How DUNE: Part Two Blows You Away

Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two is here and it is stunning - it will blow you away... The epic conclusion to the first 2021 movie, I break down everything I loved, why it looks so gorgeous, the 70s sci-fi feel, the epic action and the true dark intention of the story.

My friends invited me to watch dune 2 and they showed me dune 1 the night before. The cinematic was clearly amazing but for being incredibly long, I felt like it was paced very well. One of my favorite part was how the voice was portrayed (I say this without reading the books at all) but the fact that you completely black out while being a slave to their orders is terrifying. Frankly what an experience.

If I recall correctly, in the novels the Bene Gesserit can use The Voice to fully control how people's mind and muscles react to their command. Remember when Reverend Mother Mohiam commanded Paul to kneel in Dune P1..and Paul was shown moving like in a snow sled and slide effortlessly then kneel before the RM. Lady Fenring was able to use The Voice to lure psychopath Feyd into her bed chambers to test him.. The Voice is the bomb 😊

My understanding is that it isn't the spice that makes the navigators look like that. They've been genetically engineered to be best adapted to space travel and navigation, so don't have bones and little muscle, and have a massive amount of brain tissue. They use the spice to be able to navigate, but everything physical with them is from that

The thing I loved so much about this movie is that people can walk away with different views on Paul's path. I personally saw it as Paul just doing what he thought was best, and when he tells all of them that he is the chosen one and they wouldn't be able to beat him, I thought he was doing it to hype them up, preparing them for the battle ahead and reassuring them that they had the best fighter on their side.

I enjoyed it. I wished there was more context. Like, are there enough fremen to kill everyone else in the galaxy? I have no idea. I had no idea how hard it would be to retake the capital. So it seemed easy. Why could one cousin kill all the fremen in the north and not the first one? Stuff kind of just happened with no context, so it was all spectical, no stakes. It wasn't a power struggle, with move and counter move. The supporting cast would make something seem like it would be difficult, without explaining why, and then they would deal with it easily. It was stating visually (another form of telling) without showing? Like every event was an outcome, without any buildup, or context in the world. At least for the millitary parts of it. The cultural parts were great. Hard to explain, how i feel.

In the book continuity as well as these films, I don't think Paul is meant to be seen as an honorless villain, that's the role of his eventual son, in the books at least Paul is "heroic" from beginning to end aa he fights against the Destiny that has been written for him

To be honest I was quite disappointed by part 2 after absolutely loving part 1 and I think it's mostly because of the music not being anything like as good.

Butchering my favorite parts of the book definitely blew me away. Also Chani being insufferable scene poison. In the end I like it only slightly better than the 1980s Dune.

It's possible to like this film if you've never read Herbert's novels, I suppose. And if you've never read any book, you're sure to like this overlong, pretentious, vapid music video.

Possibly I missed something - but I disagree - felt flat, style over substance and world-building without drama. Plot without story and characters whose motivations I failed to understand.

Even if I found 2's visuals impressive, both Dunes are so lifeless, joyless, empty, and sterile I can't even tell what the quality jump between 1 and 2 is supposed to be, the embarrassing Whedon jokes? I've seen some videos on the Dune books' lore and ideas, and they do sound interesting, I wish there was a movie adaptation communicating any of them.

I get what youre saying, Dune is not a comfy series with very personable characters. Its more about the political scheming and weird alien cultures/powers of this universe. The characters in book are more vehicles for cool scifi ideas and philosophical stand points. These movies had to take those and make it a big hollywood spectacle that would make money or the whole thing wouldn’t be adapted. This is denis doing his best to make his boyhood dream of putting this material to the big screen and he did a pretty awesome job considering the source material. If you want a movie with more humanity or “joy” look elsewhere. This is the epic of the rise and fall of paul atreides baby, fucking take it in.

i don’t know if it’s just an isolated to the movies but Dune’s world seems to lack serious subtext, such as having Javier Bardem interrupt a conversation to say “let’s pray” and do a crude and obvious reference to the islamic prayer seems forced and a bad attempt at characterising the Fremen

Read the books. But I don't see what you mean. Crude and obvious? Dune is set 20,000 years in our future. Sunni Islam has blended with Zen Buddhism, and other influences, to form the Zensunni Wanderer religion which the Fremen are and follow. It's not crude, Frank Herbert was well educated and well read so you will miss nearly everything he is referencing in the book. And it's not "obvious" because it's not trying to be hidden. It's just our world obscured by changes of time. I don't get what you're saying.

IT DID NOT. DUNE pt.1 was one , if not THE Most cinematic film of the past 25+years. Dune pt.2 proves the difference between a film adaptation and a stories bastardization. Great performances are lessened by decisions that take away from the story and the soundtrack lacks the punch of its' predecesssor.

The only questionable decision made in this movie is casting an actress for Alia who is *One. Year. Younger.* than the actor playing Paul. How TF are they going to make that work in Part 3 when she's supposed to be a teenager and he's 30?
