X-Men: First Class Is The Best X-Men Movie Ever

X-Men: First Class Is The Best X-Men Movie Ever... and the Greatest Superhero Prequel Ever. It takes everything that worked in the original trilogy but isn't afraid to break new ground and change the dynamics of established relationships between the characters. Here, we explore the film in detail.

    Yeah! The best Hero-Villain dynamic in any story is when the two parties start out as friends, but eventually come to blows as a result of differing perspectives on a particular issue. It isn't a conflict of clear cut Good vs. Evil, but of two people whose opposing arguments have merit. Complexity and tragedy.

    Magneto is a far cry from a villain. He is the anti-hero. Calling Magneto a villain would be like calling Wolverine a villain. Neither are but their tragic backstories have shaped their views of the world, rightfully so. Professor X has been afforded his black and white moral line, because he has been very privileged. It is easy to judge the anti-hero harshly when you've not had to live in their world.

    I've yet to see anyone comment on the historical relevance of this particular line. Yes it's an EXCELLENT line with an amazing delivery BUT IT ALSO is a line most Jewish people use when referring to the holocaust in general. So to have this survivor of the camps to say it, especially in response to the 'they were just following orders' line is an excellent choice on multiple levels.

    I’ve always said this. First Class is so severely underrated. First movie that finally let go of Wolverine’s dependency and showed off that there are other mutants and interesting characters. Heck, the majority of people wouldn’t mind if James and Michael joined the MCU as Charles and Erik again.

    Yeah but it doesn't look like Argentina at all. That sequence, as good as it is, is somewhat famous in Argentina because the city it takes place in, Villa Gesell, has cero mountains in it in real life. It's actually a beach destination. My guess is the people working on the movie thought Gesell sounded kind of German and since Josef Mengele was hiding in Bariloche and Bariloche has mountains, well let's put all of those things together. The one thing I do love about the sequence though is the music. The gave the Magneto theme a twist and musicalized the sequence with a Creole guitar version.

    The problem is that Magneto *is* a Nazi, just as the men that he is hunting, except that his ubermenchen are “mutants” instead of Aryans. His only problem with Shaw was that he killed his mother, and shortly his “Mutants Only” attitude would have made her as disposable as Rebecca Romijn’s Raven in Last Stand after being hit with the mutant power-cancelling darts.

  • @clayxros576

    @clayxros576

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Egilhelmson @Egilhelmson Excuse me what? Ok, so let's go over all the problems with the claims you just made. Firstly, Magneto ain't a Nazi. Though he does attack the outside world based on his ideology, he always attacks officials of the government he is targeting. Who his nation is at war with. He attacks enemy mutants the same as humans as well, not taking steps to broad strokes exterminate humans. Second, and this is a big one, mutants ARE basically a different race than humans. And are without question upgraded, ergo superior to anyone paying attention. Him claiming mutants are the evolutionary step forward, in their world, actually bears a fair amount of proof and his world often puts a lot of effort into trying to either enslave or exterminate them. Attacks against those that target your species and nation can easily just be seen as war battles. Third , you remember that he lived in a CONCENTRATION CAMP?! Shaw killing his mom was the last straw, not his entire motivation. Him and his mom had been suffering through that mistreatment, and he suffered through Shaw's grooming after that while watching his friends and fellows die. There is a lot of reasons for Magneto to want to hunt Nazis, and I'd wager he would still be hunting them after he got Shaw if he didn't have a fledgling Mutant nation to deal with. Sincerely I'm not quite sure where your arguments are coming from co sidering all we know about this story, its characters and the universe. It's a seriously bad take.

While I don't think it's tarnished his reputation that he's been in so many stinkers (the later X-men movies, the Alien-series and that awful Assassin's Creed movie), since he's always been seen as the best part of those movies, it can't have done him any favours either. Maybe I'm in the minority on this, I actually feel like Fassbender would kind of be too obvious of a choice. I mean, I've never been a big James Bond aficianado, though I have seen every Daniel Craig entry except Quantum Of Solace (come to think of it I wish I could not have seen Spectre). I feel like my memory is at the time of the last switch over, Craig was far from the first choice on many peoples' minds, but maybe I'm getting that totally wrong. But all in all I think he's done a terrific job, when he had something good to work with. Part of what made him intriguing is he wasn't a totally obvious fit. Then again, I also think that Simon Quarterman (Lee Sizemore on "Westworld") would make a really interesting pick for whenever they go onto a new Doctor on Doctor Who, I've been saying this for months and I've literally not had a single person say they agree with me lol

    Magneto's powers are so f'ing cool, all of these movies have that one big "Magneto doing insane shit with this powers" scene and they were all amazing. But I think that both the big moments in this movie take that cool factor and add emotional stuff into it, which made it better. I'm sad all the time when I think of how later directors squandered the cast and potential of these characters for cheap plots that didn't make sense and way too much JLaw.

    Truth. Compare the relative simplicity of Magneto turning a German luger on one of his oppressors in First Class to the later big scenes in later movies. It's never really shown in my viewings, the story was surprisingly good and well paced. The cinematography I've thought was grounded but breathtaking and often (like the coin scenes) beautifully poetic, and with a soundtrack that enhances the experience as much as the visuals. You know it's good when after the something-eth viewing the hairs still stand up on your neck. So, somebody's got to ask... why did nobody get these guys for Star Wars? In terms of capturing the world and characters of X-Men and translating it to the screen in to an entertaining blockbuster with plenty of heart and thrills First Class does it better than anyone else. Logan, to me at least, never felt like an adaption of X-Men outside of using Wolverine and Professor X, it reminded me more of an old Western or even The Last of Us, but that doesn't change the fact that it's perfectly acted, wonderfully written, perfectly structured, and surprisingly heartfelt bit of cinema.

    The cut you made between Magneto throwing the coin at the drawing of Shaw and putting it through his head was excellent! Looked like it came straight from the film Also it sounded like a Call of Duty hitmark 😂

    If y’all want another Matthew Vaughn film to watch, I can never recommend enough his directorial debut Layer Cake. A gangster film starring Daniel Craig, Colm Meaney, Tom Hardy, Sienna Miller, and Michael Gambon. It is one of the smartest, my quotable, and perfectly written and shot movies ever.

    This movie does not get enough love. I love that 60’s vibe the director brought to the movie. The scene with Magneto dealing with ex-Nazis was incredible. It made you forget that Magneto is the bad guy. What I didn’t like about the sequel is that the Mystique character was brought to the forefront and the story revolved around the Mystique character.

    I saw X Men First Class in theaters back when I was only 7. Compared to the other shit I watched as a 7 year old, this movie was on the same dramatic level to me as Schindler’s List.

    I liked how much this movie specifically relied on their various powers. I've seen far too many superhero movies that add the whole power training montage but then the big battle ends up in a punch-out. Usually including a very contrived plot as to why they can't use their powers, because the screenwriters know the fight would be over in seconds otherwise.
