said, John Wick takes no pleasure in what he does, so he does it quickly and efficiently to insure that he doesn't have to do it again. That's what makes John Wick so good.

What I love in John Wick movies is the humor, it's ever so subtle, like in the furst movie, when the bad guy hear the name of John Wick he is like "Oh shit", or in the 3rd when the manager in Casablanca passing her nerves on the boss, she said "He shot my dog" and John answer "I get it", it's simple and just effective humor.

Also what makes John Wick so good is the attention to detail. The time between 1 and 2 is 4 days. The cars outside the Continental are exactly the same from the end of 1 to the beginning of 2 even though they were 3 years apart in filming. Keanu’s attention to detail in the gun-fu from the weapon checks to reloads to the tactical movements. It’s all in such detail that you don’t need shaky cams and 10 different cuts to jump over a fence. It can be done in long takes, with wide shots and even simultaneous action in the background like in Casablanca in John Wick 3. The attention to detail in this series of movies is impeccable and that is what makes it great.

Great video! I love the John Wick movies, they're such unique action movies. I'm looking forward to watching the 3rd one. And thank you for pointing out the shaky cams, as someone who gets nauseous when I see shaky cams, I really hate seeing them in movies, more so because I can't appreciate the details in these fight scenes.

Shaky cameras hopefully are on the way out. Good riddance. They were only successful in the first couple of Bourne movies.

VERY well said! and on a more serious note with the dogs, the concept of this all starting from the death of a dog (and wife by sentimental extension) is a GOLDEN prompt. very unique concept especially for action movies that puts an almost humorous light in the series (“all this for a dog??”)

Why I love Wick is the interesting action compared to most movies. Just the subtleties of him needing to reload or actually being injured in fights makes it stand out to many, that's ignore the fantastic cinematography. Not only that but the movies sound track and art style is stellar, it's one of those things you can see or hear and know "This is John Wick". They also manage to keep each conflict very personal to John, it's never "I'm going to kill the bad guy for the people!" , it's strictly "He killed my dog. He wrecked my house. I'm on the run for my mistakes." And the next going to be "My best friend fucking betrayed me.". The movies are just good. My favorite modern action franchise.

Viggo asking Aurelio why he struck his son, expecting to have Aurelio put six feet under, then finding out his son fucked with John Wick is probably the most powerful shot in the first movie. *Viggo* : “I heard you struck my son?” *Aurelio* : “Yeah, I did sir” *Viggo* : “Why?” *Aurelio* : Well, he stole John Wicks car sir, and uhhh, killed his dog” *Viggo* : “Oh.”

Y'know, the best part is that this really only scratches the surface of why John Wick is so incredible. It's just so satisfying. It's satisfying like Captain America push kicking a guy off of a ship, but as a whole movie.

I like to think that the movies success can be attributed to its commitment to almost never compromising on aesthetics, allowing it to stand out from all the other action movies. The world of John Wick is brutal but it has _class._ The titular character is always in a suit, favors pistols and almost never wastes his shots which stands in contrast to other action movie protagonists who tend to use larger guns and firing nearly endless amount of rounds without reloading It helps that John Wick isn't another action movie that features action scenes that takes place in a Middle East village where the protagonist is a military dude shouting military jargon while shooting at Arab-speaking rebels that's most common in early 2000s, post 9/11 action movies, something that the general audience have grown sick of seeing. The lack of any edgy shock value helps too
