The thing I found most bizarre with Suicide Squad being set in the Arkhamverse is that Gotham Knights wasn't when its basic story seems so much better suited to it. Joker dead, Batman dead/gone, sidekicks taking up the slack (with redeemed Jason Todd), the League of Shadows tearing itself apart after the death of Ra's etc

@@TheJadedJames Then that's how you make her known and popular. Take a relatively unknown character and give that character the chance and spotlight to wow everyone. Mr Freeze was a relatively forgotten villain in the nineties, but thanks to BTAS (Batman the Animated Series), it gave new life to this originally gimmick character.

@@TheJadedJames Pretty sure Killer Frost got some fans from The Flash CW series. And she was in Justice League Unlimited, Injustice: Gods Among Us and LEGO DC Supervillains. And gender-flipping a popular character is the WORST thing a game company could do in this social climate. Any time a character's gender or race was changed, there's controversy about it. Deadshot being black is a criticism for this game. The female Ghostbusters movie flopped. Gender-flipping Mr. Freeze could not have been the only option. The Avengers had better choices for post-launch characters with Hawkeye, Spider-Man Black Panther and Winter Soldier. And at least the genderflipped Hawkeye and Thor were already their own characters in the comics and are playable with the male versions. Despite what people say about The Avengers, it sure is a lot better than Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, because at least it doesn't have a premise of you playing as mercenaries killing Earth's Mightiest Heroes. No, you're the Avengers stopping A.I.M. And it has a better Kamala Khan and M.O.D.O.K. than the ones the MCU gave us.

Speaking as a die-hard Rocksteady fan (I adore Arkham Knight in spite of its flaws) and as someone who absolutely adored and treasured the Batman Arkham series, this game truly broke my heart. Despite it being an online live service title, I hoped that they would still find someway of surprising me and recaptured the spirit and essence of the Arkham games, and they just didn't. Maybe the Batman Arkham games are so damn good, not even the studio that made them know how to do it again.

Arkham Knight is an amazing game. It isn't any more "flawed" than prior Arkham games, and the gameplay and open world were easily the best the series had ever seen, Batmobile included.

In my opinion ivy wasn’t a bad retcon since it’s kind of hinted at in knight if you go back to her grave, there’s a plant growing. But between ivy, deadshot’s raceswap, and elseworld joker, why even call this an Arkham game other than for money. You can tell that the framework for this wasn’t even a superhero game, so just don’t connect it to Arkham, you can keep the Arkham-type part of the Batman boss fight, but do away with the fear toxin part and do something else Edit: I completely forgot the fact that king shark was also canonically dead in the arkhamverse

Brainiac is a Superman villain. This takes place in Superman’s city. The story happens because Superman is bamboozled by brainiac. Having to fight his friends without killing them and then save his friends is a perfect challenge for him. This story should’ve been a Superman story

I cannot stop devouring these videos thrashing this game around like Hulk v Loki. Hate-watching SSKTJL videos has given me more joy recently than most content on KZread. A little Schadenfreude never hurt anyone, especially at the hands of greedy, scummy, low-life Warner Bro's executives.

Who cares about Slipknot? I only know him as the guy who died in the first Suicide Squad movie to confirm that the team really do have bombs in their heads.

There's actually a really good story in the _Justice League Unlimited_ cartoon (I think the episode is just called "Task Force X") where the Suicide Squad robs the Watchtower, but it's good because they _don't_ fight the Justice League, or at least the fighting that happens is minimal. The Squad knows that they'd be outmatched against any of the original seven except Batman.

Would have been great to see this Lex Luthor as the main villian in a Superman game. Corey Burton, even though he is more known for playing Brainiac and Hugo Strange, I thought he fit Lex Luthor quite well.

The ex lovers line is hilarious. 😂16:45

You know what, I'm not so sure permadeath *is* necessarily hostile to live service. Every new chapter introduces a new character at the beginning and a new reward like an upgrade that radically changes the way you play at the end, at the risk of losing team members to successfully complete that mission. It would be crucial that they're all accessible from the beginning of the game in case you're on a save file where your team was wiped when it comes out, which could get a little bloated the same way Breakpoint's quest hub does, but Watch_Dogs legion made it work, admittedly with optional permadeath. Not sure about the continuity of other players joining, they might have to pick from one of your team members, which means you'd better trust they know what they're doing as so to not get them killed

At First I was skeptical that the Justice League would be killed by the Suicide Squad but I thought WB mislead us and that they would Unbrainwashed later, but then when they Announced that this will be connected to the Arkham Series I was one of the few people who saw the Red Flags, then Kevin Conroy passed away and this would have been one of the Last Roles( with Crisis Part 3 seemingly being his Final Role), and don’t get me started on the multiple Delays for 3 Goddamn Years, the Shooting Mechanic, and the Live Server B$, I knew that this would be not just a Bad Game, but a Insult to DC and Arkham Fans that would have loved to see Rocksteady make either a Superman, Batman Beyond, or Justice League Game but now it’s clear that the Original People behind the Arkham Games have left and are given the Keys to New People that don’t understand what they’re doing that would lead this Once Great Company into Bankruptcy in the Most Distasteful and Distasteful Way Possible, Nobody in their Right Minds would want a Game that you killed off Some of your Favorite Heroes in Cold Blood, the Live Server Shooter Angle is a Terrible Game for a DC Game, the Only Good Character is King Shark, I like Deadshot but his Anger with Green Lantern is Doom, this is the Wrost Harley Quinn played by Tara Strong I didn’t like, Captain Boomerang is the Worst Character in the Game, Lex is more Enjoyable than Waller, the Graphics are a Major Downgrade to the Arkham Games especially when Knight was pure Perfection even if the Game is Overrated, the Side Characters are Boring, and is just Depressing and Not in a Good or Enjoyable Way when you Play or Watch, all I can Say is that MK1 and Spider-Man 2 are far better than this Abomination that I wish was Cancelled completely.

What's interesting is that a Suicide Squad game set during another Arkham Game could have been fun. Imagine while Arkham City is going on, Deathstroke is sent in leading a Suicide Squad team into it for some reason, like they need to get an analysist out or something. This can lead to a fun bit where they try and avoid Batman, which could be fun, and be a tactical game as you stumble across something bigger, like Vandall Savage helped Ras and Hugo set the city up, they need to track him down to a bunch of locations and do some fun missions, where characters could die, and stay dead. Really go to the lengths of using the team in a tactical way, a strategy game with consequences. Maybe, and hear me out, we have about twenty playable characters, each with powers and skills (from the OG game, Deathstroke, Calender Man maybe, Great White Shark, Prometheus and a bunch of jobbers). You select 6 people, and send them in, either a bunch of you playing as them, or you play as "Team Leader" and order them around. That could be incredible. When a person dies, they stay dead and you either replace him the next level or pick a whole new team. This allows replayability, and some alternate ways you could play with unique interactions as this goes. Through in another 5 DLC characters, and you're good.

@@FullFatVideos Ok, long reply, but I've thought about it more: There would be 4-5 missions and levels: The first mission I'd suggest would take place in Arkham City, where the Squad are looking for scientist Professor Ivo, who has been stranded there following a plane crash. They are also tasked with getting his research, which has fallen into the hands of the Black Mask, while Ivo is taken by Penguin/Two-Face/Riddler/whoever. The Squad find out that Ivo is working for Vandall Savage, who wants him to create the ultimate weapon in the form of an android. They also come in conflict with Batman. Ivo is extracted by Savage, and is taken away. Using his research, the Squad discover the component he needs is in an abandoned Lex-Corp warehouse in Metropolis (mission 2). They need to avoid Lex Luthors security, and get the device first. This leads to conflict with Luthor and Savages men. Superman gets wind of this, showing up as the Squad leave. The team fail to get the component, but discover that Savage needs Kryptonite, and has an arms dealer in Kandaq giving it to him. Mission 3 (Kandaq) is a stealth mission in a market to intercept the deal, leading to a mass shooting with a local gang leading to a fight with Black Adam. They intercept the deal, placing a tracker on the shipment of Kryptonite. They use that as a way to follow Savage to his lair, where Mission 4 (Legion of Doom lair) where the squad infiltrate the lair, fight Savage and his thugs, then Ivo's creation Amazo, who has copied all the squads powers that have been played so far (the more squad members die, the trickier Amazo is). The Squad destroy Amazo, Savage is buried, the day is saved, they are put back in jail. 2 post-credit scenes: Deathstroke getting a call from the Arkham Knight. Luthor finding the Legion of Doom base, figuring it could work for his own ends. Potential DLC pitches: Asylum: a prequel adding 1 new mission leader and 2 new characters that takes the Squad to Arkham Asylum, where they are looking to break out Maxie Zeus, who has important info on some big shot drug dealer gang who Waller wants to bring down. Again, Batman fight. They also run into Joker, who breaks out with the Squads accidental help, which leads to him getting captured (in time for the events of Arkham Asylum). Girls Get it Done: Female Squad members only, as the Squad are infiltrating Themyscira, looking for an escaped fugitive with vital secrets. This is mostly stealth, but with some cool fights, and ends with the reveal that the fugitive is Circe, leading to the Squad and Wonder Woman teaming up to face her. 1 new female mission leader and 2 new female characters are added. Militia: Deathstroke is broken out of prison by the Knight. The Squad are sent into Militia controlled Gotham. Their job is to kill Deathstroke, ensuring he doesn't tell anyone about the Squad. They need to search several Militia bases to find info on him, before tracking him down. They fight several villains, such as Firefly and Man-bat in the process. They track Deathstroke down, but he escapes them after a boss fight. Batman shortly captures Deathstroke, so the Squad need to break into GCPD and ensure everythings good. For whatever reason (maybe they erase his memories or something) he is still alive after the mission. A new mission leader is added, along with two new characters.

As for the roster: 5 players you can make "Team Leader": Deathstroke (good in normal fights, commands some loyalty, good at stealth) Prometheus (perks against superpower characters, of which there would be a few of, such as boss fights and heightened minions etc. Doesn't command much loyalty, unlikely to stay loyal to Waller's plan) Lady Shiva (perks for stealth missions and normal fights, command the most loyalty) Malcolm Merlyn (useful in stealth and fights, extra skill in strategy, good for solo mode) Clock King (able to slow down time and work strategy better across all missions, a good all rounder) Then 15 characters to choose from for the missions (I'm intentionally avoiding ones from the films until DLC, and I'm going to put some from the games though): Great White Shark (brawler, good in fights, decent at intelligence, lack of stealth) Blockbuster (lack of intelligence and stealth, good at fights and boss fights) Gizmo (intelligent, stealthy, not as good at boss fights, OK at regular fights)- alternate skin Thinker Cupid (stealth, good in combat, less good against superpowers, loyal) Knockout (strong, a good all rounder) Scandal Savage (story member after she is captured mission 1. Good at stealth and normal combat, might betray the team Mission 4 if mission leader is swapped out, as she forms a bond with them) Captain Boomerang (good in normal and heightened fights, unreliable in stealth, challenges authority) Tattooed Man (good in stealth and heightened fights, less good against normal goons with guns) Battleaxe (good against thugs and good in stealth, not loyal, or good against bosses) Killer Frost (good all rounder, needs to kill consistently to steal heat and stay alive) Ragdoll (best at stealth, decent in normal fights, doesn't die easily, generally shifty) Cavalier (decent in normal fights, mostly bad elsewhere, won't betray the Squad no matter what) Count Vertigo (likely to disrespect authority, bad in stealth, good as an assist in general combat) Plastique (good in regular fights, loyal, can set traps in stealth, often loud though, and not as good in boss fights) Condiment King (useless at everything, but having him increases stats of everyone else) Now for the DLC: Asylum: New leader option: Bloodsport (good at stealth, good in normal fights, not so much against bosses) 2 new members: Polka-Dot Man (good in fights, average at stealth, loyal) King Shark (big and strong, good against bosses and fights, bad at stealth, loyal) Girls Get It Done: New leader option: Kitana (she has your back, I'd advise not getting killed by her. Her sword traps the souls of her victims) New female squad members: Harley Quinn (decent at stealth, good in normal fights, unlikely to follow orders) Enchantress (good in boss fights, normal fights and stealth. Disloyal, often landing you with June Moone) Militia: New Leader option: Peacemaker (bad at stealth, increases loyalty, good in normal fights) New members: Kite Man (bad at stealth, moves quick, everyone just works better with him there) Ratcatcher (good for stealth, average at boss fights and normal fights, loyal)

“Herd Mentality”, the last resort cope for when something is legitimately bad. Even though there’s merits in that argument, that’s basically just a way to wedge the foot of the other camp’s “defense” into an otherwise ironclad position to have 🤷🏽‍♂️ When it’s POPULAR TO HATE SOMETHING when that something IS INARGUABLY BAD ON MULTIPLE LEVELS (writing, story, gameplay loop/lack of REAL variety outside of costumes and weapon + weapon skins, & an overwhelming amount of politicization w/ messaging pretty hostile to a vast majority of players THAT ISN’T SUBTLE)…it stop being “herd mentality” and starts being Objective Reality. Why did developers and publishers decide to make releasing bad products that were meant to release unfinished then made the post-hoc argument for “finishing them over years” a reality?

Arkham Knight: TOO MUCH TANK FIGHTING, HUSH WASTED, JASON REVEAL WAS SO OBVIOUS Arkham Knight 2 years later: Wow this masterpiece looks like a next gen game. Rocksteady the best developer for superhero games. Same goes for when someone is casted to play Batman in a movie and basically everything that has to do with superhero fans. @@inshal6420 I’m sure that’s true for the most part, but as someone who never once got why people hated Arkham Origins (best combat in the series & nice deep cuts) and really got to see just how coordinated the Gaming Press is with how they handled Arkham Knight’s reviews/news (even downplaying the PC Port, which was A TOTAL HACKJOB compared to other PC Port Hackjobs) that keyed everyone into how good reviews =/= actually good/great game (a majority of the time); Arkham Knight itself was pretty bloated with haphazard balancing around the clunky Batmobile driving, the bizarre overthinking of the Freeflow Combat system (that becomes comedically + inhumanly FAST; the tag team takedowns are the best addition tho), their foreshadowing of [SPOILERS] being [sPoIlErS] via marketing & the story itself was just heavyhanded + terrible (and so was the story), and their inability to really understand how to utilize Villains like Professor Pyg (appreciated the inclusion tho) or Deathstroke (THAT STUPID TANK BATTLE THO) while making Scarecrow kind of lame…since they made The Joker the “main antagonist” once again for…reasons(?) 🤷🏽‍♂️ What was I talking about initially…? Oh yeah…Herd Mentality! I credit the whole thing about people changing their minds on things they formally hated on Social Contagion that comes from how viewers will literally just side with Creators/Influencers they like and even just defend stuff they disagree with just because they’re that deep in that one-sides Parasocial Relationship. Then there’s how some creators can and will just pull at the barest of threads of topics just to have something to make a video on…and some people will watch it and go “WOW…I NEVER THOUGHT OF IT LIKE THAT!” despite it just being a contradictory (or even just overtly defensive of Popular Opinion). Sooooo many YTers are guilty of this as well as light/heavy plagiarism 🤔 People only seem to dismissively believe it’s “herd mentality” if it’s a convenient way to excuse overwhelming negative reception of something that’s popular (or just deeply unpopular)…which ultimately leads to the newly standard… “The Detractor(s) are [list of gaslighting terms ending in Ist/Phobic specifically meant to scare compliance into the people saying it] and aLt-RiGhT (something that does not mean anything anymore)!!!” …Or the Centrist/Right-Leaning… “They’re just clout-chasing & entitled cry-bullies who complain the loudest” (or something to that effect) …or just a video essay meant to perform chicanery around the Popular/Incendiary Opinion. Like this one…that isn’t really saying anything original and mostly just says some stuff that either everyone agrees with (completely or even just slightly) or simply only seeks to “be different” by doing the whole “it’s not 100% terrible” bit that purposely misses the point. Even though I don’t care which member is a survivor to brainiac normally, it makes more sense to be Batman in this game since they tied it into the Arkhamverse. We had years with the character and he could be our connection to this new justice league. Plus him dying to Superman would actually be emotional to the player since we know him (unlike Wonder Woman) and he’d be going out in a blaze of glory instead of like a chump. It’s clear the reason they had him be mind controlled is so it’d be easier for them to retcon his death since there’s already hints that the brainiac league wasn’t the real league

8:20 starro isn't low level, but I like the way he was taken out, felt extremely hard for team but doable unlike fighting people who are stated to be faster then time and batman. Everyone is made completely incompetent so tfx can win, so much to the point batman doesn't do anything batman would do such as take out tfx and in this case I'll them insted he knocks them out when he literally just offed a bunch of random nobody's a few mins before, to not attacking thier base of operations to a whole lot of other things such as finding ww and lane who were both hiding in very obvious locations such as the watchtower and daily planet. I honestly could make many a paragraphs on character acting completely out of character and incompetent for the plot to continue.

Arkham Origins despite being by WB was also great. Showing other dev team and cast could make a great installment.

True but it relied a little too much on Arkham City’s gameplay. It felt like a Arkham City remix.

I watched Gotham Paladin's video on tbe Deadshot retcon and apparently the game not only says the Deadshot we know is an imposter, but black Deadshot asks other world Lex if the Deadshot we know is from a different multiverse (Lex saying he didn't have anything to do with it), which is exactly what you asked for, but i still find it weird that white Deadshot has been running for 2 whole games with being completely fine he's in a different world or whatever the implications are.

And white Deadshot showed a remarkabl marksmaship, blackDeadshot have never did. White Deadshot rirocheted bullets of the guns of his men, and the tail rotor of a helicopter to get his traget which was 300 meter away.

Love the gaming content! Glad to see you address the core concept of this game, and brought up alternatives they could’ve done instead. The entire time I was watching the PR nightmare prior to launch, I just kept wondering why they would make a Suicide Squad game where they use the Justice League’s movement, instead of simply making a Justice League game. I’d like to think WB twisted Rocksteady’s arm after the Suicide Squad movies, but who knows. Just blows my mind we get a triple A game where we can play as characters like King Shark and Captain Boomerang, but have yet to have a great Flash, Green Lantern, or Superman focused game. Out of all the game’s flaws, the one I find most damning is the sole premise of the game.

@@Tonebaited123 Considering the player numbers and sales have already dropped off a cliff and Warner Bros wants it to last for 12 seasons, I'd be surprised if it wasn't killed off in like two months or less.

The idea could have potential. What if the Bat-fam actually enacted the contingencies, or different lanterns faced them and the fallen lantern corps. And your suicide squad suggestion sounds so fun. Also, why not killer frost?

Also, this is a pet peeve of mine - how do GL's powers work when he's brainwashed if 1) they're powered by an oath to smite evil, and 2) they're powered by his own will? I have never had a work where GL gets brainwashed where this is explained.

Amanda Waller Simulator 2024 sounds fun as hell. Maybe it could play a little like XCOM 2, where the story largely emerges from what happens to your guys during gameplay rather than scripted scenes.

You wanna know what else they could've done let the player choose which members to kill and which to spare kinda like a telltale game and if they did do this then they would have opened the door for multiple endings

It's always good to see a nuanced take that unpacks every aspect of a piece of media and goes over it in detail. Acknowledging the pros and cons while also being respectful. Instead of just slapping a "Rocksteady is dead" title on top and ranting about the problems. So much criticism no longer feels constructive or respectful. Instead of trying to help artists by pointing out faults, many critics simply yell about all the things they hate. Without offering any assistive feedback or criticism. I'm happy to see somebody actually critiquing without having to resort to buzzwords or narratives. Everything clearly comes from a place of love, and as an aspiring artist. It would be truly amazing to hear somebody pick apart anything I make in this same way. Even if it's as bad as this game.

I just finished it and the internet blew this out of proportion. Im getting Arkham Origins flashbacks lol. The story is pretty fun and I like the gameplay. 7/10. Its not horrible but not as well made as the Arkham Trilogy. Im annoyed that they are moving the Arkhamverse to a more “modern” vibe than the Arkham Trilogy. I liked how you couldn’t tell which time period the series took place in. It could honestly be anywhere from the 40s to 90s. Now with all the technology and stuff you can tell its modern times. They did a bit of this with Arkham Origins as well. Which is why to me the original Arkham Trilogy will always remain its own thing. Here is where I disagree with you. I never liked Arkham Knight’s map. I just can’t see it being a real city. It looks like a giant hot wheels track. I was hoping for a Gotham that looked like what we saw in the background of Arkham City. The BTAS inspired gothic city with unrealistically tall skyscrapers I think it would have made the gliding really fun as well. Metropolis towards the northern part of the island looks like the one from STAS. The interconnected buildings and how vertical it is looked really nice. It also looks really cool across the bay. Also it being part of the Arkhamverse is a positive for me. I hate how the storyline keeps getting reset back to normal. Sticking with their story instead of hitting the reset button again was pretty cool. Also both of the Deadshots are real there is no imposter. Listen to the audio logs 👀

We really lost the chance to get Batman Beyond in the Arkham Universe with Kevin Conroy voicing him as a mentor right? This will never not be sad. 😥

I should share something I've discussed with one of my online friends. If they wanted to do an evil Justice League story in the Arkhamverse instead of a Superman game..... it should've had Batman as the main character instead of the Suicide Squad. However other members of the Justice League would also be playable as you free (not kill) them from mind control. I think the game could be called.....Justice League: Doom. The game would be set about a year or two after Arkham Knight with Batman still in hiding after the Knightfall protocol. The story kicks off with Bruce watching the news about an alien invasion and the Justice League are mind controlled. (I would have Starro or Despero as the main villain since I don't think mind control is fitting for Brainiac.) Bruce realizes he needs to do something since the entire world in danger and sneaks into Metropolis to investigate the situation. He'll gather info on how to combat the Justice League's powers so he can free them one at a time so they can help end the alien invasion. The League would see Batman as a valuable ally after freeing them, but he's hesitant to open up since he needs to remain in the shadows so the world doesn't know he's alive. In the finale, Batman and the now freed Justice League works together to take down either Starro or Despero and saves the world. The League would then end offer Bruce to join the Justice League as they could use someone who's smart enough to even plan for whenever the League goes rogue. Batman is hesitant at first, but accepts the offer on the condition his presence on the League is a secret so criminals still think Bruce Wayne is dead. It would basically be a nice ending for Batman even though it's not a Batman game and without invalidating the Arkham games.

I've also been thinking of something similar. Actually batman could be used for intelligence gathering as a covert opps (like in young justice) in this universe. It's win win. Certainly better than the character assassination garbage we got. It doesn't matter now they burned bridges.

The thing i hate most about this failure is the inevitable layoffs that will happen in the studio. I feel that the developers did what they thought was right with a game they were forced to make. It wasn't a great decision though.

It is implied that the old version of deadshot was an alternate world version of Floyd Lawton, but it is kind of left up in the air. We will probably learn more about the other deadshot in season 3.

they could have avoided needing to justify it so hard if they just switched him out for Bloodsport (A way cooler character anyway).

Without doubt the most positive review I’ve seen for this game, and even then the final note is it’s not worth £70, wait for a discount. I do wonder why your more positive than some other people who have covered it and I’m definitely going with the fact you played this with friends, showing why live service games, when they hit right are the powerhouses they become, and when they fall short they can still be fun for a short time and then you just move on. This game before release was very open on what it had to offer, which is why a lot of regular player reviews seem to be more positive, those who wanted this sort of game got what they were after, at least when you look at steam reviews. The thing is, sales numbers do not look good, because the rest of us knew what this game was and didn’t buy, only paying attention to online video reviews and keeping our money for other games. It seems for many we’ve finally learned, Anthem and Avengers and I guess Gotham knights was hype with huge disappointment, and like old dogs finally learning new tricks we’ve learned to ignore the hype, know what we would be getting and skip. I can’t imagine this game will be able to bring in more players than what it has now, not without a big discount and some positive word of mouth, so I’ll be surprised if it’s legacy is anything other than Batman getting executed on a bench and the larger gaming audience keeping their money to play anything else.

I'm sorry but this game deserves to fail. It adds nothing to bring new players in, it pisses all over the Arkhamverse in such a disrespectful way that I legit can't believe someone didn't read the script and stop them. Its needlessly tacked on to a story that was already beautifully told and subtracts from everything it did well. Its a live service game that finishes with a copy paste boss fight designed to strip people of their money not just now but in the future too. And this is only judging the game for what it is. When you think about the potential this had... Batman emerging from the darkness as a public hero, learning to hope again in the darkest period of his life by meeting the JL... Man. Its no wonder people are disappointed.

Great video but there is a good reason that Ivy is there set up in Arkham Knight though it didn’t have to be included since it seems pointless

To address your take regarding the use of guns. It wasn't it at all. The SS are so diverse that i could form 2 teams of 6 that don't use guns. The movies barely scratch the surface. Also, it is weak from a gameplay perspective in a comic book universe. Guns, in a world where Killer Frost, Diablo, Constantine, Enchantress etc could've been used. Your point made 0 sense.

I always believe that Suicide Squad game should be made like XCOM. Ton of supervillain to recruit start from D grade villain like Condiment King or Kiteman. Unforgiving difficulty, some of them would die in the mission. At higher level you get to recruit more A grade supervillain like Deathstroke, Parasite or Haley Quinn.

Hell, if you offer mission you could let the player capture villains in optional quests. Giving the player the option to risk the lives of lesser villians to obtain more useful ones.

I think we all wanted "Batman: Tower of Babel" where the flashback missions are how he meets the league and Diana is the new Alternate playable character. I also think they should have brought Paul Dini back to handle the Rocksteady universe games.

What hurts me the most is just the inklings of a genuinely good game at some point in development but seemed to just derail at some point

First off: sorry I missed this until your recent "future of channel" video. Seriously, we don't always (or even often) agree, but I appreciate a number of your criticisms and generally enjoy the videos. As for this game, well, I haven't played it. It looked like it could be pretty fun, especially if you have a good group of people together, but I wasn't too eager to play it. Still might, but the announcement of the 1st DLC and information about the story has me disappointed. I'd hoped, at the least, that the game could deliver a decently solid solo(ish) campaign, like the Avengers & Gotham Knights games did (I rather enjoyed both, and wasted far too much time on each, especially Avengers), but it sounds like it underdelivers on that front and relies too heavily on that "live service" aspect to even get to a reasonable end (Avengers may have left some threads hanging, but it generally wrapped up well enough pre-updates). The gunplay aspect was a bit disappointing, but I was fine with it, and I was even okay with the idea the game would focus on a 4-member squad (even if I think there should've been more available, or at least included as NPCs)*, but the fact their first new playable character post-release will be an alt-Joker really ruins it for me: they had so many options (Black Adam, Eobard Thawne, Bronze Tiger, and Killer Frost all come to mind as interesting options, though they could've just given us various Flash rogues or leaned into the lineup from either live-action movie). The multiverse aspect is horrendous, I hate it so much. *The idea mentioned in this video is great. A MUA/XML-style game would work well, or even an X-COM/Midnight Sons-style game (seriously, I had never expected the latter game to be so good). Even a Guardians of the Galaxy-style game where you play as a specific member of the squad and have some squad-interaction mechanics could've been good. This definitely didn't need to be an Arkham game, and (from what I've heard) seems to be less of one than GK was, which is kinda sad. I wish we had seen a better use of that universe, even a better shared universe with Superman/Green Lantern/Flash/Wonder Woman/even Green Arrow games, or a proper Justice League game (again, even MUA-style would be perfect).

I'm still not fully convinced that this game was going to be part of the Arkham verse until part way through development. Seeing the cutscenes and the overall tone of the game makes me believe this was supposed to be its own thing until someone stepped up and told them to make it another Arkham game. Everything about this game just makes it really hard for me to believe that they planned to make it a continuation of the Arkham games from the jump. Edit: I'd even go as far as to say that RS never wanted to go past Knight until someone forced them to, but that may be me just coping.

9:40, This could have been a perfect way to use the squad, wether multiplayer or not. 10:18, Unfortunately, the current trend of live service multiplayer/co-op game would mean it would probably never be implemented. On an unrelated note, it would be interesting to here your takes on Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends (especially the former), two superhero games made in an era before games like Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham and Insomniac’s Spiderman. 11:28, 43:19, On the gameplay side, perhaps this game’s biggest comparisons can be made to Square Enix’s Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy. While Avengers plays more like online shooters like Ovewatch and Star-Lord is the only playable character in Guardians while he coordinates the other members, this game might the best in terms of combat and traversal mechanic ideas (or at least in terms of making them satisfying to use, which with the online shooter model, where enemies feel can sometimes like bullet sponges the player mindlessly waits to die, watching numbers fly from their bodies as they hold a button before moving onto the next, with very little else in terms of engagement to be found). 20:17, In theory, this could have been an awesome moment where Harley developed beyond her Arkham characterization on screen, not necessarily in her efforts to beat Batman, but to show she was more than what the Joker made her and could be more than what others, even Batman, thought of her (admittedly, a storyline used for her film counterpart, but potentially more compelling as was previously grieving his death, not mourning their breakup like in the films). Hypothetically, if some of the League were saved from Braniac or if Batman was the only League member not corrupted instead of Wonder Woman, seeing the two reunite and be forced to work together would have been far more satisfying than Harley hypocritically mocking Batman for causing others pain when she canonically helped Joker slaughter hundreds, even children, without remorse. And that’s not say Harley countering Batman’s degrading insults with her own couldn’t have worked to show her growth or even her being the one to kill him, but having it be after somehow beating him by shooting a hallucination of him he could’ve easily used to dispatch the entire group again made it feel unearned (like most of the main battles where the Squad just shoots the League to death). 34:08, This could perhaps have been the best alternate idea for this game (the only real downside would be that the League being so powerful would strain credulity on why they wouldn’t just squash him the moment they were corrupted or how he’d be able to evade any them, especially Barry or Clark).

As for your idea for what a Suicide Squad game should be I'm not sure the concept of permadeath for an action game would really work. Not because of the live service thing but the only games I know that use permadeath are strategy titles like Fire Emblem and X-COM.

I started playing Arkham Asylum for the first time yesterday. It's proving really enjoyable. I can almost forget about my knowledge of this thing's story.

Captain Boomerang should have only used boomerangs. King Shark should have been a melee primary. Harley should have been a mix of revolver and Hammer/baseball bat/ect. Deadshot is fine. I'm not defending the game, I hate it, it shouldn't have ever been a thought. I am saying that if they wanted to use this roster of the SS, then use them right.

I'm surprised you were this kind to the writing. It's one of those stories where everything is really contrived and falls apart when think about it for a second.

It’s kind of fascinating that this game’s premise is that the Suicide Squad, people forced by a scheming presence to do actions against their will, are sent to kill a Justice League who have been forced by a scheming presence to commit actions against their will, and the writers completely missed this parallel.

All the arkham games are beautiful the arkham asylum jingle almost made me cry jezuz what memories .

The game does confirm that the White Deadhshot is from Earth-2. Which still brings up some questions.

I myself don't have the money for it. Nor the time as of right now. But for a while I was hyped for it. But just like anything. If I don't see it within a month constantly I'm forgetting it. So I dis until it released. I had mix feelings about it until I hear what's going on in the game. And I even watch the cutscenes and some of the game play. With that any mixed emotions I had were gone. I couldn't spend so many hours into it. I already did it with Elden Ring and I basically stopped socializing for far too long. About 200 hours

I do have to say it is implied that the one of the Deadshots is from another universe somehow - Heavily implied to the City one, as this one retired when his daughter was born. (Found through the ARGUS tapes)

Honestly just can't take the premise of the game seriously. It just too big of a suspension of disbelief to believe they could take on the Justice league. Hearing about speed force boomerangs, that just creating more problems to solver an answer we didn't need. Same applies to the Avengers game. As soon as I saw Thor's hammer bounce off a riot shield, I knew we weren't getting an authentic experience with the characters. The Batman, spiderman, Deadpool and a lot of the X-men games always felt like that gave you the authentic characters to play as.

I would have loved an xcom style suicide squad game where you recruite members, have them be disloyal and you have the choice to kill them for a loyalty boost but at the risk of loosing that character forever, hell they could still keep it as an alien invasion

What sucks the most about this is that not only did we not get a Superman or Justice League game instead, but we didnt even get a good Suicide Squad game. A Suicide Squad game SHOULD have been fun. What a fumble.

when you realize they could have literally done this by just keeping batman alive since his whole thing is making plans for how to stop the justice league.

The one bit that gets me is that it's Arkhamverse. If this wasn't Arkhamverse I would have no problems with the storyline. It sounds cool as hell, it just gets soured as soon as anything arkham appears. I would love to pretend it's not Arkham because I know that then I would be enjoying it, but Rocksteady seem intent on forcing it upon us to be Arkhamverse. Ivy, Deadshot, Batman. All their lackadaisical attempts to explain away all the returning and dead characters just ruins the 4 Arkham games. Like what was the point of the emotional death of Joker if he's just gonna return. Yeah he's from another universe but who cares? It's still the Joker, being the Joker doing Joker things.

Actually I dig The Flash’s outfit here. Granted, I’m not always a fan of armored Flash. But I like this armor better than Ezra Miller’s JL movie armor.

For me, what would've been a much better game (impressive feat, I know) is to have it be a Batman game, but instead of killing the Justice League, Batman is trying to save them. Have a similar setup (Brainiac abducts and brainwashes the league), but have Batman not be a part of the league yet. He is studying the league and have him have an amiable but closed relationship with Superman, where Clark is encouraging him to join, but Bruce says no. So when the League get captured, have Waller declare them a public menace and gets members of the Suicide Squad (but ones that are equipped to handle them, like Deathstroke, Bloodsport, Captian Cold, Cheetah etc) with orders to kill them. Batman, however, wants to save them, and has to not only finalize ways to neutralize the league but also save them. Also have most battles be two parters: one for neutralizing one of the League members and the other for stopping the SS member that is assigned to kill the specific League member (even have a part after Batman stops each SS member, he switches the bomb controls in their head to himself so Waller can't just kill them). One interesting idea I had was for the Green Lantern fight is for Batman to introduce Fear Toxin in order to sap Green Lantern of his powers, but then help him regain control of himself with his willpower to overcome what Brainiac did to him. Also have it that every League member Batman rescues will help in some ways from then on in the story. You could ultimately have the last fight with Brainiac, where all the League members and Batman fight him, but have Batman make the ultimate sacrifice to stop Brainiac, giving a fitting end to the Arkham Batman. Just some ideas I had, which I feel are far FAR better than what we got (again, pretty high bar, right?).

I thought this game should've been the Gotham knights story. Barbara and Tim are doing their own thing dick is in bloodhaven jl is corrupted. They use Batman's plans to take them out. They find Jason because he has the tech and underworld connections to make the devices. Redemption arc for team because Batman still believes in him still after all he's done. They save the jl and Batman's influence still lives on through the 4 of them

Fun fact all the batman gadgets in the scare sequence can't kill you so it's pointless trying to avoid them

This game would be a million times better in story if it was unconnected from the Arkham games. Harley without the baggage of her previous appearances, Deadshot without having to justify any changes, a Joker that doesn't just look like a poor successor to the iconic Hamill version, it would have a lot less riding on its back. That said, I would love to see an alternative plot, but so many issues and hate would be resolved if it did not try and build off of such a loved and nostalgic game series.

I haven’t played Suicide Squad myself. But from this video, it reads like the story was actively fighting its association with the Arkham games. If they weren’t confined by that continuity they could be free to do whatever

It would make a lot more sense to have killer frost than lady freeze. She has been in the suicide squad in the past in animated movies like hell to pay and assault on Arkham

I haven’t played this game so can’t speak to the mechanics and gameplay. But from the clips I have seen it appears like the plot is complete ass but the character interactions between the squad seems like it is definitely good

What if in the final season the suicide sqaud die so the justice league can live. Only way to fix it can be the stakes rlly

I wish we had a hunter Zoloman or a thawne to play as, could perfectly pair with the flash

Every single member of the justice league would one tap the suicide squad... We even see this happen with Batman and Wonderwoman... And Flash literally speed blitzed Luthor who had the whole squad at their mercy.... None of this makes sense! At least in the injustice series the character got a serum that made them superhuman so they could dance with people like superman or wonder woman

Your idea of a Suicide Squad game actually sounds awesome. Like an xcom style, and you have to manage character rebelliousness, weighing their utility vs chance of acting rogue. Geez, the potential there. Maybe that can still happen, who knows

Wait, is the Batman that die our Batman from the Arkham game series? Or is he from another universe?

People’s problem with all the SC members just using guns is that it robes them from having unique move sets. Like in the Arkham games, almost every character has a unique moveset and fighting style to them. It feels very ignorant of you to say “oh well bats don’t use grappling hooks”. Because that is not what people are complaining about. When people complain about Boomerang using guns, it’s because it robbed him of a cool moveset that could’ve integrated creative uses of multiple boomerang’s and his speed force.

Coop easily could have them die, just like in Left 4 Dead making it harder for remaining team members and Waller deploying reinforcements for ai team or dead players after a while they have to hold out. It shouldnt end be open world and have chapters like Left 4 Dead.

This deadshot is the fake one, what gives it away is that he only hits some point blank shots in the game

There are so many random and unexplained changes. The only way this is connected to the Arkham-verse is if we'll be going to it in the future other than that, they just used it as a buzzword to attract hype and attention.

Shame nobody really speaking of characters we haven’t seen anywhere on screen, everyone just repeats characters from suicide squad movies but no mention of characters from comic books like air wave or blockbuster , wild dog, silver banshee, sledge, lashina and knockout to name a few all from different series. Just think would be interesting to have the light shined on characters who haven’t left the comic book verse yet

Shame WB CEOs pushed Rocksteady to make this and not a Superman game, or even another Batman using contingency protocols to save JL. sSquad was a major suckfest

WB didn't force them. Rocksteady was making an original IP multi-player live service looter shooter. So it's in them.

It’s sad how many games and studios, not even just Rocksteady, are being completely and totally squandered because the publishers or corporations are betting EVERYTHING on live services on the vain hope they’ll be the one lucky winner that becomes the next Destiny or Fortnite. Eventually when these live service “games” fail or underperform, they pull the plug on the servers and all that time, effort, and money that the audiences and developers put into it is flushed down the drain.

Batman : Kill the Justice League would’ve had a more emotional impact

I honestly thought the game looked like a ton of fun. The always online requirement however is what killed it for me. I was hoping it would be DC's equivalent of Borderlands but instead it was just a half assed Destiny clone. And don't even get me started on that "Joker" dlc

There is no more ArkhamVerse, because there is no more real Rocksteady. Company name is only worth as much as people behind the name. This new game is not in my head-canon.

I feel like now is the best time to say... Origins is possibly the best arkham game, WB Montreal pulled off the impossible with what they were given, and a sequel is sounding very good rn.

Arkhamverse should end. For me, without Conroy Bats interacting with the now existing League, what's the point!? And nobody wants Arkham Bats recasted. So just set future games in new universes, let this new Rocksteady team build their own franchise rather than tarnish the previous teams universe!!
