The way he takes the slight pause and then his voice cracks makes that scene even better. You can see how John's cold barrier is actually worn away for a second and his true rage peeks out. He's in an impossible situation and so he finally gives in to the rage full force before the tables are turned causing him to immediately snap back into action.

I just found out something interesting about the scene when John sneaks up on the bouncer played by Kevin Nash. He asks the bouncer how much weight he lost and according to Nash at a convention, he says he lost 60 pounds, but the director told Nash, that when he said that, he was actually telling Wick how many people were in the club and that is why John Wick spared him.

You left out one of the most impactful scenes that illustrates just how dangerous and effective John wick really is. When Viggos son is killed, he gets a phone call. The audience knows that the call is to inform viggo that his son was slain, but Viggo doesn't need the call, he already knows because it's John fucking wick. Without hearing the caller say anything, Viggo tells the other person "I'll make the arrangements." John wick is so effective that this man knew his son was dead before it was even confirmed.

Coming back here after watching Chapter 4 First of all, Rest in Power Lance Reddick. My Commander in Destiny, and the Concierge here in the Wick Cinematic Universe Second, John really shows the difference between Friends and Goons. Throughout the series, John and his Friends are always throwing wrenches into the faces of goons and their bosses. Marcus in 1, not as much in 2, Sofia, Winston, and Charon in 3, and his friends in 4. Also John may lose some fights, but he still he keeps going. Truly a force of sheer *fuckin’* will. Also also that his “you can die screaming along side him” speech is still the most he’s spoken in this entire series

One detail I liked about this movie - and that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned in the video - is just how well Viggo knows John. Iosef and antagonists in the sequels all express complete shock and surprise at the lengths John will go to just to avenge a dog. Viggo isn't remotely surprised, and in fact (and this part you did mention) he knew exactly how this was going to play out the moment he heard what Iosef did. A little detail in his conversation with Iosef reveals why. He points out something that none of the other antagonists did about Daisy's death; that it happened a few days after John's wife died. John's rampage was never about the stolen Mustang or dead dog, and Viggo knew that before the rampage even started.

The moment where he watches the guy in his eyes with "death stare" is actually not a death stare but he is confirming his death. When pupils are large it means person's brain is no longer functioning. Always the professional, Jardani, eh? p.s. I know pupils can get larger for numbers of reasons, but considering he just put a knife in his throat and the man's pupils are probably small cause he was aware, John is simply waiting for them to become enlarged

What makes Keanu so perfect imho is how perfeclty his quiet understated demeanor fits the character of John Wick. He does not quip or drop one liners. He doesnt do silly things to be flashy, he does not go out of his way to be a masculine power fantasy. He uses extreme brutality, but does so in a dignified, stoic, elegant fashion. Its rough, but beautiful. "Sad Keanu" with his subtle expressions and timeless looks is a fantastic fit. The fact that he was also willing and proved capable to do all the required action is of course the second half to this masterpiece.

Killing John's sniper buddy was a REALLY dumb move, but at that point, Viggo's just lost his son and it's that guys fault, so...I don't blame him for escalating further, even if it was a dumb move.

Besides, with all the damage John has done to his mafia empire (burning all his money and blackmail material, and killing SO MANY of his men), even if he did survive the whole thing, he's not returning to his past life. He's too smart to not know that a mafia leader with no money, no bargaining chips, and no goons is basically a dead man walking. Since he's fucked anyway, might as well drag a few more people down to hell with him.

At 7:11 That scene stars a guy who has had a good amount of experience not only in Hollywood as... well pretty much a mini-boss for a lot of protagonists; but this guy is a legendary performer in the ring. That is Kevin Nash. Had about 2 decades worth of experience in the pro wrestling business, working for both what was known as the WWF, now known as the WWE, WCW, and TNA.

The shot in John's house where the guy is on the other side of the wall is one of my favorites, it shows his experience and in a way, that this movie is more than the average action movies. Also the shot at 8:23 - even as the enemy proves little to no challenge and can easily shoot him, there is no cool one-handed, not even looking shot of any sort. It's professional, controlled two-hand grip on the pistol. Scenes like these really show what made Wick as infamously good at his job. Been a good while since I seen such a professionally made, top-notch action movie with such actors. RIP Michael Nyqvist, every scene was pure gold he was in. Such an expressive, caring and collected antagonist.

Just introduced my mom to this movie and she's been watching it nonstop. Literally. It's on loop lol. So made me come watch this again. I'm surprised you missed one detail: the subtitles change. In the beginning, they're just plain subtitles. They have traditional placing, bottom center. It's not until John himself becomes stylized, slipping back into his old life, that the subtitles do. When John and Iosef meet, when they break into his house, when Viggo tells the tale and when he's singing the tale of the Boogeyman as the goons break in? They're plain. Then he laughs and says Baba Yaga, the bold, italicized, caps lock, red "the boogeyman" pops up. John Wick had slipped into the shadows, but Baba Yaga emerged at that exact point and kicked the rampaging action off.

most places teach 1-2 center of mass, 2nd or 3rd should be a headshot. You see Wick do that a LOT. 1 or 2 in the chest to stop the guy then the kill shot with the head. Sometimes 2 to the head if the first wasn't a clean shot. It really is pretty accurate.

5:57 that's a recurring move I've noticed throughout the movies, where John has a knife against someone's throat and has to smack it to get it past their block. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I see it as a representation for why Jonathan is the best. He's not the strongest, he's the most relentless.

Watching this after JW4 is interesting, As you mentioned in this movie we dont really get johns full backstory, we know of his skill and the reverence others have for him and later on going slightly deeper and revealing his real name. I wont spoil 4 too much but I'll say we never end up getting that backstory in full. I really like that. As annoying as that trope can be I gotta say it works when done well. For example the SCP Foundation is way more mysterious and interesting when you only know about like 3 SCPs.

More specifically the difference between a professional killer/veteran and a run of the mill gangster.
