Batman's (Almost) Perfect Return

Is the Flash one of the greatest superhero movies of all time? No. Was the PR hype overblown? Hell yes. Is it better than anyone expected? Yes. Is it a fun movie with a surprisingly emotional core bolstered by some good action? Actually yes. Is it sullied by a bunch of horribly rendered, morally questionable cameos in the last 15 minutes. Unfortunately, also yes. Should Ezra Miller’s wrongdoings become obscured by their performance in this? Absolutely not.
The central idea of Barry undoing his mother’s death, and the catastrophe that comes from that on a plot level as well as the theme of grief and letting go on an emotional level, all works well. It’s really just a shame that the current trend of multiversal cameos is on full display here.
So yeah, the Flash exemplifies the worst of superhero multiversal storytelling, but it also bizarrely exemplifies some of the best. Micheal Keaton returns to the Batsuit after a 30 year absence. After his third Batman movie stalled, we never thought we would ever see that iteration of the character ever again. So not only is it utterly surreal to see Micheal Keaton in this world again, what’s most shocking is he hasn’t missed a beat. Keaton still has the magic of Batman and he makes it look effortless. It helps that the rest of the movie adequately captures his alter ego and all the assorted bat toys with aplomb.

Keaton Batman officially most successful onscreen film Batman now. He got rid of major systemic crime in Gotham making it one of the safest cities. Retired for years and only came out of retirement to fight a planetary level threat with a depowered meta, a fledgling meta and a sun starved alien who they had to rescue vs an army of Kryptonians. Batman zero craps given about the odds once he got his joy for the struggle back.

7:20-7:27 I understand what you're saying, but the reason that they're playing the animated X-Men Theme instead of the John Ottman Theme is because in Multiverse of Madness Patrick Stewart wasn't playing the Charles Xavier from Fox's old X-Men franchise that died in Logan, but instead a variant of Xavier that was meant to look like the Xavier from the animated X-Men show.

You are spot on. Except for Batman saying, "Let's get nuts". To you it's a throw away line from 30 years ago. To this Batman and mostly American Music fans it's a callback to the song "Let's go Crazy" by Prince. The point of the verse and the line are that we only get one life so take your shot no matter how crazy or nuts it may seem. You can't please everyone. So for you the line is worthless. But for Batman/ Prince fans it means everything.

It's like you can't see the full detail of the timeline or universe until you step into it. It doesn't exactly look nice since they look like low detail renders, but it's certainly a choice.

I also kinda doubt she'll be supergirl going forward or at the least she wouldn't make much sense, as with Keaton it's heavily implied that this isn't the same universe so her being cast again isn't necessary and the move to a new cinematic universe heavily implies everyone is getting recast

I loved seeing Reeves., West, the Superman that never was finally fight that Spider etc with Reeves especially it felt like a tribute to all of DC Cinema up till this point and since this project was orginally gonna serve as the movie that would give the DCEU a soft reboot while keeping the most successful things about the universe but is now a farewell to it in a lot of ways a multiverse tribute to DC films from the first shared DC cinematic universe timeline felt right. My biggest issue is what you touch on: I would have been fine with a Clooney cameo but they should have had Keaton at the end. This movie shows how much he could still do. Both as a veteran version of his Batman and a Batman I feel could perfectly introduce the Bat Family on the big screen at last. It doesn't need to be linked to the DCU but I don't accept that this is where his story should end. Just because the initial Batgirl project fell apart there can't be any long term plans for him? Not only could he easily be used to introduce Nightwing etc but Burton's Batman did inspire TAS I think it would be fantastic if Keaton got some new Solo projects then like his animated counterpart the late great Kevin Conroy he could finally pave the way for a live action Batman Beyond. Also, instead of Barry having somehow removed Batfleck from his universe the replacement is fittingly the second Batman he met and fought with instead of a version he has never known and carries nowhere near the fanboy weight as the veteran Batman we spent the movie with. . Please give us more Keaton

I get why everyone including yourself are knocking on the cgi fx used during the multiverse bits but i guess it flew right over everybody's heads so i may as well explain it. It looked the way it did bcos it was done so in a way in the pov of Barry Allen seeing he is FAST he percieves things much faster than the normal person and views these glimpses of people as he's running back through time they look right out of a theme park as fake looking bcos theyre seen from Barry's pov as he is flashing back using the speed force. It was a deliberate visual choice to show how barry sees people when he goes n does flash type of things. Im not even a comic expert n i knew what they were going for. But yeh keep whining about the 'cgi' bcos 'hur durrrr the fx look sheeit hur hur durrrrrrr'.🙄

To be fair I loved the Nicholas cage cameo…. However (and this is a big however) you need to watch a particular interview with Kevin smith to understand this amazing inside joke. Basically Kevin smith was signed on to write a script for the Superman movie starring nic cage, and the producer didn’t care about what Kevin wanted and exclusively wanted a massive spider at the end of the movie. This scene was poking fun at that. And it’s so god damn good

@@FullFatVideos I’ll agree Luke in his own series should be recast. I know I’d love Sebastian Stan in the role, but I actually was perfectly fine with the CGI Tarkin in Rogue One. Heck, I was OK with deepfake Luke in Mando Season 2 (Season 1 was iffy, but I enjoyed it). In the Hobbit, though Billy Connolly isn’t dead, the CGI version of him was fine, too. But the ethics of it I think is something that’s basically a non-issue for me. Do better rendering the characters, sure, but I don’t care about the ethics of it. Because I thought it was bloody great! Of course it wasn't the best action hero movie ever made. But it was well worth the price of admission...and the popcorn! I agree with you that the trailers contained way too many spoilers. But silly me for watching every one that came out in the first place. Note to self - don't watch trailers! Loved this, but come on, the let’s get nuts was great! It’s a great throw back to a controversial moment from 89 and kind of gives it new life, and also suggests that it’s something that’s always been in his lingo. Also, the mission (that they’ve finally managed to convince him to take part in) is nuts! It’s practically a suicide mission they have barely any chance of winning, but they do it anyway because they’re hero’s and it’s the right thing to do. It’s like a, “ah fuck it, let’s do it” kind of moment, imho. Great video though 👏👏👏

I have a big confussion with this film... spoilers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . When Barry let her mother dies also means Keaton's Batman never died since he never met the two Flash? This Zod exist in the Burtonverse? Or it's just a alternative timeline were both Burtonverse and Snyderverse were mixed? With that questions it's a bad thing that the Batgirl tv show was cancelled.

  • @kevinlee5753

    @kevinlee5753

If Zods invasion is a fixed point in time then Keaton's Batman will die but the 2 Flashes wouldnt be there but if it's not then Keaton is at home while Supergirl is in prison or was never sent to Keatons earth in the first place since Flash messed with the timeline which could've brought her there. I personally don't think Zods invasion is a fixed point since it's stated so plainly in the movie that Flash is the reason for the invasion and since Flash goes back and corrects his mistake which led to dark flash existing in the first place he wouldn't have been in Keatons timeline and so the events of the movie will be erased. It's true that Batman was destined to die but that's only if Zod invaded but if he doesn't then Keaton lives. It can go either way which isn't bad since it opens up the potential for future movies and if not at least his Batman has an epic ending.

I don't know you guys but in my opinion it's also very likely that Keaton's Batman along with Supergirl Street haven't died either but resurrected as theoretically the mature Barry (and not the young Barry) again he altered the timeline by arranging some things in the past with the tomato can so that it returned a little to normal, As the mature Barry told the young Barry that the only way to save them both was to let Barry's mother die by leaving how things as intended and thus probably making Michael Keaton's Batman back to his land alive And making Supergirl return back to the capsule where she was locked but also alive and making the contacts that had with Flash never happened. It’s just a theory of mine, nothing more.

I have to disagree about Batman at the end of his career. He says Gotham is so low on crime, the city didn’t need him? Made no sense. Gotham is supposed to be the most corrupt, crime filled, and straight evil. Burton’s universe is not comic accurate, but still I don’t buy it. Only reason I can figure is maybe Keaton murdered so many criminals including all of his rouge gallery, there was no one left or anyone brave enough to take him on. Tim Burtons Batman was a cold blooded murder at points in his films. We should of gotten a quick funny montage of Keaton killing all of his iconic villains, but made to look like they would of if they were in a Tim Burton Batman sequel. Would of been great.

The most jarring thing about the Clooney cameo, at least for me, was the very underwhelming outfit he was wearing. Affleck’s outfit was rather good - the suit, coat, shirt, and tie all complemented each other. He certainly has the best (civilian) wardrobe of all live action versions of the character. Likewise, Keaton’s dishevelled appearance at least communicated something about the character, besides later on he wears a somewhat more put together outfit with a neckerchief, which was good to see. Meanwhile, Clooney comes in wearing a ready-to-wear blue suit with slim lapels, an open-necked shirt that doesn’t complement it, suspiciously thick ribbed grey socks, and slip on shoes. That he doesn’t look like Batman is passable, but he doesn’t even look like Bruce Wayne.

I don't believe that the scientist line was in any trailers, so when he said it in film it got a good chuckle, which was the intention.
